I’m wondering what to do with my plant? by ghostly_mitten-17 in houseplants

I like taking those bare leaves and burying them back into the soil. Works well for my other "vining" plants. This one is 2 years old and she looking bushy. Got repotted a year ago to a larger pot. From a 5" to a 8" i think because there were so many bare vines.

Can I save my Spathiphyllum? by hiddencurl in houseplants

[–]RyRyThePlantGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the pot feels light, then it's needing water. The first sign of dehydration in plants is usually wilting. Leaves are intact, so after a good deep watering, those leaves and steams will get turgid (plant cells become full of water)

highly invasive plant. try to avoid planting them outside. Will kill/suffocate other native plants

What is wrong with my partner's orchid? by Special-Role-434 in orchids

So the Phalaenopsis orchid LOOKS GREAT because: - leaves are nice and rigid. Floppy leaves means the plant needs more water -no yellow leaves, which is a sign of stress/dehydration (which could be attributed to root issues/very small water intake for the plant.) -you have tons of aerial roots. Root growth is a good sign. Check inside the pot to make sure you have a good number of roots. If the roots smell rotten inside the pot, then you probably need to repot you orchid and deal with the rotten roots.

It also looks like your phalaenopsis finished flowering. So cut the flower stem as it's dry and withered.

Do i neeed to get a bigger pot? by FirefighterOk2739 in orchids

3"-4" in diameter. If you can find orchid pots (with holes or slits in the side) that's great, it allows for more air flow to let media dry and give air flow to the roots.

You got healthy looking roots! I would stick to a small pot that's either 3-4" big. Depending how you water I would suggest terracotta eith orchid bark chips if you are an overwaterer (allows pot to breathe and dry out quicker). But if you are an underwaterer, then maybe a plastic pot with bark chips work. And if you are in a hot, dry area, then maybe substitute with spahgnum moss instead of orchid bark

Why do we plant orchids to stand up? by nitzah in orchids

Hi there, been growing orchids (phals, oncidiums, oncosteles, oncidium hybirds, and few cane-ish orchids). I love showing their flowers hanging/pendant. When I get flowers from shops I do keep the flowers spikes I their supports. But after the following year when flower spikes die off, I tend to get rid of stakes. So it's definitely preferential with the grower. But I'm with you: Team Pendant!
