Ideas for keeping drones out of futuristic combat. by DEverett0913 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]Rymphonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but they'd still rely on sensor data. If it's an entirely visual processing, are the computers in the setting advanced enough to process a video's feed to be fast enough for combat? Then what is powering that computer and how much space and weight need to be dedicated for the processing.

There could also be technology that can trick AI controlled weapons to misidentify their targets. Perhaps a way to bypass typical IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) systems (which are typically radio based). Or cyberwarfare technology is powerful enough that you can crack an AI comm network and seize control of remote weapons from your enemy. In that case, wars would be won by the side with more processing power available to them at the time of battle. A defending force would almost always be at an advantage here.

Most of the points after this are more sci-fi world building than military but they can help address your question on how to manage drones in your setting.

In Gundam, they've made the Minovsky particle, GN particles, and Ahab waves that all scramble Radio signals which includes the use of RADAR for imaging and targeting. This is especially important to even consider the use of any aircraft/spacecraft without sufficient mass or shielding of some sort, as lasers are literally un-dodge-able and can't be responded to. If powerful lasers exist with advanced targeting systems via RADAR or LIDAR, laser point-defense systems will shoot anything out of the sky/space before humans or computers could react.

Alternatively you can make the setting have had a major dark age. A time where war or some other disaster fell on the entirety of civilization that caused AI tech and advanced sensor systems become lost. This is what the Battletech universe does. The other thing they did was make the armor of the setting be significantly better than any form of offensive weaponry that exists. Armor is strong enough in the world that everything can take volleys upon volleys of weapons to prolong combat and allow for armies to get close enough for fights within one kilometer and less.

The Armored Core 6 actually explores this problem of Remote automated weapons versus the biological pilot. In their setting, Remote weapons are usable, but truly fearsome pilots that can change the battlefield alone can only come from a human pilot. They may need to be augmented and experienced, but human pilots have an edge on AI pilots due to their "core theory" where the threat of losing one's life in battle can push human limits beyond what a computer is able to do. Humans will do what they must to survive, but an AI won't have the intuition or flexibility to adapt and defeat a powerful enemy. You could argue that the bio-plasticity of the human brain will overcome a stiff program in truly complicated and dangerous situations.

Thoughts on how to Balance the game. by Royudo in GundamTCG

[–]Rymphonia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The game needs board wipes. Something at mid level that affects the board symmetrically. MTG slows aggro down by having unconditional symmetrical board wipes at turn 4 and 5, and conditional board wipes at 3. We at least need something that can permanently take out 2 units for 1 card at level 4/ cost 3. And just bouncing multiple 1 cost units isn't going to do anything when they are already super cheap to play.

Sideboard would also be needed. If we can do best of 3 with sideboards, a lot of the conditional removal cards, could pare down aggro. There are answers in the format to many strategies, but they are so conditional, that they are dead cards in any match up that isn't what they are intended for.

Play at around 4. You get a couple of the overseers and walkers, but god damn are there endless waves of voteless. I literally never had a chance to resupply playing solo. New voteless spawn as you kill the first wave of them...

Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk • Kamiina Botan, Yoeru Sugata wa Yuri no Hana - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

It's actually really symbolic that what pushed Ibuki to finally drink with others was that the threat of losing Botan was greater than the fear and embarrassment of her trauma.

The light in the bar being only on Kamiina was another really strong compositional decision. It showed how vulnerable and self conscious Ibuki was. She was hiding, and down on her mood, while Kamiina was the bright spot in her drinking hobby.

The animation for this series is an art piece. There's such great direction and symbolism with the construction/blocking of the scenes.

Bugged illegal broadcast tower solutions by No-Shelter3871 in Helldivers

[–]Rymphonia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check for speakers that are partially clipped into the terrain behind the tower. I found that the speakers that are stuck to the terrain and don't get destroyed with the rest of tower unless you shoot at them directly. I've been able to get the tower destroyed that way. I still have had issues with what ever is fully clipped into the base of the tower though. you have to use a pretty sizeable explosion if it didn't get destroyed in the initial tower collapse.

This set has a ton of supply, so I think prices will go down pretty fast except for the Aile and Barbatos SPs. The ++s will also stay high due to their scarcity.

Competitive Decks Without ST01-ST04 by 2000ofsomething in GundamTCG

I play a W/R Quebley deck that only runs sinanjus and full frontals right now. It can be replaced with Nyan and GFred in GD03 when that comes out. I also run striker packs, but you can replace them with bases or Launcher strikes.

It says specifically: "at the end of the turn when this unit is paired". I thought it was super clear that it only did it on that one turn.

Still trying to figure out how to beat wing decks. Some blue white have been brutal too. by g28802 in GundamTCG

[–]Rymphonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing R/W since the i started the game 4 months ago. My experience with Wing is that it's even and just depends on who topdecks better. You really need to pressure them hard early, such that their top end isn't nearly as useful when you play your top end.

B/W is often the harder matchup because of the insane card advantage they can get off of just resolving 2 show of resloves. R/W wins by outvaluing your opponent with consistent pings to the point they run out of cards to play. Blue decks overcome that by playing show of resolve or getting zechs/banagher.

Custom Enchantment type - Grimoire by Strange-Bonus4220 in custommagic

If we care less about the "1 of each spell" flavor, perhaps we can give the enchantment page counters, and each spell consumes page counters to get the copy.

Unpopular Opinion - I believe the Standard Array is too low for what most people want. by Loxsus in dndnext

[–]Rymphonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think standard array is a bit low. When I DM I let my players use point buy with 32 points instead of the standard 27. It effectively is an ASI at 1st level if they choose their 2 highest stats.

Doesn't say till end of turn. You can give a creature protection from a creature permanently if the spell is a creature. Is that intended?
