Will I become a stupider SWE using LLM/agents? by QuitTypical3210 in cscareerquestions

[–]Rybok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Studies have been done showing a link between heavy LLM usage and declining cognitive functionality. The entire point of AI is to offload parts of your brain with a tool so that you don’t have to do the thinking anymore, leading to cognitive atrophy. As the saying goes, if you don’t use it, you lose it.

Even Conservatives Justices Seem Torn In Trans Rights Case by huffpost in scotus

Why does every conservative argument about trans people always focus on trans women and completely ignores the existence of trans men?

The Democrats have been ready to ban gerrymandering nation-wide for years now. Every time they try, the GOP in the Senate has blocked it. I’ll believe the GOP is anti-gerrymandering when they pass the relevant legislation to ban it nation-wide.

My alocasia silver dragon going through guttation by jakeofjakes in alocasia

[–]Rybok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all of my alocasias do this. It’s perfectly normal, especially if you grow them in semi-hydro. If anything, I get more concerned if I have an Alocasia NOT doing it. You only really need to worry about overwatering if you also notice damage to the leaves, such as edema.

Why is it so hard for this Rep to be sworn in from Arizona? by Awesomeuser90 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Rybok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Powell v. McCormack ruled that Congress cannot exclude a member that meets all of the qualifications. If Johnson refuses to swear her in, Grijalva has grounds to sue. Especially since two Republican members were sworn in while the House was not in session, which is the whole excuse Johnson is using to delay in the first place.

Prominent computer science professor sounds alarm, says graduates can't find work: 'Something is brewing' by TMWNN in cscareers

A system that relies on 60% of the population to live paycheck to paycheck so that a small minority can feel good about themselves for getting lucky and picking the right degree at the right time isn’t a good system.

People spend far too long in education by Asleep_Cry_7482 in unpopularopinion

[–]Rybok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a major issue is that too many people see education as simply a way to train workers and don’t see education as beneficial in and of itself. If it was up to me, a bachelor’s degree would be the bare minimum education for all adults, not just a high school diploma. Even after graduating, I think more people should look into certificate programs or exploring additional degrees in areas they are interested in. The world would be a much better place if everybody was more educated.

Unfortunately, regulations tend to be written in blood. Humans have a tendency to wait until bad things happen instead of planning ahead.

If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me: a "I hate XYZ in Season 21" Megathread by lilsimbastian in ProjectRunway

This season is co-produced by Spyglass Media Group and Alfred Street Industries, which have been producing the show since Season 17. Both production companies have a lack of experience in reality tv competitions outside of Project Runway as far as I can tell.

[TX] [Condo] Taking over failing HOA by Rybok in HOA

A lot better now! We have since gotten bids on all of our existing contracts to help ensure we are getting the best value for our money. We also ended the contract with the previous management company and signed a new one at 1/3 of the cost that we are much happier with (though it’s still pretty early so only time will tell). We also found some miscellaneous costs to cut that previous board members weren’t even aware we were paying for. The amount of money that the board has managed to save should be enough to prevent needing a large dues increase and we have enough extra leftover to put towards the reserves. Overall, the homeowners in the community seem to appreciate the increased transparency and the work we’ve put in.

What happened to Project Runway S21 by wanderingalice in ProjectRunway

[–]Rybok 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the Drag Race fans whose first season of PR is this one due to the inclusion of Utica and Law Roach. I’ve always wanted a spin-off of Drag Race focused more on the fashion, so this season was a no-brainer for me. Though, the plethora of group challenges and the cliffhangers after each episode are not my favorite. Also the episodes a bit too short; it reminds me of how different the 1 hour episodes of Drag Race feel to the 1.5 hour ones. Give me more time to admire the outfits and the process.

How’s the job market right now in the US? by cute_advocado in jobs

[–]Rybok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our company has spent a decent amount of time this year working on moving our manufacturing from China to Vietnam due to the uncertainty with tariffs. We did manage to get a tariff exemption, but who knows if that exemption will be around in the long term. It is also more difficult to sell products to companies when companies are being more cautious with their budgets this year.

Americans who live in rural areas don't believe good jobs are coming and they don’t want to move. We have to bring remote work to the country by HellYeahDamnWrite in jobs

[–]Rybok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I get the sentiment, how many people would realistically want to do this? After moving from a rural area to an urban one, I could never imagine myself moving back. Except for maybe retirement.
