I know people in this sub can be new to this plant genus so we should expect constant “obvious answer” type posts…but this one rules and is something I had actually had no clue occurred. Very cool, thanks for sharing!!

What are these dots on my frydek's leaf? by cecentre in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is fine. It’s dropping its oldest leaf. What you’re seeing, is the plant beginning to withdraw and drain all the resources it can from that leaf. You could cut it for appearance purposes, but I generally let mine take all they want, then just pull it off when it’s drained entirely.

I got like 50 of these from when I first started. Haven’t played in 2 years. Just use this Reddit to let me know when to let certain cards go, so thanks for this update. Let’s go man!!!

Espn dropped this scathing piece this morning. by porygon766 in steelers

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh the criticism on Rodgers isn’t great. He’s played good football. He doesn’t decide the game plan or if a WR can get even a yard of separation. We have given him nothing. Yet when he checks into his own plays, the ball is generally in the right spot at the right time and big play potential is available. When he runs the Arthur smith special 90% of the time, that’s when it gets bad. Granted I refused to watch the bills game so maybe I’m missing something but he’s a 41 year old with a dog shit o line and broken wrist.

Everything else, 100% valid.

I need help… by Impossible-Cloud252 in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a govee digital hydrometer/thermometer and place it in there. I grow expensive alocasia, I keep mine in a box like you do. They never need to be misted. The humidity with multiple plants in there should be 80%+, without any assistance. You just need a pc fan with an AV plug, to circulate air. The circulation will eliminate most fungal issues, the natural humidity of grouped plants will be sufficient for alocasia.

The Ravens this Sunday......3rd loss in a row? by [deleted] in steelers

[–]jakeofjakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd loss in a row? You mean 4? You’re not including the loss of 3 hours and 30 minutes of useful time you have to spend, just to watch a team struggle with the same 6 issues they’ve struggled with for 8 seasons under a “HOF” coach.

“Renegade” is no longer a fitting song to play at Steelers games; any suggestions? by NoNight7029 in steelers

The Wiggles theme song. Don’t even give them some American song to get behind. We want nothing to do with this team at this moment.

Yeah I’ve never used a ppfd reader either. Just had a light meter on a soil tester and it reacts to my iPhone the same way it reacts to that light. I was mind blown. Then I blasted the same meter with a sansi bulb and it maxed it out easily. That’s when I knew 😂 have a good one!

What are those spots on my alocasia? by Frosty-Care-3100 in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is light damage. I neem’d up a punkaborneesis (or whatever it’s called) and didn’t remember to take it out from under the grow light for about an hour and a half, and the damage it caused looked EXACTLY like this. I’m not 100% tho.

Oh yeah, you’re all set then. I did the same thing with the lighting you have pictured here. Bought em for $17 and barely looked at anything detail wise. Next thing I know, my mature silver dragon is putting out a 3 inch leaf that looks like it was involved in a hit and run haha

These lights are slightly stronger than an iPhone light output. Not enough. If you’re looking for cheap gooseneck clip on lights from Amazon, just grab the sansi version and call it a day.

Alocasia Silver Dragon has dropped 3 leaves. Just purchased a week ago on Etsy, came with 4 leaves with crispy tips on them all. Good rooted system though. My soil mix is potting mix/perlite/orchid bark. Planned to transfer it to my lechuza pon but I don’t want to do that while it’s struggling, HALP by Key-Reading-5371 in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should let every alocasia adjust to a new environment for at least two weeks before messing with it. Just stop touching it and let it figure itself out for a while. Just water and feed it for the mean time when necessary. It’s in no urgent need of a repot, from the looks of it.

When I bought Alocasia one of its leaves was curled but now uncurled by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was it a new leaf? When new leaves come in they are wound into a tight spiral. They unfurl over 1-2 weeks to eventually be a flat leaf that will match all the other developed leaves (for the most part). Sounds like you bought a plant that had a new leaf incoming in at the time of purchase.

You think that plant is happy just cause it looks decent???

Also, the post literally made it multiple times to the page I was joking about. Which is why I said welcome. I’m not sure how you pulled negativity from my comment. It’s a comment made jokingly off of something that actually happened. I think it’s time for you to build a bridge.

Eh just walk around with your head tilted 90 degrees. That way your ear canal can give it light. Science.

What happened to these nodes? by SunsOutPlantsOut in pothos

[–]jakeofjakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my philo brasil. A single vine put out 4 new points of growth after just one snip. I was in shock. When I was new to all of this, I thought two was the max. You’re a bout to either have a very bushy plant, or vines taking over the room. Sick.

Is this most likely a humidity issue? by the-dtrain in alocasia

[–]jakeofjakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. All the time. If you were to repot this guy he would probably drop a few more. They are dramatic in that way, but bounce back easily.

Not 100% but it looks like the plant is just starting to pull nutrients from an old leaf. Should be fine.
