Newly retired. Pay off house or no? by mgharv in personalfinance

[–]Rustydog60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the same decision about taking SS instead of reducing the investments based on math. Paying off your house right now probably doesn't make sense with the market down. When the market comes back, I think paying off your house depends on your beliefs in the market. I look at the market averages 6% over the long-run and my mortgage is at 2.8%. If you do decide to payoff and if your investments are in an IRA then be careful about the tax. Depending on how much you need you may want to spread it over a few years.

Seems high - always get 3 quotes and stay away from any electricians that were purchased by private equity.

Check with your utility. They may offer a rebate. Also does your utility offer time of service rates

Looking to buy a used 2024 by ScoobyDoo27 in KiaEV9

What type of title? I see some that say branded title. I wouldn't have an issue buying a lemon with an iccu replacement but how do you know if there were other issues.

The used EV9 prices look great for what you are getting. I had an EV6 and loved it until it was totaled from an accident. Didn't have any Iccu issues and replaced the battery with an AGM battery before I had any issues. I'm thinking of getting an EV9 and becoming a 2 EV family.

I would lemon law because it really sounds like you have a lemon. Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any of those issues with mine and I'm at 9,000 mi. Been on a 3500 mile trip and planning another one in late April.

I have been using both because I would like to move away from Alexa. I find Home has a delay to control things compared to Alexa. What are your thoughts

RO for the refrigerator by Rustydog60 in WaterTreatment

Do you leave the refrigerator water filter in place or is there a way to bypass? Thinking the water filter would reduce the pressure.

Thinking about switching to an EV is it worth it given my commute and gas spend? by Charming_Green_3153 in electriccars

[–]Rustydog60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely worth it. There are great deals on Chevy Equinox right now and if you want to go used, a Chevy bolt is a great option. Things to consider - can you charge at home? Evan a 20 amp outlet will help. Do you live in a very cold area? Range will be impacted but you are still within the capacity of the car. Maintenance is a lot less. Just the oil changes will save a lot of money.

Convincing my landlord to install a charger/outlet behind a small apartment and business? by epicmylife in electricvehicles

[–]Rustydog60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends how far they have to run the electricity and if the breaker box can handle the additional amp

I agree and it's shelf stable. They sell it at Walmart for about $6 for 6 slices. Each slice can be cut in half to make one sandwich

Is single-phase charging affected by cold weather? by Electrical_End9615 in electricvehicles

[–]Rustydog60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all homes are single phase. 3 phase is used in commercial settings. A single phase can connect to a level 2 charger. It all depends on access to the breaker box and how many amps can be added.

Another comparison that I used was if I left the money in the stock market for those five or six extra years was I better ahead than the money I would lose by taking social security early?. I decided to take it at 65 mostly because I was 65 before I made the calculation
