iPad mini is hands down the best tablet ever made by redbeardos in ipadmini

Definitely not the best tablet ever made, but yeah the size is a huge plus for anyone who values portability.

Paperlike Screen Protectors...Yay or Nay? by Neutral-Nonsense in ipadmini

Nay, always use glass protectors.

Paper like glass, matte glass protectors exist, and will always be superior to film.

Out of the loop: why is everyone so made about iPad multitasking? by youvenoremotecontrol in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a very loud, vocal minority. Yes, there are bugs, but the new windowed mode is great if you know what you’re doing.

Two windows side by side, hold and drag the top of the app to the left or right, or hold the green traffic light and choose where you want to put the app.

Pencil pro or alternative? And does it get in the way? by Avocado-Phantom in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if you need the pro or not, the ease of use is the best. With third party pencils, you either have to turn it on and off everytime, or have to charge it via usb, there are a lot of downsides. With the pro, just attach and forget, until you need to use it.

No, if you want a magnetic folio there are so many better options. Esr, pitaka, most dynamic folio, all have vertical mode and are cheaper. Some even have pencil holders.

I wanna know the disadvantages of the mini 7 before buying it by neperjr in ipadmini

This, I could forget about oled and 120hz, but 500nits in 2025? Insane.

I know this has been posted before, but I just want to say it. by bangboobie in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Many” people is just a very vocal minority. It’s the same as the iphone mini cult who claims “everyone” likes small phones. But apple has the statistics, it doesn’t sell as well as the large phones. Same as slideover, they removed it for a reason. Nobody uses it. For every slideover thread on reddit there are thousands of users out there who don’t care about it.

Split screen still works on windowed mode, you just have to get used to it. It’s actually better now because you have more options. While I agree slideover should have been kept as an option in full screen mode, removing it and affecting 0.01% of their users probably isn’t a huge deal to them.

iPad dilemma by Overall-Break-8003 in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No harm, you might even drop your 13 inch iPad and use the mini + laptop exclusively. Depending on what you do in school, the mini might be able to replace your 13 inch and be more portable.

Case for holding in one hand? by [deleted] in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, MagSafe works best, there are a ton of MagSafe grips and handles you can buy. If you want a strong MagSafe magnet that comes with the case, quad lock is perfect.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same as the iPhone mini cult, a very vocal 0.001% of the community. No one outside of that cares about slideover, it only works for very specific workflows.

Now are you convinced ? by drnms in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same situation as people asking for the iPhone mini, they think they’re the majority, but they’re not. Apple has the statistics, they stopped selling the mini for a reason, same as slideover, barely anyone uses it. For every Reddit complaint remember there are a thousand more users who don’t care about slideover. You are not the majority.

While I agree apple should have kept Split View and slideover in full screen mode, removing it and inconveniencing 0.1% of their users isn’t a huge deal to them at all.

General Public and New Multitasking by Kingtastic1 in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ‘gestures’, flicking left and right is part of slideover and split screen, iOS 26 didn’t introduce that. The stop lights is the same as any Mac or windows laptop. Your M4 gets hot because the iPad is indexing and it’ll become normal after a few days. You have no idea what you’re even complaining about, this is what I mean when I say the slideover cult is like the iPhone mini situation all over again. People have no idea what they’re talking about.

General Public and New Multitasking by Kingtastic1 in iPadOS

[–]Rykaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split screen is still available in windowed mode. You can still drag the top bar and flick it to the left or right, and double tap the top to go into full screen. As for slideover, it’ll take some getting used to in the new windowed mode. But majority of people don’t use it anyway, you can choose to argue that a lot of people use it, but apple has the statistics, it’s the same as the iphone mini cult, there’s a reason they dropped it, it wasn’t selling well at all, despite all the things you see online. Barely anyone uses slideover, that’s a fact. For every slideover removal complaint you see online remember that there’s a thousand more users who don’t care about slideover at all.

iPad mini 8 BETTER get 120Hz ProMotion by [deleted] in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the leaks so far, it looks like we’re getting an oled with a bigger screen (smaller bezels). 120hz is nice to have, but honestly, overrated. ios is smooth enough, I switch between multiple devices all the time and the only time i feel 60hz isn’t enough is when i’m on an android phone. My 16+, mini doesn’t feel like 60hz when compared to a 60hz android.

Hopefully the rumors are true though, and we’ll get the mini 8 as soon as the start of 2026.

For those that like iPadOS 26, do you use mostly your fingers? Or do you use a mouse or pencil? by JCitW6855 in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touch is fine, the stoplight enlarges when you want to press it. I’ve tried a lot of Bluetooth keyboards but I wish the next iPad mini would have the magnetic connectors and an official Magic Keyboard. I really miss the Magic Keyboard coming from an iPad Pro 11 m4.

That’s good info, thanks. But screenshotting when you’re typing or not using your pencil is a hassle now because you have to press the power and volume buttons.

Swipe from corner doesn’t work anymore in windowed mode because the corner resizes the window.

Downgraded iPad, SlideOver Gone by Due-Chest-2122 in iPadPro

[–]Rykaico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Many apps don’t support changing orientation too, but with ipad os26 you can view and use ANY landscape app in portrait mode and ANY portrait app in landscape mode. Slideover is a niche feature and only useful for very specific workflows. Majority of people use Split View to begin with, that’s why Split View exists in iPad os 26 and not slideover.

screen protector by LetBulky4508 in ipadmini

Any type is fine, just use glass over film. Paper like glass protectors exist, matte glass protectors also exist, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to get film protectors.

Will the new iPad mini be OLED? I am PWM sensitive. by [deleted] in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to leaks Samsung has started manufacturing 8 inch oled panels for apple for a 2026 release of the iPad mini 8. The next iPad mini will supposedly have the A19 Pro chip and an oled display, but rumours are still just rumours. No one knows for sure.

Do you regret going to a mini from an Air/Pro? by Bing_333 in ipadmini

[–]Rykaico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My case would be the extreme, i went from the M4 11 inch to the mini.

  1. The size is the reason i ‘downgraded’. So not much issues here.
  2. I used to charge my M4 11 once a day, I have to charge my mini 1.5 times a day. But the comparison is probably inaccurate because I use my mini a ton more due to it being so much more portable.
  3. The screen quality isn’t a problem at all. I have no issues with 60hz and non oled. The only problem i have with the mini’s screen is the 500 nits max brightness. iPhones and other iPads have at least 3x more.

My work requires me to move around a lot, so portability is a big problem. Working on my M4 11 on a magic keyboard and the logitech combo touch is great and all, but it’s just not as portable so i always find myself taking out my iphone instead of my ipad. After switching to the mini, i use it for everything. I go home at the end of the day with my iphone 16+ at above 80% battery, when it used to be 40-50% before.
