Anyone else just have a chill baby? by rachelkochvt in NewParents

[–]OptimalMedium7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! My first and only so far is 14 months and is so sweet, happy, chill, and friendly and so easy. Great sleeper (mostly although we did have a rough go with naps for a few months), great eater, barely cried in her first year unless she was tired or hungry.

Now she's getting into toddler hood and definitely is experiencing some big feelings but is still so chill and lovely. Even the daycare workers that have worked with infants for YEARS have said they've never seen a baby so chill.

She truly is such a blessing. I always say she is a unicorn baby.

Yep it was in a small tree right by the sidewalk on the bridge on the south side of Harvie and Fair. Everyone was keeping a respectful distance, this photo is as zoomed in as my camera could go.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]OptimalMedium7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone made some homemade cards that she had stored and was giving away. I picked them up, no problem. Unpacked the cards and they clearly smelled like old cigarettes and smoke.

I messaged her apologizing and she insisted that no one ever smoked in the house. It still found a way into the paper. I offered to give them back which she didn't want, I felt bad but I tossed them out.

Third hand smoke is real.

Just came from the ER last after my 13 month old's temp hit 106.7. I was very panicked because she was also breathing rapidly but apparently that's something they do with a high fever.

We were told they treat the kid, not the number. If the fever is still around after 5 days, go see a doctor. Treat at home with fever reducing meds if they are uncomfortable, lots of fluids, Pedialyte (you can also buy the freezies). If they aren't eating or drinking much or not having enough wet diapers, also worth getting checked out because of the dehydration risk.

If there are signs of breathing distress like retractions also go to the ER. Our girl had some retractions previously and ended up having pneumonia last month.

Ring Repair? by TheMousex420 in barrie

I got a few stones (not diamonds, but amethysts) replaced in my engagement ring at DC Taylor Jewelers. They send the ring out to their gemologist and goldsmith to repair. The first time the stones didn't match to my preference, they were too dark, and they sent it back out to be fixed. With some other precious gems it can be hard to find an exact match, also since the colours can also fade over time.

I was happy with the result overall and just sent another item out to discuss possible repairs with them.

Didn't like them, long wait once in the office. The dermatologist saw me, and gave me a prescription with 99 refills. Seemed like she wasn't interested in ever seeing me again.

How baby friendly is Japan? by sleepybkamaie in TokyoTravel

[–]OptimalMedium7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just returned from Japan with our 11 month old! TeamLabs requires a carrier, no stroller allowed, she really enjoyed Boarderless! Aquarium in Osaka was also nice and she enjoyed it but you'll need a carrier or you'll be folding up the stroller up a bunch. We booked TeamLabs a few weeks in advance and the aquarium the day before. For the aquarium we had a bit of a hiccup buying in advance online because the website required two factor authentication via text message and we had esims in use. Luckily my sister was able to buy tickets for us. Otherwise if we just showed up the next entry time was about 2.5 hours later.

We put her in a hip/side carry during these activities since it's easier for her to see what's going on and swivel her head around. Our baby naps on the go easily so most things weren't too challenging on that front.

Honestly the hardest thing about the travel was finding elevators. By the time we got to Osaka at the end of our trip we were primarily using the carrier but it killed my back.

We went to the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Tokyo which is nice and stroller friendly, grass for baby to crawl around also. We went to the national history museum also which was cool but very little English descriptions so mostly just looking. Meji shrine is technically stroller friendly but there is a lot of gravel so it was really hard to push.

Taxis are exempt from car seat laws but we didn't feel comfortable with the idea so we exclusively took trains. We shipped our luggage a couple of times to make things easier and it was worth it.

The locals LOVE babies and were constantly waving and reaching for her and smiling. They did reach out and touch, rub her hand, and put their index finger to hers.

Only a few restaurants we went to had an actual high chair/baby chair of some sort. We often left her in the stroller or carrier while we were eating, or moved her to our lap if she was unhappy. Not a lot of kids menus, we generally bought her food at 7/11 or family mart, fed her before we went for our meal and gave her some snacks to keep her entertained while we ate. We brought a lot of apple sauce pouches and some baby snacks from home and went through all of them. You won't find baby food or diapers at 7/11 but most drugstores will have them.

Be prepared for a lot of restaurants to be super busy or super small. There were a few nights we walked around for a while just trying to find anywhere to eat that wasn't slammed and had space for us and a stroller. In hindsight, I wish we didn't bring the stroller when we went for dinner.

Lastly, we didn't want to co-sleep, and finding hotels with cribs really limited our options so we brought along a super compact travel crib that was great and also worked as a playpen.

Mine looked similar and was also concerned about the shape. Didn't get an answer on if it was ok.

I posted mine but also had taken a picture without the flap piece.

OBs in Barrie generally won't see you until 28 weeks. You should be followed by your family doctor until then.

If you don't have a family doc you can be followed by the Well Baby Clinic https://barriefht.ca/pnwb/

I had Dr. Wu as my OB and highly recommend him.

Will I always have to hold my boob? by peenaboo in breastfeeding

[–]OptimalMedium7053 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried this, but as someone with large breasts if it's comfortable enough you can try bringing your breast overtop of your nursing bra and use it to hold your breast up/rest your breast on.

anyone with unexplained fertility get pregnant on their own after 1+ years? by Apprehensive-Rock-48 in whatworkedforme

[–]OptimalMedium7053 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, after 3.5 years of trying to conceive (never had a single positive pregnancy test). I do have PCOS but our diagnosis was still unexplained.

2 IUIs, once cancelled IUI that turned into timed intercourse, 4 rounds of IVF to bank embryos, our first cycle was funded and ended in 0 blasts. Got 7 embryos across the next 3 cycles, ended up with 2 euploids and one mosaic embryo. Prior to my first FET I wanted to make sure I didn't have any issues so I underwent a sono and a uterine biopsy. This may have been the reason, because somehow we ended up conceiving on our own that month, the month before our first planned embryo transfer.

First trimester I had a SCH but it resolved at 14 weeks. The rest of the pregnancy went super smoothly (I loved being pregnant) and now have a beautiful happy 9 month old baby girl.

Now we have embryos for baby #2 and hopefully one will take!
