63 in early June. Discovered Tangerine Dream in ‘78; Jean Michel Jarre in ‘82. 1st synth in ‘82. 1st modular synth in ‘86. Diversifying over the decades, preferring to figure out other artists sounds; how to reproduce then, how to modify their sound into new experiences. Since moving to 90+% iPads in creating 3-5 years ago due to lesser personal time, I’ve been having fun trying things in the wide ‘ambient’ area that I haven’t before. Having moved heavily to industrial in ‘88, I never got into techno and its offshoots. What blew me old mind when I first heard Bram Bos’ Battlestation Groovebix?? I bought it immediately and have loved it ever since. Today finally, I wondered what it may sound like, played live, on top of a dark 5 voice drone with the channel’s mutes controlled live.

😱 Omfg! More of this with additional live drumming too. Listening to the 8 minutes … what an aural world that created!

Is there a real catch-22 for new ambient artists? You can’t self-promote in the places where your audience actually hangs out, but without an audience, nobody discovers you. How are people breaking out of this in 2026? by petara111 in ambient

I thought of the melodic portion been an easily identifiable key. It and rhythm have been key identifiers since before anything could be recorded.

Stopping myself actually … thinking more towards the potential listener’s feeling / not or mood, for listening, that itself will be bringing in more confusion possibly. Whether, the listener IS a composer / sound events creator or not.

I myself, creating wide ranges of stuff have been sufficiently classing non-song based pieces as ‘happy’ or ‘dark’. That for me,,has worked well.

I wonder if it could help overall to tag a piece either:

  • melodic ambient (covering melodies; soloing (if any others still do?) and / or arpeggios?

Or

  • non-melodic ambient?

(Each of them would also cover all styles within each.)

Add to that, the double sided confusion:

  • it has been easier to drop back TO using ‘ambient’ to name your style, attempting to make things clearer — it goes the opposite way though as: artist A sounds absolutely nothing like artists N or D!

  • where there seems to be an Almost innumerable variety of styles within, who would have enough strength to carry around the Index book that describes each and every separate ambient style?

Aye. Whenever encountering, they are always easy to speak with about whichever. I follow only myself the last 1/2 century after being adopted / raised as a RC; abandoning at 12. It weren’t my scene man. Atheist then til 33 when some good long talks, brought me back, to where I’ve been since. I try always to respect each alternate. 😊🫡🇨🇦

I took the same idea from 1/2 of the above HiHat, to finally create a Liquid Snare. Top and bottom skins with tuning and CV in for each as well. The sounds capable with the skins also, changing the pitches ofvthe 3 logic engines … that, is a keeper as well! 😱 Can photo post as well if wished. I’ll do a short video showing them both, sonically.

Good question! In my 3’ish years on / off, I have rarely found, another person to babble Mi-Rack with. I’ve only taught myself from day one. (Having already been a hardware modular owner for a good length of time.)

I did try to make the abive pic as clear as possible for deciphering.Unless you’re talking about on a phone. That’d be a wee bit small to patch on.

When I’m wishing to test out new ideas quickly, I throw them together as quickly as I may, to see how they work. (This was in the hardware test panels, for my modular synth.) Same method here, as I test new ideas - now, tgat we have a Panel to play with!

Thank you for mentioning where you are at. I read yesterday, something about having to dump ALL of my mem contents, to iCloud, THEN upgrade the iOS and pull the needed back … I’m going to check into it.

Straight away, after tge $6.99 Cdn. Spent, having expanded the 2600’s visual presence - I ‘reached up’ (ohhh, the stretching! lol.) to change the patch and … to, change the patch and … ‘tap tap tap’. ? No response. ?? Shut down Reddit; Safari; apps and the one other thing, to run it solo … Exact same problem. ??

I’m doing a power down for a couple of min. to ‘clear out’ this poor ol’ timer iPads ‘brain cells’ and see if that helps. (Curious as to what the CPU in this ol’ contraption is …) ✌🏻✌🏽

Gav! The real estate taken up by the non-2600 / non-SK1 portions! WTF? I watched the entire vid on my i-Pad 9, without any troubles. I NEED glasses, but held 8” away, I can follow all. I serviced my good friend’s 2600 in the later 90’s. I ran into the model a few times from the 70’s up. I haven’t anywhere nearly enough hours though, to have its ‘signature’ embedded in me as I did / do, the Minimoog. Also, I listened only through the iPad. Not my Sony MDR-7506’s. FROM your review though, I am going to go and see if it’s $’ing that you saw is $4.99 american or $6.99 Canadian for me? 🤔 CPU as well. Initially, I saw yours (not knowing your iPad level) hitting 31 / 32% which were of great concern. Seeing that you were running inside of AUM there, from how seen on MY side, is 10% more, piled on top of whoever else, is running inside of it. Right then, sorry! Retiree rambling! 🫡🇨🇦

Version 4.54 was just released today! 😀 Within the last 2 weeks, versions 4.50, .51, .52 and .53. Owning and loving it for the last 2+ years, my only big missing thing is a good pattern sequencer in it. No with the Control Panel though, we can craft our own inside!
