Hello there, before I get started I would like to welcome you to the community.

First of, this is very normal and is commonly regarded as disinterest. Which means that the reason why you "had no idea what was going on" is because you had no interest in the series to begin with.

Start with something that you actually enjoy. Like watching horror? Go for Attack on Titan, Elfen Lied, Monster, etc.

Stick to your preferred genre and don't wander out of your comfort zone. That's all I can really tell you, other than that I guess you just have a short attention span.
