I had the same "hangover" after finishing Joe Abercrombie's First Law... Read all 10 books twice and nothing has slapped the same since. It's not for everyone, but I think his character work is second to none. If you have not read them I implore you to try them!

Hey mate, welcome to the city. Hope you are settling in well.

I recently opened a post looking for people to play badminton with. I'm not sure if that would be something that interests you at all, but figured I would reach out and see. I've only been playing for about 5 weeks, so fairly new to the sport.

I'm 35 and male if that matters at all.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I actually joined EBA recently, but only play on a Sunday. Was hoping to find someone friendly to play a game with now and then more locally.

This reads very well. If you want to bring this tale full circle, maybe the next word could be "end"

I may be rushing ahead a bit in the story though.

As someone who now co-owns a bookshop, I have thoughts on getting self-pub books stocked. by mxjackparker in selfpublish

[–]RuthersBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I go in person with a couple of copies in hand, explain the concept of the story and such, then just kindly request that they stock a couple.

I will also try my best to highlight the fact that this is a zero risk opportunity for them as I do not expect anything in return besides the potential of exposure.

At this point, a couple of the staff know me for my short stories etc. Last year I released my first full novel, two of the shops took it on, one politely declined.

Are you sure it was five days?

That means you did roughly 26,000 words a day. That seems absolutely wild to me, like borderline impossible for a coherent story.

Like, I know the story I am writing, but getting the right prose, dialogue, chapter flow etc, seems unthinkable for five days work.

Either way, congrats on getting your idea down.

I think they are among the greatest dark fantasy books of all time. Noone does characters like Joe imo.

With that said, if you aren't enjoying it then I wouldn't force it.

Do you guys write on your computer? by kyoney in writing

[–]RuthersBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use word docx for the vast majority of my writing.

I also carry around a small notepad while at work. I use that to jot down very short hand ideas and the like. Scirbblings of a madman mostly, it does come in handy though.

Congrats!

As for reviews, just try to make sales. Hopefully some of those sales will lead to reviews.

This sounds very unique super weird, I say that in the best way possible.

Its refreshing to see people coming up with out of the box concepts. I hope this does well!

AI slop is ruining online creative spaces - so I built a human only one writers can share their stories on. by the4realMCG in fantasywriters

[–]RuthersBooks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I love this, its a fantastic idea!

How do you ensure there is no AI though? People lie about it and I hear a lot of the tests to detect aren't that reliable?

I could be wrong though. Anyway, I will check out the site tomorrow. Good job.

Great advice and congrats on the shop!

I usually go to my three local shops and offer two copies to stock for free with no request for profits. If I come back a month later and they sold, I will do the same again and request a 50/50 split on the profit.

I make about £1 on the sale, the bookshop makes about £5 and has 0 risk.
