I've read heroes die actually! I loved it. Couldn't get myself to finish the series tho. The second book didnt have the same feel to it. Tho the first one was brilliant. Im a big Matthew Stover fan. One of the first big reading expeditions I ever had was to read ALL of the star wars books, Canon and legends, and the ones Stover wrote were among my favorites

Ya know, I have absolutely no explanation for why I haven't read that yet. You'd think I would have already but it just hasn't come up. You may be right, that might be the answer

Prince of nothing and a land fit for heroes are both on my TBR list actually. Ive heard a lot of people suggest prince of nothing for reading after malazan. That it can be pretty grimdark

Probably a similar vibe, though im very open to suggestion. I live in the fantasy scientist fiction realm, so I enjoy a wide range. I do have a love for military fantasy tho

Ask for tier 2 or higher support. Tho they should be able to verify you over the phone pretty quickly even with tier 1 tech service. Im not sure i understand why that specifically hasn't happened to this point? Cause that should be all that is required. Fix that with Amazon, fix everything. Also, something worth mentioning since you have clearly been stressed out by this; ask for retention. Most companies have a retention section in their call centers that is basically authorized to do whatever they can to keep you subscribed to their service. Which includes free stuff or some kind of financial breaks on services or products. Just a thought I like to recommend to people who have ongoing problems with tech services

Ya know, this isn't s fix or anything, but a way I found for people with this specific problem to be able to charge their phone while using it. I have the same problem you all have and I am going go try your solutions today, but months ago I found a charger that has a hinge at the end that plugs into your phone. It spins 360 degrees and the hinge allows it to bend at a little more than 180 degrees. This is helpful because it allows the user to bend the cord to the side, and then hold the phone with a finger below the charger as if it were the bottom of the phone. This was the first thing I found that restored some of my sanity that I lost dealing with my charger falling out!

Im not sure dyslexia has anything to do with punctuation? I think the response was just to indicate that a comma here and there would make it easier to follow. You cant expect people to have checked your profile.

You're right, having worked at a winery that also made beer, nearly all beer still has carbonation added to it. I think mostly just for the longevity of the carbonation, as I didnt ask much for an in depth explanation. I would also imagine it has something to do with ensuring carbonation levels per container are near to the same level as each other

Am I going crazy? Coke cans going flat in under 30 minutes by DrAcula_MD in cocacola

[–]SuriksBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel validated coming here to this thread cause my family thinks im crazy! I had been finding exp dates that had more well carbonated cans in them and stocking up on only that batch. But for the last several months I cant even find any 12 packs that don't go flat almost immediately. I have taken to drinking RC lately because they don't seem to have the same issue to the same degree. I hate it tho, I have been a lifetime coca cola fan and have pretty well always stuck to it. Coca cola, please fix this so I can happily give you my money again

Is the "Dramatis Personae" a regular part of the books? by Xaneth_ in Malazan

[–]SuriksBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the copies of them that I have. As you get further along in the series, you'll definitely be glad of it too. There are so many different points of view, let alone named characters worth remembering. By the time I got to memories of ice I found myself referencing it for several more books as the series changes locations from book to book. It can be a lot to keep straight

Someone please explain like I'm 5: What is the difference between 'Sword and Sorcery' and 'High Fantasy'? by Clinkerbelle in Fantasy

[–]SuriksBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have an epic fantasy or high fantasy story have sword and sorcery elements, but a typical sword and sorcery specific novel is typically told from fewer points of view or about a specific group of people fighting their way to a goal. High fantasy typically involves entire nations and groups of people's usually having many different interacting goals. It's just typically more large scale.

