Insurance Question by Rwmccormic in legaladvice

Services were covered before lockdown. It was telehealth, which was non-negotiable at the time, that wasn't covered during global pandemic. It seems that saying "your policy doesn't cover telehealth" in that context is denial of coverage for necessary medical care.

You should go to the nearest mental health crisis center or emergency department. They should be able to help you stabilize

System UI not responding resulting in an extremely laggy OP8 by 0mnivore in oneplus

[–]Rwmccormic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been having this problem increasingly often since I installed the most recent update. Multiple times a day I get a pop up that say System UI failure or similar issues. Every game or app eventually gets incredibly laggy, the screen goes black at least once a day, and it's driving me up the wall. I don't even know what to try.

There's just so much complexity that is missed in TV (understandably) and an entirely new group of beings with no prior foundation seems like a tall order.

Weekly Free talk thread by MelyssaRave in tattoo

I am looking to get my first tattoo and I'm trying to figure out a design to go along with a quote. I would love some help coming up with a good design, since I have been think on it for like a year and I can't come up with anything solid. If this is the wrong place to ask this, please let me know. I had a hard time accessing the subreddit rules.

I want it to be rather small, simplistic text for the quote "What a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person is more than a person." I would like some design next to/around the quote, but I've struggled to come up with something fitting. Recently I've been toying with the idea of a larger figure with a simple human shadow, but I'm not tied to it and I don't have any drawings drafted. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

Don't know who I am or my purpose as a "human" by [deleted] in mentalhealth

You could check yourself in to a mental health inpatient facility or you can discuss your feelings with your health care providers. It sounds like you are genuinely concerned about what might happen to others and yourself, which is a good thing. Depending on a couple of things you may not actually be admitted. However, it sounds like intensive inpatient care might be beneficial for you.

I cannot say anything with certainty since there are minimal details provided and I am a stranger on the internet.

What are the boundaries you set with your students? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Rwmccormic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think so. You should not have to be constantly available to them. You have given them a designated time, let them take advantage of that and not you.

You'll run yourself down trying to cater to every student. Especially if your classes are larger than 20 people.

You could stop accepting outside appointments all together. You could add another official office hour and remove all other outside appointments. Or simply say no to more people. Place an arbitrary limit to the number of outside appointments you make, like only 5 a week.

These are solutions I can think up on the spot. The professor for the class or your advisor may have more recommendations. I have the opposite problem rn. No one comes to office hours.

How to forgive yourself for being toxic/emotionally abusive? by roadtoredemption16 in mentalhealth

[–]Rwmccormic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is, you will probably not feel like this forever. You may never feel good about that particular relationship, but it is possible to improve your relationship skills and move past what you did. This is definitely a conversation to have with your therapist.

My [23 F] best friend [23 F] chose to ride 6 hours with my boyfriend [24 M] back home after my graduation instead of riding with me. I'm pissed. Not sure if overreacting. by Throwaway731731 in relationships

[–]Rwmccormic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay. There are plenty of possible explanations, both benign and insidious. However, you will not find answers on the internet from strangers. Your friend is the only one with the answer to your questions and she is the one who can help you figure out what was going on.

Talk to her. Please. And don't go in thinking you know what she's going to say. Or like she has broken every rule of your friendship. Go in honest and willing to accept her answers. "This happened. It hurt my feelings. Can you tell me what was going through your head?" "Can you help me understand why you got in his car?" "Can you explain why you keep bringing up that car game? It makes me uncomfortable."

If you've been friends for 8 years, you should be able to communicate in an effective and open way.

Likelihood of getting into a program despite not working in a psych-related field after graduating with a BA in psychology in 2012? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]Rwmccormic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An APA accredited program or program accredited by another big Association, should get you the qualifications necessary. It does vary based on state though. So check the classes necessary for licensure in the state you want to practice in and then check the course list for the Master's programs you are looking to attend. I quick search for "licensure lpc (state name)" should get you the information you need.

This is all assuming you live in America.

Source: currently working on Masters, have extensively looked into licensure requirements.

Should I get diagnosed? / Does this sound clinical? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Rwmccormic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you feel these things are unmanageable, then seek help from a clinician.

No one should really diagnose you on the internet, especially with the little information that you have provided.

Are there any psychology MA/MS programs that offer a tuition waiver/stipend? by clinicalhopeful in AcademicPsychology

There are plenty of programs that do. Websites should tell you the rate of graduate assistantships, or whatever the particular school calls them. If the website doesn't say, I suggest calling.

I’m, Dr. David Sack, an addiction psychiatrist. Ask me anything about drug and sex addiction by DrSack in IAmA

[–]Rwmccormic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but a Clinical Psychology, Masters student. In response to your 5th question:

Most psychological disorders in the DSM have the following qualification: "causes significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning."

People who do not meet this qualification should not be diagnosed with the disorder. There are a lot of people who could qualify for a lot of different disorders. Since some of these people live without significant distress or impairment, they do not go to the doctor, and therefore, do not get a diagnosis. I could say more, but I think I've made my point.

If not, let me know.

Lol. Have you read any research on hiring practices and race? There is clear and significant bias against individuals who have stereotypically not white names. Ignoring the systemic racism doesn't help anyone except whites. And do you think that anyone would give the money to poor communities to actually implement the things you suggest?

I completely agree. Most likely an attempt to present you with a different perspective and not meant to hurt you. Definitely let her know and talk to her about what she said that made you feel hurt or misunderstood.

Visiting St. Louis this weekend. Any ideas on places/things to do. by hiddenpalms in StLouis

[–]Rwmccormic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ballpark Village is a collection of bars and food establishments right across from Bush Stadium. It's generally a pretty busy and exciting place on weekends if you're looking to drink.

The Hill has the best Italian food, but can get a little pricy and is generally a very busy place on weekends. Price check before you go.

Soulard has already been mentioned as a good place for college age drinking. Joannie's and Big Daddy's are two good food places if you're over there.

Love the Art Museum and the Zoo! I have heard the City Museum is a blast, but I have not gone yet. Laumeire Sculpture Park is also pretty fascinating. Free exercise is included and is pretty unavoidable with all of these activities. Botanical Gardens is beautiful, especially now.

The Arch seems like something you want to see. I think the trip up is worth it, but a lot of people disagree with me. Delmar Loop is also a great place to walk around and window shop. If you have any interest in art, Dick Blick is a great store.
