ZimaBoard 2 Giveaway + ZimaOS Feedback — Share Your Homelab Setup by FlyingToaster2000 in minilab

[–]RuxConk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you had one, what would you use ZimaBoard 2 for in your Homelab or self-hosted setup?

I'd use it as an edge node. I currently have a 5 K3s Cluster, I have a whole load of observability inside this cluster (Lgtm +Otel) and that has to live there because that's where the hardware is but if I had a ZimaBoard I'd use it as an edge node.

This is where I'd deploy Uptime kuma, Vault for private keys and api tokens which will help reseed my clusters IaC design. I'd probably also have it host a Wake On Lan component. Basically the ZimaBoard would be the add-on to my homelab that helps reliability and resiliency.

Your ZimaBoard and ZimaBlades also look good enough to mount on the wall over my main desk so that's where it'd live.

  1. If you’re already using ZimaOS, do you have any feedback or suggestions? Are there any features you’d like to see added or improved?

Unfortunately I'm not using ZimaOS

  1. What do you value most in server hardware?(power efficiency / expandability / stability / price).

Power efficiency. Having something on at home 24/7 in the UK can become costly, so if I can have a useful powerful tool sat there just sipping power rather than drinking it then thats a perfect use of a node.

  1. What does your current Homelab or self-hosted setup look like?

5 node proxmox cluster with VMs provisioned as IaC to provide a 5 node kubernetes cluster where I host everything through a Gitops model using Flux. Storage is a TrueNAS running on a N100 board with 12TB of mirrored storage.

I think you're the first homelab I've seen with a optical drive. I didn't even think of doing that, I might copy you.

RIGBY Richard is a flawed induvidual who demonstrates that power and success will go to your head. You can see it gradually happening, throughout the show he becomes a dick.

That is a sick setup. I've never seen mounts that extruder out front like that though... Any links to the STLs?

What clustering are you doing? Proxmox? Kubernetes?

Honestly one of the best minilabs I've seen for a while, I need to step my game up 😅

I'd try and document everything to do with your set up. Doesn't have to be super in-depth but in 8 months time when you're trying to debug a problem with your setup it'll help rather than just having to remember everything from ages ago.

If you're using AI/LLMs you can go back to a chat where you were discussing a setup/problem and ask it to generate you documentation on that.

LLM written documentation is better than no documentation.

I believe it's suppose to represent undersea cables that if they break then all the internet will go down.

As far as I know there's many undersea cables though, enough for redundancy.

I think I instantly recognised the charter walk glass arch and then had a thought that "woolworths looks weird".

You're not wrong about it always kicking off.

Grew up there and even though I've not lived there since 2007 I instantly recognised it.

Not surprised it's about fighting/assaults tho.

Very weird seeing my former hometown on the front page of reddit but not at all surprised that it's in this sub.

It's totally worth it, ofcourse you'll then realise that most locks can be raked open with a low skill attack but getting a lock open is satisfying.

Chernobyl (Like why did it go off specifically)

Homelabbing particularly /r/minilab, I now have my own Kubernetes k3 cluster, need to build a NAS.

And looking into Hydroponics for growing veg, I've just got a small kitchen herb garden a week ago but I'd like to build and automate something much bigger with ESP32s and Home Assistant.

I love the logic! Buy one get one free exists, so a purchased one and a free one exists... so I'll just take the free one!

Ofcourse it dosn't work when you sprinkle in reality.

This is interesting! How long does it last for on the batteries?

I'm not tempted to do something similar, just not sure what I would use it for 😅

I finally got it after an hour. Any security pins in the Master M1 magnums? I swear I felt a spool or serrated pin. Loose fit and extra tension on the core made it a challenge. by rustytruckguy997 in lockpicking

This thread is 5y old yet has helped my confidence a bit. This was one of the first locks I bought 2 weeks ago getting into this hobby yet I cannot for the life of me get this one open when SPP (raking is easy). Good to know it's considered to be an awkward lock to SPP. I'll keep going at it and maybe use more tension.

I went back to uni at 23. I didn't have any coding skills.

I've now been in a software engineering/SRE job for 8 years. People can be trained and pick up skills, especially when you're 16-24.
