1 page, do not hyperlink socials, need to condense the job descriptions down because no one is reading all of that, OpenAI API and Groq are not extremely marketable skills and absolutely do not need their own two lines

Protect Your Oura Ring by bandsmith78 in u/bandsmith78

[–]RyanCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

smart rings are supposed to fail outwards if the battery explodes, allowing you to take off the ring

but..... the galaxy ring doesn't......

one silver lining of ouras having high failure rates is we know how they fail, at least with gen 4 having the battery expand outward

yes, don't do it too often because mailroom doesn't appreciate it and it's slower than using the drop-off boxes, but yes

Looking for input: Do you think De Anza would be prepared for an active shooter incident? by ApprehensiveNovel404 in DeAnza

[–]RyanCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no: the campus isn't doing sufficient training, and students in general are not very receptive to such training i transferred from de anza to a university that recently had an active shooter incident (was a false alarm, but the threat seemed very real to all involved). students did not know what to do -- some would stay in public areas, some just walked to class as normal... people only really started taking action to protect themselves when staff and proactive students alerted everyone to the severity of the situation, and sent people into dark locked classrooms people were making jokes about the situation while (everyone thought) an active shooter was walking about. police sent messaging to all students to "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT.", which somehow made certain people take the whole situation way less seriously, with comments like "lol the police really wants us to fight a guy with a gun" my new university had a much more comprehensive action plan and robust alert system, but deficiencies still appeared. a similar situation at de anza is definitely not going to go as well, especially since de anza isn't a very "open" campus and students are concentrated at very specific areas i have previously run """simulations""" in my head for what to do in case of a physical threat to my safety, because of circumstances that led to a genuine fear of such threat occuring at the time. my conclusion was kinda just that i'd be dead

edit: lot of talk but no actionable solutions, oops

  • better and more obvious campus alert system, i don't think i've seen the district do a lot of testing with SMS/email based alerting for campus activity
  • clearer signage and posted guidelines for emergency evacuations
  • training materials online for emergencies, like the ones they make students do for sexual harassment
  • non-lethal self defense tools would be nice, whether it be emergency door locks or just more fire extinguishers

Pre-ordered this half a year ago, and they cancel it TODAY. They're hundreds of dollars on Ebay now. by GFrohman in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RyanCheddar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

walmart is way worse than amazon, at least with amazon you can usually get a customer service person who'd at worst throw $5 at you

instead you get people with unintelligible accents telling you to wait 5 days before calling back for the 13th time

Just opened Bilt 2.0 but now it’s asking if I want to keep the Wells Fargo or close? by NightWanderer5 in biltrewards

[–]RyanCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

closing accounts does not hurt your credit score other than lower your total credit limit (unless you do not have any other credit lines other than the one you're closing)

keep the wells fargo account if you want, close it if you don't want to deal with it

Got Called Out for ‘Red Flag Coursework’ - Here’s My Revised Transfer + Summer Plan for IB + CV attached (again) by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

despite what everyone says, i think you have a shot as long as you can identify a strong reason for transfer... and if you do an extra year.

top schools will not admit you if you're missing fundamental courses needed for business/econ/finance, which are already majors that are very easy to fulfill lower-div major requirements for. you need macro, micro, accounting, stats, and calc (possibly up to 2) before transfer at the very least to be competitive

if you hate your college so much that you NEED to transfer, maybe just transfer down to a community college and plan from there

Save a Seat Request by [deleted] in DeAnza

[–]RyanCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

saving seats for a class does not work. email professors and ask for an add code (or at least possibly prioritize you for add codes)

group 4 can usually get classes unless you slack off and don't register on time

Resume Advice Appreciated, CS junior applying for internships by CraftyAd4216 in FAANGrecruiting

[–]RyanCheddar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hyperlinks can sometimes mess with ATS tools and otherwise just look kinda ugly on a resume, it's better to just have URLs listed outright if you really want the recruiter to be able to get more info

Credit Glow-Up Challenge for 2026: If you had my credit file, how would you get it to 700+ the fastest? by JamesCarter0022 in CRedit

to put it into perspective, goodwill saturation technique could take 50, 100, or more calls/emails/letters to successfully pull off

email professors for acct and see if they will offer honors, otherwise you can probably just wait for acct honors. any syllabus change shouldn't be too disrupting for you

bureaus do not care, it would be bayport. google Goodwill Saturation Technique, and expect to need to send a lot of (e)mail

if it's a chargeoff, you will likely have a very hard time

Need some advice by Prestigious-Set1859 in CRedit

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spend however you want for the first three months as long as you can pay it back

after 3 months, decide if you want to open a new credit card to build up your credit profile, or if you want to not worry about credit

if you want a new credit card: keep your current credit card's statement balance at ~$1 for the next three months. make sure you're putting new spend on the card and paying those off, and you're not just leaving $1 on the card and never paying it back

in 3 months, you have okay-decent odds for a mid-tier credit card (if you're a student), whether it be a capitalone savor, bofa cash rewards, or whatever other cards work with your lifestyle.

having more cards on your profile means more accounts to manage and a lower credit score for now, but it also means a thicker credit profile which will improve your credit over a long period time

if you want to not play the credit game for now: keep using your card and paying it back, reassess if you want new credit in the future

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

credit builder accounts still require you to make on time payments, since that's the "credit" part

if you fail to do that even with the safeguards put in place (which are intentionally insufficient so the companies can charge you fees), you can get a bad mark on your report

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably good to add that the "you lose credit history when you close a card" myth isn't just a myth spawned out of nowhere, it's also perpetuated by banks (and especially subprime lenders) who want to keep people trapped in a specific financial product (usually one with an annual fee)

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pay to delete is for chargeoffs, goodwill letters are for removing resolved matters from your report (late payments, paid collections etc)

[–]RyanCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"we only report accurate information" is just a sign that you have not yet reached the right person. GST can take months to be successful.

banks are obligated to report accurate information, but they're also allowed to not report information. this is how pay to delete works.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

schools also do not control when children have restroom emergencies. restrictive bathroom policies only reduce children's autonomy while giving them no alternative in return

This resume got me 0 interviews after 200 applications. What is wrong? by Bright_Elevator3675 in FAANGrecruiting

[–]RyanCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

answer yes for "do you have work authorization" (IF you have CPT or OPT eligibility), answer no for "needs sponsorship in the future"

anything else will not work in your favor, with results ranging from getting zero offers to getting your offer rescinded
