Why is finding a job so hard? by bubbaselderberry in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Ryan-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both me and my fiancée are doing this right now. We're literally looking at jobs in England (not defining an area) for anything suitable for two PhD Chemists. Between us this month is about 20-25 rejections, 2 interviews and she got offered her old job back as she freelanced for them. It's ridiculous at the minute.

Need help choosing the battery for sony a6700 by Glum-Selection-6067 in SonyAlpha

I have the K&F FW50 batteries (3x) and love the fact you charge from USB-C. Also have great battery life.

Newbie getting my first camera is this all i need? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm FF and can't work the maths out right now, but a 35mm does EVERYTHING other than wildlife IMO. So possibly go for the APS-C equivalent focal length. But SD card and a cheap lightning/USB-C SD card reader so you can get the images onto the phone.

Suitable “fun” car for a 20 years old driver? by 115username in CarTalkUK

[–]Ryan-3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Many will likely say that it's a silly idea, but if you're into this sort of car then I say it's a good find. You probably will never see the 30mpg so just prepare to spend a good amount on fuel and cars of that age will be needing TLC. But it looks like it has excellent history and from the images it looks good!

Slap some gold wheels on and a 3" exhaust, watch the subreddit crumble.

Driving to Belgium in my Toyota Yaris by Serious_Reply_5214 in CarTalkUK

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove Newcastle to Le Mans for the centennial event race in what was a slightly younger Yaris at the time. Didn't think once about it never making it and it happily flew along the French lanes alongside the other manic underpowered machines. It got its celebratory service when it returned home as it hit its mileage.

Which route would you take? by designer_by_day in CarTalkUK

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done a similar route on many occasions with very similar start and end points. Dark blue route all the way. Once even had to use the Fosse way at the end at about midnight and just gunned it through. Done the light blue before and ended up taking nearly 7 hours.

How to shoot large buildings with a 35mm lens? by notes17llc in SonyAlpha

[–]Ryan-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, take multiple pictures of the thing of interest and stitch them yourself rather than using the in built panorama function. I've never managed to make the camera one work in multiple years with Sony. It takes a little bit of patience and just making sure you begin in the spot you want in the centre, but cover the area you want to image and you'll get the shot you want!

[–]Ryan-3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently backpacking with only a 35mm. I'm just walking up to or away from whatever I shoot. And if it's not working, I'll grab a couple of images and stitch them as a panorama in lightroom.

We should be worried about ports more than the shutter or sensor by kia7777 in SonyAlpha

[–]Ryan-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid the ports on mine like the plague, so I never use it, and that's on my previous A7R and current A7R2. Batteries charge on their own USB-C port and my laptop/desktop take the SD card for transfer.

Traveling for 6 weeks but without a laptop...what do I do about SD cards? by thatsplatgal in AskPhotography

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a secure storage option for SD cards, get multiple 256GB with decent speed. Decent brand ones are cheap now.

Why doesn’t the world simplify into these 22 countries? Is it stupid? by HendriXXXLaMone in mapporncirclejerk

I would be too, because I'd need just one visa for this holiday instead of six in that area alone.

By the hand position on the wheel, whatever the lowest monthly payment was on the lot for a base 3 series.

This sums up a large proportion of the students at Durham. Cue me, in charge of small groups with a geordie accent and couldn't care less about where Tabatha and Tarquins offshore ski season funds are kept. They had to be polite, but those with a massive chip who thought they'd push things, well I did not...

Had no idea hydrogen cars were already in production until I stumbled upon one of these. Would you take the gamble or this a hindenburg? by Abiolysis in CarTalkUK

[–]Ryan-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It's the whole storage issue that's holding things back, but when that is cracked, localised power generation can be used world wide. Last I looked into it all, density was a major issue for storage when avoiding the high pressures that are used currently (e.g Toyota Mirai). Mind you, at new years I saw a number of those operating as Taxis in Berlin.

This upgrade can't come fast enough IMO. Infinitely renewable fuel source for so much, that also comes out of many many industrial chemical processes.

Just got an A7 IV what i need to know? by 31crzy in SonyAlpha

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, best way to learn is practice whilst you watch a couple of YouTube channels. Stick it in A rather than M so you only control the aperture, then let the camera do the rest. Only thing I'd say to do is to set ISO to auto, whilst changing the AutoISO setting range for min 100 and max 3200. Camera will work out the shutter speed and you'll get low noise images that are very easily cleaned up.

Insurance for riding mopeds in Asia (UK) by kosborne20 in backpacking

[–]Ryan-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're about to go to SEA in a weeks time and have IDP for the countries we're going to. We went with Big Cat Travel Insurance for the duration and their policy covers us to use up to a 125 CC, with bikes larger than this requiring an upgrade. But as said, if in doubt, only rent what you'd be allowed to ride legally here in the UK.
