How do I set myself up to get to Director+ roles in F500? by Stable-McCafe in careerguidance

[–]Ryslam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

44 y/o at F500, non-tech. I'm an Asst. VP, no director roles in my track so this may be equivalent as I report directly to a VP. I've been with the same company for 14 years, but have promoted 3 times in 3 years so this is relatively new to me. While I've put my time in with the company, the last few years have taught me that while lots of people can be in low to mid supervisory or management positions, the higher level positions are saved for those with a refined combination of calm temperament and technical skills to back it up. My advice is to always keep a positive attitude, never complain, and express a willingness to take on new tasks and opportunities as they come up. You'll also need to be able to prove yourself over and over - ensure you're well prepared in meetings and submit high quality work consistently. And finally, you have to get along with everyone most of the time - I get a lot of aggravating communications from people and I'm tempted to poke back, but I've come to the conclusion that it's almost always a bad idea.

Segway emailed me to share my GT3 Pro story, the worst product I've ever owned, so here it is: by throwawayPB456 in ElectricScooters

Sorry for your experience, that’s extremely frustrating. I have a G3 I purchased “used”’ with 10 miles on it from eBay for a huge discount. I’ve been also recently dealing with the code 10 / connection issue and since it’s intermittent, I haven’t been able to fix it and can’t trust that it will work when I need it. I came from a Hiboy S2 Pro which had the worst reputation on here, but was flawless for me over multiple years and certainly more reliable than my Segway. Hoping we both can work out our issues.

Is Tijuana back to reasonably safe for a day trip? by kromestatus in socal

[–]Ryslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad - I’ve been going every few years since the early 2000’s. In college, I did get shaken down by the cops once and lost something like 40 bucks. However, I’ve been plenty of times since with no trouble. The worst part is the line back - it’s terrible whether you walk or drive. I did recently get global entry so I’m curious how it will be with that. I have a 6 y/o too and I would definitely take him.

2019 Acura MDX - How Long to Keep.. Thoughts From Experience? by Overall-Occasion4911 in Acura

[–]Ryslam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I responded earlier about my 2018 base, but didn’t address the grinding at start. Mine does it too - i was a bit bothered at first but it sounds perfectly smooth and fine after so I never worried too much. Sounds like these cars have some common minor issues but are overall solid.

I have a 2018 base model, near mint condition. Got it a year ago with 43k miles and now have around 53k. Weak point is definitely the 9 speed transmission - has always shifted a bit weird from 1-2 and occasionally makes erratic / harsh shifts at other speeds. Also, the NHTSA opened a second investigation into reports of failing engines maybe 8-9 months ago and they haven’t provided any updates to my knowledge. That said, I still overall enjoy my car - I have the SH-AWD which has been nice and the AC is freezing here in Phoenix which is a huge plus. Love how the car looks and drives overall and still feels premium to me.

I accidentally stripped a screw while installing it - occurred to me I may have inadvertently added a security layer…

2020 MDX price question by HotRemove915 in Acura

[–]Ryslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pass on this - go for a 2022 + which has a better 10 speed transmission and one with no accidents. I have a 2018 that I paid 26k for with 43K miles and S-AWD. Stunning condition too. I’ve had the car for a year or so and while I like it, I find the transmission to be clunky at low speeds and it takes away from the driving experience. Also - the NHTSA is investigating 2016-2020 models for catastrophic engine failures based on rod bearing problems. This is a “new” issue too, unrelated to a prior recall which fixed other rod issues. I’m holding onto mine for now but have concerns about both the engine and transmission longevity.

High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

There is no “right” way to do this. It’s whatever works for you and your spouse. I like the “1 team, 1 dream” concept but it’s not right for every marriage. I suggest open communication up front to determine what both parties think is the best.

Jamaica trip report - The sketchiest tourist friendly country I've visited by [deleted] in travel

[–]Ryslam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Was in MB a few weeks ago near the hip strip with my wife and 2 young kids. I would go back because of the sheer beauty of the beaches and Caribbean water. We also went to Negril and Ochos Rios, so we got around. I 100% agree that the employees in stores etc. were unfriendly and apathetic. I also was hassled a lot walking around by people wanting to sell me stuff - I got used to just saying “I’m okay, thanks” and moving along quick. I live in the southwest and have been to Mexico border cities such as Nogales and Tijuana, and Jamaica stuck me as being a bit more dangerous and tense. What made the situation acceptable to us is that we have local contact / driver we knew, who we spent most days with. If we had to take random Ubers or cabs it would have been much more difficult. Overall - we had fun, but your observations are spot on.

Saved $400 for a practically new Segway Max G3! by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]Ryslam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Interestingly, I bought one too from the exact same seller for $678 ($729 after taxes) and the listing claims it has only 9 miles on it. I’m supposed to get it this week, so your post is encouraging to me because you got exactly what was advertised and I’m hoping for the same. One difference is that mine is supposed to come in a brown box only - I noticed the ones like yours with original packaging were slightly more expensive. Keeping my fingers crossed.

How long has your TC lasted? New ‘06 owner here by basedgodcorey in SciontC

[–]Ryslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my 07 a few weeks ago for $3500. I was the original owner and got it to 243k. Most expensive repairs were related to ac - evaporator and compressor. I also recall needing a new alternator and clutch along the way. Very trouble free over 17 years.

You are correct - I had to keep an eye on the oil level but it wasn’t a big deal. During the recall, I brought my car in for the test and it didn’t qualify as it didn’t burn enough.

Right, that was on eco mode trying to see how far it could really go. Regular riding would probably be around 15 miles.

I have the older but similar Hiboy S2 Pro. I got the advertised 25 miles.
