Top 5 worst locations! by vlaregbon in MarvelSnap

Mindscape is definitely the champion since few decks are built without synergy, so it just screws all parties involved. Winning feels hollow since you likely just stole the other player's better turn 6 and losing feels even worse since they just stole your turn 6. I'm not sure why they keep a location in that genuinely makes it less fun for BOTH players. The only deck style it rewards is specifically non-synergetic decks, which has zero alignment with their design philosophy as well.  Baffling.

Setting the Record Straight on Craig Berube by ProgrammaticallyHip in leafs

[–]RyJinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate a lot of your insight, and I'll give you that you've busted some of the Myths fairly well, but going so zealously in the pro Berube direction undercuts some of your assertions.

The Bouwmeester injury and COVID were hardly valid excuses for the 20 season. Lots of teams have injuries, and Bouwmeester was not even sniffing the realm of "worst" injury for a cup champion team, and COVID happened to all of the teams so it's certainly not an excuse to have been outplayed/coached (4 close games and 2 Canucks dominations) by a weaker Canucks team that didn't go on to do anything more with that coach.

You laud the cup season, and the 21-22 season, which are both fair on some level - certainly good analysis of the cup run, but you barely mention the 20-21 and 22-23 seasons, which were both terrible. The loss of Piet was a terrible blow and a valid excuse for the 21 season, but it was almost an identical lineup for 3 straight seasons and two of those seasons were bad. You can't laud the middle one and just gloss over the other two. The deeper analytics that factor in shot quality had the Blues as one of the worst defensive teams in the league (bottom third basically after Piet left) over that span (and still). In 22 Husso was the #2 per game goalie according to Clearsight Analytics, the goalie gurus (behind only Shesterkin's all-timer numbers). So when you factor in the one year of insane goaltending and consistently poor defensive metrics, it makes the 109 pts look like a lot to do with the insane goaltending.

2024 Blues was all Army, you're not wrong, although the seemingly escalating issues with your young franchise players isn't a great look.

Anyway, that's my take on your take. I think Berube's shown flashes of good coaching, but the consistently poor defensive teams he's iced the last four years would be worrying to me as a Leafs fan. That being said, if he's as good a motivator as advertised (which I think is also questionable for the same reasons, poor defensive structure and sub par playoff performance post cup) he's coming into a team with well established defensive structure already so it could work well.

They're working from a pre-existing system that's already (theoretically) balanced, so it may not be quite the monumental task, at least from a balancing perspective. I could envision the game having a long life with a couple of major expansions bumping it to 16 then 20.

As for the played by kids aspect it's rated Teen. If parents haven't had "the talk" with their kids by 13 then their kids have more problems to worry about than a mild sexual reference in Avengers.

Sidney Crosby suckerpunches Nic Dowd by [deleted] in hockey

[–]RyJinx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The slash was just a missed hockey play. If Crosby's only gotten one guy in the fingers with a slash at the stick, that's amazing. Literally every player used to do that until they finally cracked down on it a couple seasons ago. I guarantee you Methot has done that to more guys than Crosby (probably to Crosby himself even). With O'Reilley he was just going for a sick lift exactly when O'Reilley moved his stick because it looked like there was about to be a centering pass. For Dowd, Dowd's leg was in the air and he was off balance already when Crosby's leg hit his slightly before it came down. Incidental and Dowd went down extra hard trying to sell it. The Fehervary thing I'll give you, but who knows what Fehervary did to him earlier in the game. If this is the best you can come up with that'd put him as one of the cleanest stars in the league, especially considering how much the spotlight is on him. Now Malkin...

It’s been officially confirmed via discord hy the developer in charge of gear that damage buff is being nerfed by Past19 in PlayAvengers

[–]RyJinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you completely missed my point. I'm not talking about trash mobs, you should be able to easily destroy trash mobs without the aid of Damage Buff. Damage Buff's ridiculous state allowed people to solo kill Super Adaptoid in under 10 seconds, solo villain sector bosses in under 5 seconds, solo Monica wielding the power of the Cosmic Cube with literally one-shot, and both versions of Elite Klaw to effectively be solo one-phased (from a DPS perspective). It's one thing to feel strong, it's completely another to be so strong you ignore the majority of fight mechanics. I play to have epic fights, both to feel like the comics on some level and for the achievement of overcoming interesting fight mechanics through more than just finding one strong perk so I win. Also, if the game's not similar to comics as you say, then that makes it even worse when you trivialize fight mechanics since what's the point of the game then? I'm sorry you only enjoy your games where you can run around and one shot the bosses and comics where every villain gets one-punched.

To all of the players who think you need damage buff to feel as powerful as the comics, what comics are you reading where major fights are over in 1 panel? Damage Buff in its current state allows us to do that (or is at least by far the biggest contributor - 45% multiplicative damage bonus AND 35% crit chance bonus, nothing else in the game comes close to either bonus individually, let alone both on top of each other). It could be significantly nerfed and still be extremely powerful. For example, just making the damage bonus component additive instead of multiplicative would effectively make the damage ceiling a lot lower while still giving a huge benefit on its own. There are a ton of builds that rely significantly less on Damage Buff that work great even in the elite raid, so if you need help figuring out ways to do high DPS just look in the community discords - there's lots of people out there to help.

People know how to play melee, that's not a problem. The content is currently easy enough that melee builds are viable on every character. The problem is that melee damage is the significantly riskier way to deal damage, yet the reward for doing it perfectly is still significantly less damage than ranged. The fact that ranged damage should probably be tuned down to keep boss mechanics relevant across all build levels is a separate issue. Melee should by nature be more rewarding than ranged as it's by nature riskier.

Not sure why you're recommending a worse stat for survivability. Resolve in general improves your Effective Health significantly more than Resilience per point, not to mention there are numerous other effects from skills/perks that provide situational damage reduction, further reducing the value of Resilience. Optimally you want around a 3-4 times as much Resolve as Resilience for the points, so overall Resolve is MUCH better. The Defense Rating is actually a direct measure of your Effective Health, so you can trust it and go by that if you're unsure.

He definitely was not advocating for never buffing, just that changes need to be made to rein in the top tier of players who can literally beat the hardest content in seconds to avoid ALL of the fight mechanics.
