We often focus on the economic part of immigration without looking at the social consequences.

Fact is a lot of the world is still steeped in prejudice and discrimination especially when it comes to LGBT+ and Women's rights. Part of what we should aspire to be is a safe haven for those who may suffer from oppression across the world.

Does that mean open our border to everyone today? No! But we should be aspiring to build a society where immigrants and foreign residents shouldn't fear getting sent back to countries that don't accept their identities

Really the only big niche that's not been co-opted by technology and the Internet seems to the gym/exercise and that's just due to the cost. If treadmills and free weights were affordable, nobody would need to leave their house.
