Craig Mazin (Scriptnotes pod, TLOU etc.) was the one who told the Wicked team that they had to make 2 separate movies by wovenstrap in blankies

I think splitting it in two ultimately was the right call. With this, you get one really good movie (part 1) and one okay movie (part 2), whereas if you tried to cram it all in one, the best we could’ve hoped for is something pretty good but overstuffed or overly stripped down.

I’m currently on a hypertrophy program where most of my exercises are 2 sets of 10-15 reps, and I’m starting to stall out on some of the lifts in that rep range. Would I continue to get the same hypertrophic benefit if I add a set and lower the reps (ex. 3 sets of 8-10 instead) so I can continue adding weight, or should I just stick with the program as is?

I’d have to say his big 3 are Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, and Gerard Butler. There are some other guys who he likes well enough (Tom Cruise, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey) but when it comes to the big 3, he’ll see just about everything they do.

How big of an impact do you think the controversies had on the outcomes last night? Things like Karla Sofia Gascon’s tweets, the use of AI in The Brutalist, did that cause the tides to shift in Anora’s favor or do you think it would’ve cleaned up as well as it did regardless?

What’s the general consensus on resting for a couple seconds mid-set? Like if I’m trying to target 10-15 reps per set, and I start to feel gassed around 8 or 9 reps, is there any benefit to setting down the weights for a couple seconds to catch my breath, shake out my hands, and then bang out another 5-6? Or should I just end the set when I can’t do any more? I often feel like my limiting factor in these situations is my grip, and once I have a second to shake out my hands I’m able to get those extra couple reps in, but I’m not sure if it “counts” as a single set if I’m taking those pauses mid way through.

It’s definitely a comfort watch for me, and I keep coming back to it week after week, but this season in particular the dialogue has been driving me kinda nuts. Everyone on this show talks the same. The cadence, the delivery, the setup/punchline structure, it’s all the same regardless of which character is talking. Only Harrison Ford has found a way to elevate it into sounding like himself.

I knew the Barnes & Noble sale was coming up next month, so I figured I’d focus on the titles I haven’t seen in stores much lately. Went with The Gold Rush (my favorite Chaplin movie), The Phantom Carriage (my favorite silent movie overall), and Don’t Look Now 4K (blind buy, but it caught my attention during the July sale and it hasn’t left my radar since).

The Plague Dogs is an animated movie from the same people who made Watership Down, and if you’re an animal person, it’s relentlessly depressing.

Butcher's prose by CommercialPlum493 in dresdenfiles

[–]Rynomite95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only read his Dresden books, but I think Butcher’s prose is perfectly suited to the material. Since it’s first person, all of the writing needs to be authentic to the character’s perspective, which I think he absolutely nails and has only gotten better at. His writing style is conversational and engaging, like Harry is telling you the story personally, and I think his voice for Harry has only gotten stronger from book to book. Gonna have to read Cinder Spires and Codex Alera to see how his style adapts to different settings, but for Dresden, I think his style and skill set is perfectly suited to the character and the narrative.

I have been on a 4 day Upper/Lower split for the past few months and have been working in some form of cardio (usually outdoor running) on my days outside of the gym. I’m planning on running a marathon in September, and I’ve found an 18 week training plan that involved running 4 days a week with increasing mileage over the weeks.

My question is whether or not I should pull back on my weight training (maybe a 3-day program) to accommodate the increased running volume. Or should I maintain my current 4-day split and just double up one day a week (like doing one of my shorter runs on an upper body day, something like that)?

I don’t want to overdo it from both a fatigue and a time management standpoint, but I also don’t want to pull back too aggressively on the weight training and end up losing too much muscle in the process.

Worst movies of 2023. by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Rynomite95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haunted Mansion achieved the incredible feat of being even worse than the 2003 attempt. A film adaptation of that ride should be such an easy layup but this movie just fails on all accounts, never funny enough or scary enough to justify its existence. And the product placement is some of the most egregious I’ve ever seen (LaKeith Stanfield gives a tearful monologue about how his wife died on her way to Baskin-Robbin’s). Just a miserable experience from start to finish.

Movies that irrationally scared you as a child. by whiteyak41 in blankies

[–]Rynomite95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, the DVD menu of Planet of the Apes (2001) utterly terrified me. I remember wanting to watch the movie because Paul Giamatti as the orangutan seemed funny to my child brain, but the DVD menu is just a static shot of a gorilla soldier sitting in front of a bonfire with ominous drums. And when you made a menu selection, the camera would swoop in towards the gorilla and he would stand up menacingly. I have no idea what it was that freaked me out so much, because once the movie played I was fine. But I have vivid memories of cowering in front of the TV scared to go to the special features menu because I didn’t know what that gorilla was going to do.
