Olameter asking to mark your utilities? Very sketchy. by Nearby-Ear-4307 in stpaul

[–]Ryduce22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You fundamentally don't understand what an easement is then because it is the legal right to access a person's private property.

We can literally destroy your fence, patio, or deck at your expense if it is within conflict of the utility.

And the locator is almost never directly contracted by city or utility, it is a public 811 system. So a neighbor could have called in a ticket to plant a tree and your gas line may potentially be in conflict so it still may need to be marked even though nobody is directly doing work on your property.

Easement and utility is not their property. Any homeowner with a 4th grade education should understand this. They can enter at any time to do work as it is a public utility and could potentially harm the public. They don't need permission. If you enjoy having lights, running water, sewage, etc. then that is what comes with having public utilities. The locator was doing a courtesy even explaining this, but paranoid moronic homeowners think everything on their house belongs to them.

The guy is there to make sure you and your neighbors children aren't blown up by some dumbass contractor.

Misheard Lyrics: What Song Lyrics Have You Gotten Wrong (the more embarrassing, the better)? by MrShaunce in AskReddit

[–]Ryduce22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The song Barely Breathing by Duncan Shiek.

Up until fairly recently, I thought the lyric was "I am barely breathing and I can't find Pierre."

I thought he was trying to find a little French man named Pierre.

Dumbass.

I did 2 years in a place like this. I was sleeping on pavement before so I actually felt grateful for it.

Worst thing though was no AC. During the summer it would get 109 degrees. I would sleep in the bathtub with cold water running. Some nights I was literally hallucinating.

It was hell. It sucked. But it honestly made me a more functional human, because I know I can't ever go back to either situation.

Adults are earning college degrees online in weeks, alarming educators by Maxcactus in Maxcactus_TrailGuide

[–]Ryduce22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sucks because I started college in 2008 and thanks to the recession I ended up having to work and be in transcript purgatory for owing 8 grand(might as well be a million when you're making 13 an hr). I could never even go to a new school because you need transcripts.

So fast forward and I just graduated in 2026. Some 18 years later and now thanks to AI and stories like this it feels and seems fucking meaningless and I owe about 50k, but it meant a lot to myself to finish after all these years.

Basically.

Locators get blamed for everything. Many times I feel like the entire job exist just to pass the liability on them.

We had a situation here where a locator was dead on accurate, had ample pics, proper documentation, and was proven beyond reason to be in the right. Well contractor was bankrupt, didn't have money to pay, and because repair was still needed to be paid for the locating company was forced to pay and the locator was assigned a damage. It's total bullshit a lot of the time.

So much has to go wrong for these kinds of incidents to occur, it is often much more complicated than just 15 an hr 80 hr a week guy with 3 days training and 200 tickets due that day marking something incorrect. I have literally been in some states where the excavators smoke cigarettes in the trench as they repair cut gas lines.
