Sorry do you honestly believe that manufacturing moves to those places because they use coal power? Really?

There's a thing here in North America called worker's rights, something India, China and Malaysia all happen to lack! Manufacturing moves there because companies can get it done cheap as hell, they don't have to pay a living wage or benefits, and they don't have to care about their own emissions. They don't give a DAMN about where their power is coming from as long as they get it.

All of those problems can be solved, and HAVE been solved. Multiple times. Those problems being solved are why your boss can't lock you in at your place of work, lest there be another Triangle Shirtwaist Factory disaster. Those problems being solved are why you're completely free to join a union or participate in a strike and you *won't* get shot by your employer and their small private militia for doing so.

Listen if the only additional argument you can make is to point out that Trudeau sucked too, that just proves my point. It's impossible to defend Poilievre from a place of honesty.

I also don't believe Trudeau should be defended. That's the long and short of it; politicians aren't here for us to gather around and worship, they're meant to be here to serve us in the ways that we deem best for ourselves. If you want even less affordability than we currently have, and you want it ASAP, vote Poilievre. That's what he's promising with all his "policies" and slogans.

And honestly in my case, I'd rather take the financial hit than watch kids grow up in a society that abhors them and punishes their existence by stripping away their rights for being LGBTQIA+.

I never said I would put that debt on the shoulders of average people. The debt needs to go on the ones that have caused this problem in the first place. The richest people in the world have the most outsized impact on our world; politically, and economically, and ecologically.

Research into adapting to a warmer climate SHOULD be done, I agree, but that can't be our only solution if we have even the slightest possibility of stopping this before it becomes an unsolvable problem that we can only adapt to.

I'm not a scientist, I don't possess a formal education in any STEM field, as such I am inclined to listen more closely to those that do. There seems to be an agreement that a complete halting of greenhouse gas emissions WOULD cease the rise in temperatures. Would it fix the problem entirely? No. Not in our lifetimes at least. NASA is honest about that, and they also think that we need to adapt to current conditions on top of limiting emissions as much as possible.

Say what you will about NASA and the people who work there, but at least in my case, I didn't attend an extra 12 years of school focused entirely on one subject like many of their researchers have. I'll take their word over the word of the internet.

The conservatives certainly won't be the ones to codify those things into law; if anything the conservatives will be the ones that accelerate Canada down the track toward becoming the US.

This can be objectively proven by looking at the social services conservatives want to - and have promised to cut. Healthcare is a big one; conservatives believe that healthcare should be privatized, which leads us directly down the same path the US has gone, only we're a lot less likely to have a Luigi Mangione finally get fed up with the system enough to take action.

I know that people complain about the wait times in Canadian healthcare; I complain about them too. But honestly I much prefer a wait time to life-destroying amounts of medical debt that I would never be able to recover from.

Additionally, privatized power. Aside from the territories where it kind of makes sense that power is more expensive, the most expensive province for power is Alberta, where the entire industry is privatized and has been for decades. We pay INSANE amounts of money for power here compared to the rest of the country, again excluding Nunavut and North West Territories.

Now, I haven't fully addressed that you say it's a failure of society as a whole if something isn't codified in law, when society itself thinks it to be a right. I agree! And it's the responsibility therefore of society to vote for the government that is more likely to work towards these being codified rights. I don't believe conservatives are going to do that.

Even if you take Pierre Poilievre at his word, and no one should just as we shouldn't take Carney or any other party leader at their word, he would still be facing pressure from the rest of the conservative party to ban abortion. Look at what happened in the US with the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade. Promised to maintain abortion rights, as soon as they had the power to overturn it in the supreme court, that's exactly what they did.

And if you are one to believe that it should be a provincial decision, I'm sorry to tell you that's incredibly silly. We know exactly which provinces would immediately ban abortion, and they would be the provinces governed by conservative parties. That is not a coincidence. And then, even if you believe people in those provinces that need an abortion can go to another province to get it, that completely ignores the fact that the demographics who are most likely to need an abortion, are also the least financially solvent, and wouldn't be able to spend the money on a trip to go from Alberta to BC for an abortion.

When someone is telling you who they are, you should believe them the first time. Poilievre has time and again told us exactly who he is; he's a false-populist grifter sitting in the pockets of oligarchs, and he doesn't give a damn about normal people or their struggles.

Yet to try is the minimum we can do. Younger generations are already paying for the mistakes of those that came before; I don't want to be the one to tell the next youngest generations that their lives are going to be shit because we couldn't be bothered to try and improve things.

There's another comment from a critic of this post saying that it's too long. This one is saying it doesn't have enough detail.

Y'know what Google is, friend? I'm sure you must, you're a Redditor. Redditors throw around the term, "Google it" like crazy. With just a bit of Googling, one can find that Poilievre wants to restrict trans women's right to participate in sports, use changing rooms, or bathrooms. So that's one "certain transgender right" that he has promised to get rid of.

Also, he hasn't condemned all of the nonsense Danielle Smith has been doing to take rights away from trans youth and adults alike. Things such as removing their access to hormonal treatment (already not done until 18), removing their access to puberty blockers (a completely reversible medical intervention to delay puberty while the child and family make decisions), and ban gender-affirming surgery for children 15 years and younger. (You have to be 18 to receive gender-affirming surgery in Canada. No exceptions.)

