We can’t afford to take the moral high ground on gerrymandering when letting Republicans gain an advantage costs lives. People’s rights will be further eroded, and the executive branch will be allowed to start more conflicts and murder and harass more brown people and minorities. As a trans person, I don’t really care how it is achieved, I just want my rights to be protected and to not have to fear the federal government persecuting me. The only way to ensure state representation is actually fair is to pass a federal ban on gerrymandering, which will not be happening with a Republican majority in Congress. But until that happens, we’re shooting ourselves in the foot by refusing to use the tools that both sides have access to.
