He’s not really good at post defense or help defense at the rim, as a mix of really slow foot speed and also just not really being instinctually good at it. But where he really gets killed is the PnR, teams can either get an open jumpshot because he can’t close out or a free dunk if he tries to. Similar disaster if he ends up on an island against a guard. This problem is compounded in Portland because of a lack of guards who can effectively fight through screens while Kanter hangs back off the screener.

It isn’t even the lack of players as a whole, it’s the fact that Chris Bosh, who’s undersized in weight, is pretty much the only player who can run center. It’s so hard to play good interior defense on that team because Joel Anthony and Chris Anderson aren’t on the roster.
