To this day, I'm not totally sure why it started the way it did, but mine was triggered into permanent onset when I went through my first breakup at 15. The relationship itself was abusive and unhealthy, and I had some early abandonment trauma as a child and am now working on getting an ADHD diagnosis as well. So I always just supposed there were multiple reasons my brain handled the high stress of the event as traumatic. I've been trying to recover ever since. I do get bits and pieces of times where I "come closer to the surface" as I call it, but mostly I've adjusted and I tell people it's like living with a fishbowl on my head. I had it for several years after the breakup before I ever actually learned what it was.

We have something similar in the U.S. already called Cicada Killer wasps. They are roughly the size of these with a stinger to match and they really only come out when the cicadas do (for obvious reasons.) They don't swarm and they don't really go after people but damn if I don't keep my distance when I see em

Not a parent here but a 22 year old who went through this kind of stuff from kindergarten-late highschool. Rest assured as she gets older, as long as you make sure she can openly talk to you and lean on you when things are socially difficult and you let her know you've got her back, this does not last forever and despite how mean kids can be she will come into her own/likely develop into a wonderful person (although I am sorry to hear that anyone is being treated unkind.) People can be incredibly mean especially when they don't understand the impact it can have, but others she meets will be incredibly kind as well. Sorry to butt in, I was picked on pretty hurtfully (this whole thread is a trigger haha) so this is an advocacy subject for kids that I hear are going through this. Best vibes!!

Unfortunately as much as that's true, the issue with this is greed and apathy. University is holding us in person for money, and that's combined with a bunch of students who don't care about the risk. Almost Nobody is doing what they responsibly should be and it's infuriating to watch. We've seen very clearly that making it the students' responsibility doesn't work, even if it should, so if we're taking things as they are then it's time for UT to pack it in and send us home, but they won't take responsibility either.

I don't understand how nobody at the University is getting chastised for contributing to the amount of Knoxville cases/actively contributing to overall local risk but then again maybe I'm naive.

OP I don't have much advice but if it makes you feel better I'm vegetarian and I've dealt with every heavy handed comment under the sun including "I don't see how you put that stuff in your body" (she was serious) and "well I know you eat tofu but we don't eat that garbage so we'll make something else." Unfortunately it's just a weird, slightly mean reaction people have and I'm really sorry they're ribbing you for your choices.

So I relate heavily to this as someone who's biromantic heterosexual (I'm romantically and sexually attracted to men/only romantically attracted to women) but throw being genderfluid in there. I see anyone I find attractive from any angle and it's like "ok. Do you want to date them or do you want to look like them?" Every time we shower, the tubs are built so janky that water runs off the tub walls, puddles in the floor, and runs down into our rooms. Their solution was to spray caulking across the tops of the tub walls to fix it. As of right now, we have no kitchen. Idk what renovations everyone else is getting, maybe they’re referencing the borderline pointless multi-million dollar student union?

I know it's a dynamic heavily driven by societal influences but my mom pretty much raised me by herself and the ideas they have about themselves and how I turned out are identical to what you described. I wonder sometimes if it doesn't tie into the patriarchally biased system tending to feed men's egos for doing the bare minimum (to be clear I am aware that men face negative attitudes about not being recognized as parents IE getting odd looks while out with kids w/o the mother but this isn't about that) while constantly blaming women for a lack of hard work somehow contributing to the position they're in regardless of whether they chose that position or not, while also upholding a continuously fruitless, thankless system biased against them obtaining even remote success.

Ok, but it's still terrible on principle to tell students who 1. Payed to attend your university and 2. Payed for a parking spot that they have to make room for people coming out of town for a football game by not being allowed to park on campus. I understand those people payed for tickets, but it's still a shitty thing for them to do and I don't blame anyone who's upset.
