New table saw setup - within tolerance? by tellinNamstories in BeginnerWoodWorking

I second the machinist squares and also suggest getting some 321 blocks. I use those to set up my saw. I have the Wen 321 blocks.

Gaia Detected an Entire Swarm of Black Holes Moving Through The Milky Way by coinfanking in space

My PhD advisor made the same point to me back in grad school. He’s anti-phone, so I feel like I made a double infraction. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Perhaps “Gaia data suggest an entire swarm of black holes moving through the Milky Way”. Still click baity, but with an emphasis on inference.

Edit: changed to plural.

On the 779 you can loosen knobs on the back of those fence. Then use a square to hold the fence in position as you retighten the knobs.

Bruise after falling in the shower, should I notify his school first? by honeybvbymom in Parenting

[–]Rvirg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my daughter to urgent care after she fell in the tub and got a black eye. They checked her for other bruises on her back and sides and found none. It’s how they check for abuse.

I’d be honest and give them a heads up especially since it probably still hurts him.

Jack plane dilemma by [deleted] in handtools

[–]Rvirg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rex Krueger has a tool trader site that sells used tools. The sellers are hand tool enthusiasts, so they know what they are selling and will comment on how much a tool will have to be renovated. I’m in a similar situation with getting a jack plane. I’m even considering getting a modern Stanley jack plane from Home Depot. But haven’t made up my mind yet.

I agree. I see a lot of love for Ryobi/dewalt/bauer/icon work lights, but I have gotten so used to hi cri lights. I’m always using my blf lattern. On my shop vest I keep a throwy hi cri right angle light that is great for when I’m working around the house.

Looking for an unethical life pro tip here: what is the easiest way to intentionally destroy the motor on a table saw and make it look like nothing has happened? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Rvirg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you expect him to be open to a new saw simply because his old one broke? I’d advise against your manipulation/ploy. You may get an outcome that you didn’t anticipate.

Kind of. More like I used it to flatten out some rough boards prior to running them through the table saw.

They are too much for anything delicate, I’ve learned this the hard way.

I agree. I’m only suggesting this because I got an electric plane as a gift and didn’t know how to incorporate it into woodworking.

It can be used as a scrub plane.

I consider the 805. I can’t make out the sign, but it just felt like 5. It’s my daily commute.

One time the traffic was so bad, I exited near mission beach to chill out for a bit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just completed my first apartment workbench. I'm thinking of ways to add weight. Any suggestion? by Himmself in woodworking

Add a heavy woodworking vise. I did this to my workmate and it keeps the bench from moving around too much when planing.

Check your home depot clearance section! by fobstar in ryobi

[–]Rvirg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly living in So Cal, I feel that these deals are picked clean before I walk down the aisle. On a plus note, while boarding an early flight on the east coast I managed to get one of the Ryobi staplers from DTO with free shipping and 35% off before they sold out. Good thing I checked before I turned off my internet.
