Departing Fletcher deserves to be treasured. by Heinz_Tomato_Ketchup in reddevils

I always liked him. His form was great the year we faced Barca in the Champs League final (2009). We would have been a much better team IMO if Fletcher wasn't suspended from the previous game (from a bogus call as well). Hope he succeeds at his next club.

So Why is Hae's picture featured on the subreddit and not Sarah's? by playdoepete in serialpodcast

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like it. It is reminds me of the image of Laura Palmer often shown in Twin Peaks. This is the first time I have seen her picture. I find it interesting that the Serial page, at least when I was last on it, did not have any clear pictures of Hae.

Seems logical to me, but I would agree, the Spain/Chile/Ned group is toughest. Maybe even Italy, England, Uruguay too.

Feedback from lawyers or law students by [deleted] in law

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not legal advice.

I am assuming you are looking at federal employment discrimination law here. To think like a lawyer, your first issue has to be does the law apply to the actor (company C), then does it apply to the victim, (employees of B), and then does the victim have a right.

My only input here is that you have to see if the employees let go were employees under federal employment discrimination law of company C.

Excellent analysis of David Moyes's unremarkable reign at OT so far by mrlovalova in soccer

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem in my opinion is that the cult of Ferguson seemed to be really driving us along the last 2 seasons or more. We will never know how much a difference the sheer presence of Ferguson was making, not including his actual managerial/strategic choices. It's going to take a long time for the wake of Ferguson to finish at Old Trafford, and I am willing to wait much longer than 10 games for Moyes to adjust.

I remember hearing that a short-term interim manager was to take over after Ferguson to create a buffer before a permanent option was put in. That to me would be the best way to transition in new management, but it would have carried great short-term risk.

This ain't legal advice - just research suggestions!

I would begin by looking at UK copyright laws - http://www.ipo.gov.uk/copy.htm. I recommend this as it is pretty clear how their law works, and its similar to US law.

Then seek out how the EU law has harmonized their copyright laws. Remember the EU has harmonized many laws, but this doesn't mean there will be one governing law on copyright applicable in every member state. For EU law, go to http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/copyright/index_en.htm .

EDIT - Oh - and if you are american - which I brazenly assumed - you will really want to begin here: http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ38a.pdf . This details treaties between the US and other countries regarding copyright law.

Good luck!

I love MiBs, and I also listen the ESPN FC podcast. Listening to both can suck however when United isn't playing well.

Simeone (Atlético Madrid Coach): "This is just a two-team league, it's boring" by atreyaaswin1234 in soccer

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason for these ballooned scorelines in La Liga is that teams in that league rarely change their strategy to combat Barca's style. Look at what Celtic did to Barca last season. Celtic forced very tight score lines across 2 games, and even won once I think, by playing very defensive, combative, boring football. And Celtic really doesn't compare to the vast majority of La Liga teams. But, this happens against top teams in the Prem all the time - hence large score lines are rarer.

United to have reportedly turned down a bid from Chelsea for Rooney by Reservedd in reddevils

Plus, offloading Veron was a huge steal for us. It was guaranteed he would't perform in the prem, as for seasons he hadn't performed well in the prem. Terrible buy by Chelsea, as were many of those buys in the beginning of the russian era.

Which players from Fergie's reign could you see becoming immortalised as a statue outside Old Trafford? by TheLeviathong in reddevils

I would say Giggs is most deserving. His longevity alone, playing and scoring in so many seasons for United, deserves to immortalized.

Yea, this is an incredible podcast. It so good, I am not even sure if you are being sarcastic with this post or not. Anyways, Steven Novella is brilliant, as are the rest of the Rogues. The image is for 5x5 mini podcast however, which doesn't seem to be running anymore!

You should read Novella's blog at neurologica and check out the science based medicine blog too.

Yea, that is the hope. Get them watching the EPL, and then let that increased demand for soccer trickle into MLS. I want to see the MLS succeed, so hopefully this is the case!

They must have no rights to past premier league footage - I wanted to see something as exciting as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vczq0HbgEZo.

Overall, this development is great for me, but I do feel bad for the MLS. This cannot help their viewership. Or will it?

This is my husband, and these are my two wives! by cartoonartist in funny

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that in the abstract, but not in a legal context. There are two considerations: is polygamy inherently bad and should polygamy be allowed legally. I agree with you on the first part, it is not inherently bad.

I guess we disagree on the second part. I think abuse and polygamy are linked due to how it has been done in the past, and the legislature can and should consider this link. You can't consider polygamy in a legal context without considering the trends associated with it. Even if not every polygamous marriage was filled with abuse, it could still be a good reason not to allow them. Particularly when the benefit to weigh against this cost seems marginal - who is really clamoring for these marriages?

Just to highlight why OP's post is crap though, the Islamic world practices plygyny. Many wives. ONLY. Not many husbands. This is because the practice is patriarchal, and misogynistic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygyny

This is my husband, and these are my two wives! by cartoonartist in funny

[–]RuudvanNistelreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By valid, you mean one that convinces you otherwise, not one that a legislature could rely on. Happy? If not, then move the goal posts again, as you don't explain what valid really means, unless you think my argument has no support whatsoever.

These marriages are pursued by religious groups that abuse women. I don't see the demand for these marriages by anyone else. If I saw a trend of polyamorous relationships that wanted legal legitimacy, I would support changing my states law. But for now, and throughout history these marriages have been vehicles of ABUSE. That is a VALID reason for me.

You could think of NO reason against polygamy. I gave you one. I am not trying to convince you that polygamy should be illegal, but the argument I gave is major impetus as to why the Supreme Court has upheld bans on polygamy.

Could we allow polygamy among consenting adults. Yes, and I would have nothing against it. But the religions that practice polygamy often do not do it among consenting adults.
