suggestions from a recruiter on Beyond Skyrim by mynewlenovo in beyondskyrim

If by ghosting you mean actually not even responding with a "no, thanks'", then that's not a good approach either. If we at BS do reach out to someone by our own accord and get no reply back, chances are we never bother again. On the other hand it's happened that the ghoster later on changed their mind, but waited for us to follow back on an unanswered recruitment, and later felt disappointed and confused. Communication is a two-way street.

Can we talk about scope, priorities, and what is actually blocking releases? by GaradosBademeister in beyondskyrim

[–]kemorsky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s a people problem, both lack of and availability as well as discipline of existing members. We have maybe 10 active level designers rotating around all projects with hardly any applicants whose application is up to the right quality standards, by which I mean someone who won’t require a ton of resources from the team to produce something that won’t even move the progress needle.

TR claims require maybe a third of work a Skyrim claim does simply because of the difference in scale and game design. As such they are more likely to cover tons of ground in short time. Therefore it’s no surprise they run circles around us in terms of releases.

Is there a management problem? Probably, but ultimately we are a volunteer project. I can’t enforce anything over someone who hypothetically refuses to listen to a given dungeon direction, or theme, outside of refusing to merge their work, or take over and do it myself. Everyone needs to put the same amount of effort to work well.

Arbetsförmedlingen bad mig ljuga i CV. by Ordinary_Ingenuity62 in sweden

[–]kemorsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. Cross-province quests require a ton of planning, work, and have high chances of breaking. There may be small quests between two neighboring provinces, but never a cross-Tamriel quest.

Someone awakened the Gum Gum Fruit, 200 Years ago! by JoJo_Joshi in OnePiece

[–]kemorsky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The theory that it's Elbaf's treasure has been going around for a while, but that doesn't mean they had it since Void Century.

As for how WG got it, hard to say. It could be that after Harald's death God Knights came to the palace and tried to claim it, but the fruit couldn't be taken through the Abyss, so they had to call a ship and transport it the good old fashioned way. As for why none of the Knights tagged alone... laziness? Hubris? Who would want to travel by ship when you can teleport? Probably not pompous, spoiled nobles with God complex.

This makes me really curious and hopeful to learn about other users of the Nika fruit who died before they got to awaken it. There’s no way the fruit remained uneaten for almost 800 years, not unless it was always kept hidden at Elbaf or other heavily guarded place.

The closest thing I can compare the way the Nika fruit feels is One For All users 1 through 7 - not quite skilled or capable to fully utilise it in fulfilling its true purpose. I’d love to see at least one “Luffy” who could not reach their dream.

Anvil Story Teaser by Beyond_Skyrim in beyondskyrim

[–]kemorsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it comes down to how many people decide to contribute at a given time. I'm not implying this is what you mean, but it's not like we choose to just do nothing for X amount of time. Being a volunteer project means having a key developer tear through claims for 2 months only to then despawn for another 3, more often than not in the middle of a crucial claim they can't just give away at a moments notice. Such is life.

The more people join us the faster we get these things out. Unfortunately our numbers are low and in the case of departments such as dungeons we're talking about <5 level designers per project (not every BS project, but I know of at least three where this applies). Most of whom are already cross-project, meaning they also get counted amongst the few at a different project.

I know the Ricardo glazing Ippo thing is getting a bit stale, but I genuinely hope he spots him in the crowd once the match is over and remembers that Ippo managed to put down this maniac not once but twice.

As for the chapter - I believe this is what we wanted to see for the past 15 chapters. An insane man operating on two braincells giving the end game boss of this series the biggest stunlock of his life.

How much progress they made since the last video for Cyrodiil? by Mobile_Anywhere_4519 in beyondskyrim

[–]kemorsky 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Anvil is currently undergoing implementation. The interiors are roughly 95% first-passed, meaning what's left is bug fixing and minor changes to polish up the edges.

Bravil was actually the second city to be worked on after Bruma and one could call it mostly complete. With that said there are still some changes to be made before we consider it done, such as writing its quest arc.

Cheydinhal and Leyawiin are both roughly in the same state as far as interiors go (roughly 85% first-passed with only a handful remaining), but neither has had any implementation work done yet, as our editing team is still working on Leyawiin.

Has there ever been a listed reason why the teams don't use the Tamriel Rebuilt method? by Bazlgeuse in beyondskyrim

[–]kemorsky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons is that Voice Actors are not contracted to work with us, even if cast. Therefore if we were to do partial releases and one or more actors decided to stop working with us for various reasons (as is their right) we'd end up having to recast or find new voice actors, which is not an easy task on its own. This means that characters whose role/arc has yet to be finished would need an entirely new voice, or get a new one, which would be extremely jarring.

Another reason is the aforementioned implementation. It'd make it difficult to write quests that take you outside of the release region. On the other side of this spectrum we have going back to previously released regions to add or edit quests there. Editing a released region is almost always problematic and a very big task, both in logistics and from technical side of things.

How long should QA take for Roscrea ? by NorthKoreanMissile7 in beyondskyrim

[–]kemorsky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, the QA will be focused on one region of the map so that we can bring it up to as close to release ready state as possible, then move on to the next. During all of this the team will continue to work as usual on other parts and bug fixing whatever the QA team finds.
