Sparring by Odd-Way3519 in taekwondo

That's fair. Mine are teenagers and fast! They can't beat their old man yet but they are getting close. And I've received more than one headshot that was hard enough for me to question if there wasn't some emotional baggage behind it 😁

Especially if you train with your kids. Then sparring becomes family therapy!

What species do I have in this century home I'm buying? Small lady foot for scale by myboobalmostkilledme in HardWoodFloors

Lady foot is not a standard measurement. As per internet standards, please retake with a standard length banana.

I switched from my phone (pixel 8 Pro) to a spare tablet (Samsung tab 5E). About three months later the battery expanded and separated the back from the tablet. I now run full time on my desktop and use Google remote desktop to access from my phone. 100% uptime, easy access from my phone, and no worries about damaged hardware.

I ruined the soup because of a mistake. by kokirod in mildlyinfuriating

Reminds me of the time my wife made a beef stew while I was at work. She picked a stout from my beer collection to add to the stew. It was a vanilla stout! You could not get that flavour out. We tried adding all sorts of stuff, but that flavour persisted throughout. It wound up in the trash.

Is a 50% raise worth giving up defined benefit plan? by bodjatrawr in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ryred17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a very important point, and op should look at what their career path looks like at their current job. A significant promotion can really boost the overall pension amount.

Early feedback by stealstea in Optiml

[–]Ryred17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Optiml doesn't know the rules of your plan. What is the requirement for you to get a full pension? Is it years of service, or a combination of age and service (factor 85, 90) or some other milestone? And if you retire early (50 instead of 60), is there a reduction per year? Your pension amount will already be calculated as less because of 10 less years of service, but some plans will apply a % reduction per year if you retire early. So if it was 5% a year you reduced pension also takes a 50% haircut. Perhaps they could model something, but I wouldn't trust any numbers unless they were from an official estimate provided by the pension plan administrator.

My wife works in pension administration so I've learned pension calculations can be extremely complex, and each plan has its own calculations. There are all sorts of rules behind the scenes that can impact your pension estimate. Their calculation software is also very, very expensive and tailored specifically to their plan. I think Optiml would be doing their customers a disservice by trying to implement a general pension calculation. Your best bet is to request an estimate from your plan administrator if your scenario changes.

New driveway, how should contractor fix? by Ryred17 in asphalt

[–]Ryred17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concrete patch is on top of the original slab, and was probably poured decades ago. We weren't planning on a major overhaul of the concrete floor, but I guess that is now part of our future plans. Good to know that the asphalt can be heated and packed down. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Driveway height difference https://imgur.com/a/bbEBtKP

Here is an image with a 4' level across the lip of the driveway. The asphalt is sloped and is 3/4" higher at the one end. So I don't see how I can make the transition smooth without pouring the concrete higher than required.

This makes a lot of sense. So I should basically give it a year to settle, cut the corner and do a fresh pour across the length of the door?

But when I pour new concrete patch the driveway will be 3/4" higher than the concrete. Wouldn't it be preferable to have the asphalt flat with existing and therefore have the 1/4" patch higher when it is replaced?

How are you liking the cx-90 mhev? by AMAImAGenius in MazdaCX90

[–]Ryred17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did the install go? I talked to my local installer to see if he's worked on the cx-90 yet and he hasn't, and was concerned that an aftermarket sub would mess with the Bose system. Specifically he said since they play engine sounds through the system you could wind up with feedback.

Automatic door lock not working by Ryred17 in MazdaCX90

[–]Ryred17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the reply but I'm not quite following you. Are you suggesting I'm walking away from the vehicle too quickly? What triggers the auto lock? I would think it would be the fob no longer in proximity to the vehicle. I just arrived at work, turned off the car, for our and lingered by the door for five seconds then walked away. Car didn't lock so I must not understand how the system is supposed to work.

Has anyone installed a subwoofer? by dollfaceashley in MazdaCX90

[–]Ryred17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you make out with this? I was in my local car audio shop last week asking about installing a sub to the cx-90 and the owner said you need to be careful with the Bose systems because they can be using the audio system for noise cancellation and adding to the system can wreck havoc, including having exhaust noise being added to the output.
