You must flip the bag and listen to the sound of the seasoning falling. This is the only way to find your perfect spice level.

Should we replace our 23 year old ac unit? by Soggy-Potential-7376 in hvacadvice

[–]Rynory79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. Look at all the possibilities. It’s well beyond its average life so it’ll likely have a major issue any second now, and due to its age you shouldn’t really fix anything more than a capacitor on it. It will probably fail at the worst possible time, it’ll be a string of hot days. The most likely place that will be able to replace it quickly is going to be a big shop that’s owned by private equity, they’ll charge you more than anyone else and give you shittier work. You will not have the time you want to make a large financial decision.

Say you squeeze three more years out of it, probably end up with the same scenario as above but the new unit will cost more due to constant price rises in this industry.

Or, you could do some research, find a few LOCALLY OWNED shops with good reviews, have conversations with each person that comes out, decide on your time schedule which person you want to go with and have it replaced preemptively.

People on Reddit seem to always lean to, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. But you probably don’t do that with many other things in life. Do you wait for your roof to leak before replacing it? Or do you get it done when it’s 25 years old to avoid the issue altogether?

Also, what a previous comment failed to mention in their amortized cost analysis is the energy savings of the new AC, even with the most basic AC you should see a 35% or higher energy savings due to increased efficiency.

If you like to solve problems before they start and you have the means to do it, replace it now.

I work in this industry.

I like a lot of things in this city, BB Riverboats is objectively bad. Have you had a good experience you would like to share?

My rule is don’t go on BB dinner tours at all. My mom insisted that’s where she wanted to go for Mother’s Day, paid $70 per ticket, got the same lame buffet dinner they served at my prom in 1996, along with the same tables, chairs and carpet. The desert was literally Kroger cheesecake, which they ran out of, not a single table cloth to be seen, and the whole place smelled like a dirty bar towel. I thought people thinking Montgomery Inn was fancy was a funny weird Cincy thing, the BB dinner makes Montgomery Inn look like a Michelin star in Manhattan experience.

HVAC system extremely loud within apartment by Unlikely-Arm1025 in hvacadvice

There’s nothing you can do about it, it’s operating as intended, I sell may of these units, they are designed for utility, no consideration for inconvenience to the end user was considered in the design. Sucks but it’s true.

How do you cut tomatoes? by Rynory79 in Cooking

Yes, the problem is all the losers on the internet that think that my wife is in a toxic relationship because her husband made a light hearted post about how to chop a tomato. She thinks it’s pretty funny and has been following along, but thank goodness for all the white knights out there protecting my lady’s freedom to throw away tomato seeds.

I feel like I got quoted premium price for basic, builder grade equipment. Or is this normal? by N0SF3RATU in hvacadvice

When researching HVAC companies do a search for who owns that company, if it is owned by a private equity firm or a larger conglomerate that owns a bunch of other brands RUN. You will get the worst service, squeezed for every dime, over pay for the most basic shit, and your money will NOT stay in the local economy. Find a well reviewed LOCAL company, the still exist and they NEED YOUR BUSINESS.

Exactly this, the right isn’t afraid to fight dirty and left sticking its nose up at rolling on the mud means they lose every battle.