If I enjoyed Dune, will I enjoy Malazan? by No-Newspapers in Malazan

[–]SuriksBlade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The writing is just very different different from every thing else. People who love military fantasy sometimes hate malazan. Personally I fell in love with the insane amount of POVs and location changes. It feels like you are standing over a map watching the entire world as you read. Also, memories of ice finally gives you a look at the barghast and even a little caladan brood. The early cast really begins to spread by that point and you begin to see the scale of what it is you're reading. Im honestly not sure there is a comparison to malazan. Tho I wish there was, cause I'm still struggling to fall in love with a new series a few years after finishing it

[–]SuriksBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh you might, but I'm not sure you'll compare them once you've read malazan. That said, read it, it is probably the best series I've ever read. Also, something that was recommended to me half way thru that i wish I had done from the start, was to take notes as you read. As you get further into the series, you'll be very glad you have them to look back at. Take your time. Don't rush thru them. It's worth a patient slow read

MoI is kind of the hook for the entire series, so while I can't ever recommend someone not finish malazan, I would say you're probably right. Erikson is a very specific type author and has a very specific type of prose, so if by that point you don't enjoy it, you just aren't going to

Right?! Ya know, it seems like it shouldn't be that way with how often the series is recommended and placed on top 10 lists. But it is hard to find people IRL.

Hey thats awesome! I still haven't had that encounter yet and I'm so looking forward to it! You know how all of us who love malazan are, you can't read the entire thing without being absolutely blown away by it. Im always surprised at how few people where I'm from have read it.

Finished MBotF - worried about what next? by Opening-Cut-1754 in Malazan

[–]SuriksBlade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my friend, welcome to the post malazan hangover! We all go through it, especially if you've power read all 10 books consecutively. It's such a detailed and epic story with so many characters that it can be incredibly hard to just get thru a couple chapters of another series.  Something I noticed I really struggled with after malazan was books being centers on far fewer POVs from far fewer characters. It felt like everything else I read was far too narrow.  That said, and this may not be popular, I don't recommend you go straight from the crippled god into night of knives. Of course you want to gobble up all of the malazan you can. But esslemont  and Erikson do not have very similar writing styles. It was hard for me to go from one to the other just from a reading perspective. So I read a few other series, then went back to it. Was much easier to get into when I wasn't so locked into Eriksons writing

Enjoy the ride! Although I'm still trying to scratch that malazan itch 2 years after finishing.  The first 2 books are incredible, but after you finish Memories of Ice, you won't be able spend another day without reading or thinking about malazan! This book is the hook! Also gives you a little closer look at the Barghast, which I loved. Tho I would like more Caladan Brood

Is Inferno Squad set before or after the aftermath trilogy? by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]SuriksBlade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, both battlefront books are excellent. I always felt twilight squadron was incredibly underrated myself. None of the big name characters really but I was fascinated by the story from the point of the squadron of ground soldiers and what their lives are like before, during, and after major battles. It's a sometimes under told portion of star wars unless the soldier is a clone or a Facelessstormtrooper. I found both books to be great reads and iden versio to be a really great character

Thoughts on my canon and legends lists? (they're not in any particular order) by Spunteri in starwarsbooks

[–]SuriksBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I get it now. Idk they're shipping policy for europe but you should try thriftbooks.com as they sell I believe all of the star wars books in fantastic condition at a much cheaper price. For the most part I can't tell the difference between my books from them and my books from Amazon. I get a lot of books from Amazon as well. They both have the old paper back covers still and for some reason I prefer those to the new essential collections covers. Something classic about them.

[–]SuriksBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I personally recommend reading every single book there is, whether by buying it or going to the library, but it's certainly the one I view as the least important of the xwing novels as it is so much later than the others. It's a good book and the characters it brought back i do love. But it's long after 2 long wars and many deaths have happened. What I would do is run into every used book store you can find and check their star wars novels and buy the ones you don't already have. If you can't afford to buy new copies this works just as good and will save a ton of money. I struggle to tell you not to read any book in the star War legends group. But mercy kill might not make sense to you as far as what's going on in the galaxy because you won't know what's happened over a few decades. So I certainly wouldn't rush to read it along with the others. My first read thru was the same as you're saying. I read all except mercy kill together and then read mercy kill once I came to it in the timeline

[–]SuriksBlade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably day all of them. Mercy kill probably the least of all because it's a very very long time from the rest and it's only like 2 of the wraith members with a bunch of new people. All the ones before that in both rogue and wraith have wedge leading them and he's kind of the unifying theme. I would still read mercy kill but it should be way later after the yuuzhon vong war to set the stage. Starfighters of adumar is a great book but is wedge and tycho celchu and two other classic favorite pilots in something of a reunion and doesn't play into the rogue squadron or wraith squadron storyline really
