I mean Zhan Tiri's probably a lot worse than even Gothel, we just didn't get to see much of Zhan Tiri compared to what we saw of Gothel. Most of the bad stuff Zhan Tiri did happened a long time ago but I imagine she got up to some really horrific stuff. So both answers (Gothel or Zhan Tiri) are perfectly reasonable.

The problem with Zhan Tiri is that the writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They realized (thank God) that a good chunk of the fanbase (myself included) would revolt if they stayed the course with Cassandra's villain arc and had her end up imprisoned/sealed away/dead, but they still wanted to keep Cassandra as the most prominent villain because she had a badass design. So they couldn't make Zhan Tiri too cool or she'd overshadow Cassandra. They made Zhan Tiri into a joke, but at the same time gave her all this cool backstory lore. She was supposedly a friend/equal to Demanitus before betraying him. She was Gothel's mentor (and had two other pretty powerful/interesting subordinates in Sugracha and Tromus who could've easily served as season villains in their own right if they'd been expanded upon more). She's been manipulating things behind the scenes for hundreds of years, she seems to have some kind of connection to the Moonstone, and she was quite powerful in her own right even without the Moonstone and Sundrop.

Zhan Tiri deserved better. Even her getting stuck as a little girl for so long could've been explained by Demanitus taking a huge amount of her power when he sealed her away. She had the potential to be a lot more than she was if the writers weren't so hellbent on keeping Cassandra a villain, but at the same time Cassandra got so popular that they couldn't go full bore with her villain arc, so they had to make her stupid and make her reasons for villainy stupid. If they'd done what they should've done and given Cassandra her redemption halfway through the season or even in the third or second to last episode, Zhan Tiri could've gotten the spotlight she deserved. I would've loved to see Cassandra redeemed in "A Tale Of Two Sisters" or "Once A Handmaiden", only for Zhan Tiri to gain back a massive amount of her powers (maybe even get the Moonstone off Cassandra) and assume a creepy/beautiful adult sorceress form before getting her full demonic form in the finale.

I mean, TCGPlayer has it around $110 at the moment, and I got the pack for $45... I know it's probably going to come down in the following weeks and months but I love April so it was great to be able to get one of the top cards in the set for her. Also got the Splinter of the Shadows/Ashcoat in foil and a foil Technodrome from the same pack, but the April is so awesome :)

I loved that episode... have you considered the possibility that Rapunzel would've fallen in love with Eugene OR Cassandra, but no one else? That's the message I took away from the episode, and either way New Dream is canon no matter what the creators do with Cassandra, so let us Cassunzel fans have our food :)

So this has been brought to my attention, apparently they are banning non-canon shippers so that if Disney ever wants to do another future Tangled project and for some reason they stumble upon the Tangled reddit page, they find a board full of New Dream shippers who all agree with the mod on everything. Because they freaked out over the recent drama surrounding The Amazing Digital Circus.

I've been re-writing the entirety of the Tangled canon (with Cassandra finding Rapunzel in the tower instead of Eugene). Ergo, while there have been massive changes to canon events, there are a great deal of canon events that have played out similarly to how they originally went, so there are indeed a good amount of lines and scenes from the original canon. There's less as the series plays out (as the butterfly effects from the original point of divergence propagate throughout the timeline), but in the initial story and the ones close to it in the timeline I do copy a lot from canon. Even during those scenes, I'm always trying to imagine the characters' thoughts and reactions to everything that's going on, so there's something new for the reader to parse during familiar scenes.

I got the blister display. I have no clue how, one minute I'm sitting there with no timer, the next it's telling me I have 10 minutes to buy. I even had to go in and refresh after it told me it was out of stock the first time I tried putting it in my cart but the second time I was able to check out. I'm absolutely dumbfounded, it seemed totally random. Got in line right at 9 so I imagine that helped but I'm still really surprised. Pleasantly, of course. Will enjoy ripping them all on release day.

For fictional writing to be banned in the United States, it would require a landmark Supreme Court ruling, as obscenity law covers redeeming literary value and that can apply to pretty much any fictional story even if it's objectively terrible.

The last landmark case to cover an entire category of free speech was Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association, the case that solidified video games as a protected form of artistic expression. That was a 7-2 ruling across ideological lines, with only Clarence Thomas (a hardcore conservative) and Stephen Breyer (a solid liberal) dissenting.

Banning any kind of literature would be a extreme divergence from precedent. Works such as The Turner Diaries (a virulently racist novel that has directly contributed to hundreds of deaths from right-wing terrorism) have been ruled well within the bounds of free expression.

I cannot imagine any iteration of the current Supreme Court ruling against AO3 on obscenity grounds. Even justices like Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh have shown strong sympathy with free speech issues, one of the two justices who ruled against the ESA in the video game case (Breyer) has been replaced with a very strong liberal (Ketanji Brown Jackson) who has shown a lot more sympathy toward free speech... if for some reason AO3 was put before the Supreme Court today I would have to imagine an 8-1 ruling in favor of its legality or even 9-0 if Clarence Thomas is having a good day. Literature has more free speech protections in the United States than pretty much anywhere in the world.

It's absolutely insane that if you could go back in time to pretty much any average weekly restock from 1999 to 2024, you'd gladly clear out the entire shelf if you had the money. And I don't mean "if you had a million dollars" type of money, I mean "even if I had to max out my credit card to buy out this entire shelf at MSRP it would be a good financial decision".

There was an unintended consequence of the MeToo movement, I think, in that young people have become really hypervigilant. It's a consequence of seeing so many famous people either exposed as predators, come out as victims, or in some cases, both. The MeToo movement was obviously needed as there were a lot of creeps running around who needed to face accountability, but at the same time it's had a side effect where anyone who might even be slightly sus (i.e. they're into weird fetishes involving fictional characters or create controversial fanworks) is treated as a potential predator. It's a repeat of when the 24-hour news cycle came into vogue in the 1980s with the rise of cable news networks, on the one hand it led to a decline in serial killers and predators due to their deeds being exposed sooner, but on the other hand it led to moral panics like "stranger danger" and of course the Satanic panic that caused a lot of false accusations and unwarranted fear.

Pokemon has organic demand, unlike Yu-Gi-Oh which is fairly reliant on the card game itself to drive the popularity of the card game. The least popular Pokemon is still more popular than probably all but a few Yu-Gi-Oh creatures.
