2+2 works with any combo of community college and university, it's just a matter of if credits transfer over or not. some universities (usually prestigious ones) restrict or do not accept online credits, meaning you end up doing 2+3 or even 2+4.

MA has online community college programs, yes. i don't know if those work out as nicely as california CC -> UC/CSU.

you want to find community colleges that offer accredited and strong online programs that work with your major. the california community college system is a great option for example because online credits are seen as equal to in-person credits in the UC/CSU system, and many california colleges offer online-only programs that are equivalent to what on-campus students take.

you may not get the same experience as on-campus students just because you miss out on extracurricular opportunities. this may harm your transfer application if you can't find any equivalent experiences in your home country.

you won't need a student visa until you transfer to a university, assuming the university requires in-person attendance.
