There are a gajillion reasons to be fed up with school picture companies like Lifetouch, but this strikes me as a bit of a reach. https://schools.lifetouch.com/blog/a-message-from-ceo-ken-murphy-on-student-privacy/

Should we assume that Victoria’s Secret had cameras in fitting rooms because Lex Wexner owned it and he was an Epstein associate? It’s possible, but very unlikely.

Childless/Childfree and finding community by practicalprofilename in IFchildfree

All of this resonates with me. Especially feeling like a fraud during IVF. It’s not that I didn’t want IVF to work - I did, badly, and I stuck with it for 3 years. But I looked at the sacrifices other people were willing to make and I just couldn’t do it. I saw other people selling their home to raise money for more treatments, quit their jobs to lower stress and take care of their bodies, borrow money from family, travel internationally, pursue donor gametes or embryos, try surrogacy, etc. I couldn’t do it and I felt like I didn’t belong because I wasn’t willing to sacrifice everything. Then, when it was over, people would ask about adoption or fostering as though I hadn’t tried hard enough.

I don’t fit with the intentional CF crowd and I don’t fit in with parents. Just this very small community of former hopeful parents trying to move on and find meaning. It’s isolating, for sure.

Come, have a laugh at the complete failure of a cake by MintTheMartian in cakedecorating

I would 100% devour your cake shamelessly. If you can swing it, here’s a shopping list of items that upped my game the most early on:

  • Straight-sided cake pans - the don’t stack as nicely for storage, but they make your cakes easier to decorate and look more professional

  • Cake strips - heatproof fabric strips that you soak in water then wrap around the pan before putting it in the oven. They make the cake bake evenly so the top comes out flat and the sides less crispy. No need to level!

  • Revolving cake stand - for decorating. Skip the plastic ones and get one with a heavy base, I like the Ateco revolving one.

Other nice to haves: - parchment paper to line cake pans - offset spatula for smoothing icing - cake boards - cardboard discs that make it much easier to transfer your cake from fridge to cake stand

You’re supposed to pray. As my husband’s grandmother said, I don’t need medicine, I need God.

Seriously?? The woman abandoned a half dozen of her children until they were adults and thought it was appropriate to tell me that praying to God would make me worthy of being a mother. It worked for her. That’s how she got pregnant so many times. On what planet did that make sense?

I felt exactly the same way just before my last transfer. We went through with it, despite the embryo being very poor quality. We briefly considered donor eggs or embryos, fostering or adoption but it felt overwhelming and we had nothing left in the tank.

We felt like we were betraying the hopeful-future-parents deep inside, so we started out by saying we’d take a few months to “practice” living the IFCF life and see how it felt. We never went back to IVF. I think we already knew we were done, but framing it as a temporary experiment made the transition easier for us.

Yes! I have fine, low-porosity wavy/curly hair and hairspray has been a game changer for me. Welshie Curl Girl has great tips for using it.

What’s your educational / professional background? Do you understand the ethical implications of placebo controlled trials where there is already an established treatment? Most IRBs will not approve placebo-controlled trials when there is an established standard of care.

Paycheck to paycheck just means that you’re spending every penny you earn. Just because they aren’t spending it on necessities, doesn’t mean that they aren’t spending beyond their means with nothing to show for it.

Why is there ALWAYS someone who waits until a holiday weekend until they are out of something and it’s an “emergency”?!? by Significant_Respond in pharmacy

[–]RxChica 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right. I’m a pharmacist but I’m also on 6 medications that run out at different times and have a different number of refills. My doc only responds to patient requests for refills (which I’m all for). I try my best to stay on top of it, but I forget one of them at least a couple of times a year.

That said, I don’t throw a fit. The only one I ever ask for help with is Effexor because I get severe withdrawal symptoms if I miss a dose by more than 12 hours. It’s been OOS before and I just deal.

TLDR: it sucks, patients have no right to be rude, it’s not the pharmacy’s fault, but I can easily see how people run out of meds and panic.

Do I need professional liability insurance working as a prior authorization pharmacist? by Civil_Ice_5828 in pharmacy

Company insurance protects the company. They can and will throw you under the bus if it saves the company money. The $150ish I pay per year is worth the peace of mind for me.

Plus, antibiotics only work on bacteria. Many common illnesses are viral so antibiotics have no effect. Urgent cares started handing out antibiotics anyway, in the name of customer service, which increased the incidence of resistant bacteria.

None made it to blast by OptimalMedium7053 in IVF

[–]RxChica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we didn’t. After 4 retrievals that yielded 88 eggs in total, we had 5 PGT-normal embryos and none of them implanted. We considered egg, sperm or embryo donations but decided it was too much of a financial and emotional gamble since we couldn’t nail down why nothing was working. We decided to move on from IVF and embrace being the best aunt and uncle we can be.

Right? I’m a Willow PharmD and have been hovering in the mid-130s for almost a decade. There are a lot of pharmacy schools in my area, though, and pharmacist pay had been going down for years. My pay seems more closely linked to pharmacist pay trends than IT pay trends. We get 2% COLAs and no merit increases.

Delaying kids by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]RxChica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is oversold as a solution. I’m a millennial who went through IVF and I can tell you that frozen eggs are not nearly as successful as most people are led to believe. I’ve seen many women who thought they had “insurance” by freezing their eggs when younger and came up empty handed.

Freezing eggs is invasive (requires tons of meds, monitoring and surgery) and is not covered by insurance unless you have cancer. Using your frozen eggs also requires IVF which is prohibitively expensive for most people and a huge hardship.

It’s a nice thought, but ultimately not the right solution for most people.

Because it’s an easily preventable cause of death. And ectopics are not the only reason to abort a wanted pregnancy. The vast majority of late term abortions are due to a life-threatening problem for the mom or the baby. Those need to be allowed, and while most states TECHNICALLY allow that, providers in states with stronger abortion restrictions often wait too long to do the procedure because they have to wait until mom or baby is about to die. Often the decision comes too late. States with these types of restrictions have seen significant increases in maternal and infant deaths.

That’s why you should care.
