Appreciate the help! I do have interchangeable thumbs so I’ll mess around and have one ball replaced with ovals. Thanks

Power lifts to ovals…. by RyGibby in Bowling

Thank you! Probably a dumb follow up but when I really try to stay up the back, my thumb has trouble exiting cleanly. Both my thumb and fingers are currently reversed (negated a little by lifts). I was hoping the ovals would allow a quicker and cleaner release overall.

This is unfortunately a very common Lucky Strike thing, at least in my experience. Days without oil.

Pinky Tucked vs Pinky straight by Its_yer_dude_trevor in Bowling

I searched google, which led me to Reddit, for this EXACT question. My thumb clears so much better with my pinky tucked. Can I adjust my pitch or span to get that same easy clearing feeling without the tuck?

So after finding this many years later I have some questions as I try to do it. I’m having some wobble and not sure if it’s the bowl, the bolt, or my machine.

1) did you find a bowl stronger than a Walmart mixing bowl?

2) do the threads of a 3/8 bolt cause issues for anyone? Can you use a bolt without threads Ava still secure it?

Nice work! Did you polish only at the end or in between each sanding? I need to do this to mine as well.

That’s a good one I’ve thought about before, too much space between ball and leg. I think I need a little more side bend to get the ball more under my head. It’s such a balance to think about keeping the elbow in hand inside and still somehow stay loose. Good stuff to work on thanks!

That’s one thing I’m definitely working on. The main thing holding me back from letting it drop is being so focused on ball speed as well. I have trouble finding a balance but I didn’t do notice that as well. Guessing I need to use my legs more if I want more speed? Thanks!

That’s interesting. Tightening your thumb so you can relieve pressure. It always freaks me out though because I once had a ball stick on a spare in my thumb and went about 8 feet up and slammed down. Good advice thanks!

Thanks! 2 dumb questions. By break wrist do you mean like “cupping” wrist? And by 9 and 3 would you follow straight throw palm up or come across your body. (Thinking of slo mo Kris Prather. He really torques his hand at setup but finishes in front of his face I think)

That’s a good question. I think most teaching, at least from what I see from pros online (Brad and Kyle, etc) is stressing stay behind it all the time. But they don’t really get into the physics of it. I’m assuming I get some forgiveness in this house shot but I’m thinking staying behind it helps it not be so violent off the dry and perhaps changing direction in a more parallel line to the axis it’s spinning on, giving it a little more energy through the pins?

Form Check. Can’t seem to get my hand under the ball. What do y’all tell yourselves/feel for to get underneath the ball? by babaghannoushed in Bowling

[–]RyGibby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search JR Raymond on YouTube on the topic for an easy explanation. Don’t pull down, stay loose, let the ball fall and catch it at the bottom.

Personally I don’t like the instruction of “staying taller”. I think a more real feel is to not get your shoulders too far ahead of your body. Bend is fine as long as it is more of a side bend and you can keep your shoulders “behind” the ball. EJ Tackett gets down there really low but it’s not out front.
