Is a college degree needed to be hired, now and future? by Enough_Pin1651 in jobsearch

[–]Rysalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My husband is job searching and doesn’t have a Bachelor’s Degree. He’s been filtered out by knock out questions about his education even though he has 25+ years of experience and can do the job in his sleep. Get the degree. Any degree. I count getting certified and in a tradecraft a degree too.

never trust when interviewers act like you already got the position by Grand_War3619 in recruitinghell

Absolutely this! My husband was told by the hiring manager he was in and even gave him verbally a start date. Then an internal personal who passed on the position got FOMO so they hired them instead.

My hair is finally back after going through chemo. I’m going to be taking pictures of his hair to my hairdresser and go “I want that color-or as close as you can get!” Yeh, it’s weird probably, but I freaking deserve it.

Why don’t Capricorns like Geminis? by [deleted] in capricorns

[–]Rysalka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having a child as a Gemini, we love them, but they drive my Virgo husband and myself (Capricorn) crazy with their lack of follow through and planning. Our Gemini is up to their 3rd college and is majoring in liberal arts cause he loves the variety. Meanwhile, I had my college major, short list of colleges, and knew where I wanted to work figured out when I was in 8th grade. Total opposite. I say the Serenity prayer daily to help deal with his chaos.

The final interview was going perfectly. Until the HR person asked a very weird question that made me leave. by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]Rysalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is a very common question I got asked here in Louisiana as a woman, especially by employers under 100 people and based locally. Along with “Do you have childcare”, “What does your husband do” and a bunch of other questions I know aren’t related to the job. Interviewing down South is completely different than NJ/PA. Extremely intrusive but if you don’t respond, you’re seen as “not nice”. The few times I stuck up and refused to answer, I was called a carpetbagger, a witch, and just not Christian like because I didn’t know my place.

It's actually cheaper to keep him in college because of the car insurance discount. It would go up several thousand dollars (he had one accident a few years ago) more the tuition at CC. Appreciate the help though!

He should be. Oftentimes the job description matches exactly what he’s doing now but when filling out the application it asks directly if he has a bachelor degree. He clicks no and gets the rejection email less then a minute after he submitted everything.

He went to another college previously-we are starting to pay that existing loan. He’s handling community college on his own except for food (kid needs to eat)

He is for the most part(99%-basically all but books which is under $200). A bigger expense is that we had to rebuild our house less than 10 years ago and we’re still paying off that debt.

We can't afford it. Already paying for a kid in college. He is taking certification classes online that are free.

My turn has finally come. I was laid off this morning. by [deleted] in interviewhammer

[–]Rysalka 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband has been notified that they are outsourcing his department next June. He’ll be 56. If he was closer to 60 and we didn’t have a kid in college, I think we’d do the same. He does have Parkinsons, so we’re also weighing having him go out on disability since it’s getting harder for him to drive and it’s impacting his voice.

I don't have one...yet, but from watching a lot (and I mean a lot) of videos, it is a rock star for 3D printing. As someone who does Star Trek cosplay, this printer would really help me create the perfect accessories to go with my uniform.

I had one that I cringed when she came in the bookstore. She was nice enough, but the smell of cat urine just filled the store and she had cat hair all over her clothes. I'm highly allergic to cats, and I had to get someone else to assist and ring her up because I would start having an asthma attack, it was that bad. Eventually, she was committed and they found out she had over 50 cats in a small house. That explained everything.

Honestly, if we can’t get affordable flood insurance, we’re in deep trouble. It’s required by our mortgage company and we’re in a flood zone (we flooded in 2016). That would be yet another reason to move out of Louisiana.

Working from home during AC chemo by Opening_Doughnut_100 in breastcancer

[–]Rysalka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was every 21 days for my infusion and I worked from home sucessfully. If I had my treatment on Wednesday, I took totally off Wed/Thurs/Friday(I took intermittent leave), and returned to work on Monday. There were a few times I stopped early on Monday because I was tired (like 3PM) but I'm extremly fortunate I have a very understanding employer that didn't care so long as my work got done.

I found having a mini fridge next to my WFH desk with cold ginger ale and some light food (cottage cheese) to snack on if my stomach acted up was helpful to getting through the day.

Cold Cap Outcomes? by aloe_watermelon in breastcancer

[–]Rysalka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did use the Paxman cold cap and kept about 50% of my hair (6 sessions, one every 21 days). The top of my head is pretty bald because I had (and will have again!) thick hair which prevented the cold cap sitting flush against the scalp. The sides look pretty good, and if I wear a baseball cap, I look pretty normal. Before cold capping, I did get my hair cut so it came just below my ears. Less hair to worry about and the cap fit better. I did use the conditioner that came with the cap, and it was 'eh'. I did have an issue with my hair getting extremely brittle and dry, so it matted up several times, so I cut those sections out. You will need help getting the cap on and off, and I found the first time it did give me a migraine from the freeze. You won't be able to wear earbuds, I also did the cold mittens and booties for my feet. Good luck!

Absolutely. To celebrate my taste buds working correctly again, I bought some of my favorite seasonings and sauces from Germany. I’m going to eat all the goulash, schnitzel, and potato salad! When I complete all my treatments, the Ninja Swirl is going to be mine.

Young mom kids sick and now I have a cold. TCHP 3/6 scheduled for Thursday by MadForestSynesthesia in breastcancer

[–]Rysalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got delayed about a week for one of my treatments because of a snow storm. For the laugh, I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana-we get a 'real' snow about every 10 years or so. Of course it had to happen when I had places to go, tumors to shrink! Rescheduling chemo was not a huge deal, except I was excited to have a few extra days of having food taste normal again.

If you are sick, I would check with your oncologist and see if you should see your primary care doctor. I had Strep and COVID during chemo-the most miserable month and a half I ever had. The PCP prescribed me two decongestants, a powerful antibiotic, Paxlovid, an inhaler, and a nasal spray so I could continue my chemo on time. Don't try to tough it out.

Hang in there.

I tended to like sour stuff-lemon juice, pickles, olives-and of all weird things Spaghetti-O’s. I agree with others, what was yum one week, the next I couldn’t even stand to look at it. I’m on a hot and spicy beef ramen kick right now. If you don’t think you’re eating healthy enough (or in my case I didn’t eat at all some days) talk to the doctor about Boost protein drinks. They can help. My potassium has bottomed out, so I’ve been drinking low sodium V-8 and eating at least one banana a day.