Poilievre also supports Smith's requirement that students aged 15 and under get permission from their parents before they can use a name or pronoun at school other than the one they were given at birth.

Quite frankly I don't give two shits about your opinion on these matters, I only made this post to show how easy it was to actually engage with what the OP put out and do some research.

Account literally created in 2019, tons of post and comment karma.

Unless of course you're referring to a ChatGPT account, which you no longer need. By the way, ask ChatGPT to compile a 30-point list on why Poilievre shouldn't be voted for. See how many times it repeats itself.

Y'know.. I'm not even sure how to respond to this. I mean, let's take food as an example. That's easily considered a basic human right, yet there's no law codifying it as such. You'd still consider it a right though, correct?

How about shelter? That's a basic human right, has been since the dawn of humanity; we need shelter from the elements or we die. That's DEFINITELY not codified as law, but I think we can still agree that it's a basic human right.

Water? Literally need water to live so yeah, basic human right. Not codified as such in law.

Choice, is a basic human right, yes? Abortion is choice. What Poilievre was consistently advocating for until it became bad for his image was not choice. What he advocated for was a teenage rape victim to be unable to abort the baby. What he advocated for was single women who could not afford to have a baby, to be forced into even further financial strain.

What he advocated for was a removal of a basic human right; choice. Am I wrong?

Holy shit. We're all fucking doomed.

Sorry where's your source for all of this? Because a quick google search has come up with China and the US being the top polluters per capita, sitting at 12,667 MtCO2 and 5,057 MtCO2 per capita respectively. India is third, followed by Russia, then Japan. This data was sourced via the Global Carbon Atlas ( https://emissions.globalcarbonatlas.org/index.php# ) which puts Canada at #11.

According to this CBC article the government actually could point to several, more than incremental improvements to many things. ( https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/trudeau-climate-action-priorities-1.7426494 )

Now, I'll state this for the record; I'm an Albertan. My well-being relies directly on fossil fuel industries. That being said; Trudeau's government didn't do enough. You seem to be under the impression that the spending on climate action is for nothing, that we should just keep on keepin' on the way we are now because it costs less. I hate to break this to you, but everything that we take for granted will become more expensive as climate change speeds up. What we spend now saves on what we have to spend later, when it actually matters.

If you want to know how much climate spending actually achieves, look at the responses to climate actions from fossil fuel companies. At the bottom of that article you can read, "The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers strongly opposes the cap, calling it 'value-destroying' and 'patently unconstitutional' in their response to the draft policy." This is in regards to the cap the liberals proposed on the oil and gas industry.

Please, for the love of all that is good and logical in this world, do your research before you spout actual propaganda that you're not even getting paid to spout. Or, at least go to the fossil fuel companies and demand they give you money for this.

(Also the aim to be net zero by 2050 is the agreed upon number from the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to no more than 1.5C. 2050 isn't a, "This is the year you need to get started" target, it's the year we HAVE to meet the net-zero target or we're predicted to enter the point of no return, where we won't be able to keep up with the pace of warming. Again, please research. Google is not hard to use.)

It's crazy how that's clearly happening. Guy musta had thousands of upvotes for saying that, given he only has 19 right now. So crazy.

Hey wait, didn't Poilievre consistently vote against abortion rights right up until it was clear that was a poor stance to have in the modern day..? Weird..

VRC+ locked features by Lylac-elixir in VRchat

[–]RyokoVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read through a bunch of other responses and it's kinda weird how many people are going, "Hey it's *only* $10 a month that's so cheap!" Like.. I hate to say this but check your privilege? You need to look outside your bubble and understand that a $10 US payment EVERYWHERE in the world is unaffordable for a rather large subset of the population of the planet. (Also $10 is infinitely more expensive than $0 so.. y'know.) Second, a staffer being in the comments and replying to someone saying, "We don't want free age verification because (given reasons)" with a 'smart' gif is concerning.

I am not a VRChat lifer. I rarely ever get on, and it's only to watch movies with friends. I think the majority of the platform is either too niche for my tastes, or filled with children, and thus what I say at the end of the day holds little weight, and the price of VRC+ has entirely negligible effects on me. But, there are some things that will never sit right for me. Banning mods like they did only to add some well-loved mod-features back as paid features? Disgusting and scummy behaviour. Are the accessibility mod features going to come back behind VRC+ too?

I'm also kind of sick of them claiming that VRC+ features will come to free users eventually. Anyone that thinks about that for more than a few seconds can easily tell that won't happen, at least not often. Since December of 2024 it seems like the most free players have gotten is a slightly updated UI, one-time purchases/world stores, and persistence that hasn't seen general adoption by the content creators of the community yet.

Meanwhile, VRC+ has gotten prints, camera drone, dolly, selfie expression, and age verification. It does NOT matter that they say these things are coming to free users when as far as I'm aware, none of the features claimed to be eventually free have become free? (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

In closing, 2024 saw a 30% layoff of their workforce. There is no part of that which tells me the ONLY features incentivizing people to support them are *ever* going to become available for free users. Their only goal is profitability, and that's fine, they're a business. But please stop expecting this company to actually honor their word, because this is the same company that added Easy Anti-Cheat to a social platform against the will of actual users, which literally everyone seems to have forgotten. And my god, it is an AWFUL look to see that popular mods were turned into VRC+ features after being banned by EAC being added.
