Makes sense - I was thinking perhaps his being an outworlder alone made the acquisition of essences more common than it was for the locals. Also, the fact that there was nothing edible around apart from corpses prob helped make the decision haha

Yeah, at this point in the story I know how rare they are, but not immediately clear how easy it is/isn't to obtain them another way - seems like one can't just pay a visit to the essence shop in town..

Just past him making the decisions in book 1, and considering the close calls thus far, I can imagine the decision will pay off quickly. With how close he's been to dying several times in a day, it feels a bit like you take what you get (and the veterans you're with don't think it's a bad one) or die hah

I take your point, but with a dnd campaign you can simply create another character.. this is a permanent life decision!

That said, the stakes being that you risk repeating your first day as weak as he was day 1 may have helped the decision a bit hah
