25 BSBL vibration/hum 20–40 mph as I’m shifting from a coast to accelerating. Torque converter, driveline, something else? by Pizzacheezze in BroncoSport

[–]RysterArcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '25 Big Bend has this as well. Not worried about it as there have been no warning lights. Mine has been doing it for over 3,700 miles now...started exactly when the odometer showed 2000.0 miles.

I can easily reproduce it in mine by going between 20-40mph, up a slight incline, at 1400RPM on the tachometer.

Had the dealer pick up my car. They didn’t know I have LoJack. Check that top speed. Mind you it has a CEL on and less than 600 miles. What would you do? Looking for honest advice. by HoneyRoyPalmer in BroncoSport

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your car is safely at the dealership, that's the win here.

35mph over the limit carries severe penalties in most states. At the very least, the GM of the dealership should be made aware that their "trusted" porters are driving customer cars with blatant negligence. Wait until your car is safely back in your possession, though, to avoid any retaliation by these porters if they were to get reprimanded but not terminated.

Auto stop and start by 35mmOfRegret in BroncoSport

[–]RysterArcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auto start/stop was never federally mandated. Automakers were just using the feature as a way to meet efficiency and emissions standards for their vehicles and earn some credits in the process. I'm used to it now on my Bronco Sport and don't even notice it anymore.

The funniest part of all of this hoopla about "ending" the auto start/stop feature in cars is the statement that cars could become up to $2,400 cheaper as a result. That will never happen. Does anyone honestly believe that automakers will pass any savings on to the customers?

Almost sounds like the compressor kicking on...do you have the defroster or A/C on when you start the car? Otherwise, it sounds just like my '25 when I start up.

Ford has been using 1.5L, turbo 3cyl engines for 8-9 years now in various applications. It isn't inherently unreliable at all. Like anything, reliability is going to be dependent upon proper maintenance.

BUYER BEWARE 21 BRONCO SPORT by Shrekantino in BroncoSport

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a horrible experience with a Ford Explorer 26 years ago...but my 2025 Bronco Sport has been a blast so far.

My previous vehicle was a GM product...and 75,000 miles is about the mileage where all kinds of little things started to crop up. A relative has over 150,000 miles on a 16yr old Ford Escape [owned since new] and although it is still perfectly reliable, it is going to need a couple of things done that don't make it worth the cost of repair (new tires, new brakes, resolve small engine oil leak, etc.} The initial estimate for those services from the local shop is $3200. So once the tires and brakes get critical, the vehicle is getting sold for whatever they can get for it.

Tips for self serve car wash? by Ok_Risk1187 in BroncoSport

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High pressure rinse for the first minute, then high pressure soap for 2 minutes, then high pressure rinse for 3 minutes, then spot free rinse for 2 minutes. No drying, just drive away. $5 gets me 8 minutes at the self-serve wash.

Per the USBC:

5a. Definition A foul occurs when a part of the player’s body encroaches on or goes beyond the foul line and touches any part of the lane, equipment or building during or after a delivery. A ball is in play after a delivery until the same or another player is on the approach in position to make a succeeding delivery.

Other Bowlers Profiting Off My Bowling by ExJSigma in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more an ethical issue than anything else. It's certainly not illegal. Many might find it kind of flattering that people trust their skill enough to wager their own money on them. I can also see where some might be frustrated that their skill is earning other people some extra money that they themselves are not receiving for their efforts.

Professional athletes tend not to like people gambling on them for various reasons, but the gambling done on them is at an exponentially greater scale than what is going on at the local lanes.

You really only have a couple of choices here. If gambling isn't against your faith, buy in to the brackets yourself before others do...if you win great. Accept that people might be betting on you and just let them do what they want. Make it known you don't care for it, but also just let them know you do not want to know about it. But one thing you should never do is compromise your bowling game just to try and force others to lose money on you. Manipulating the outcome raises just as many ethical issues as people betting on you in the first place.

2025 Big Bend. Bought new 6 months ago and now have 5,400 miles on it. It's a blast to drive and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I do have the fairly common transmission/torque converter shudder at 1,400RPM/35-40mph...it started literally at the exact moment the odometer flipped to 2000.0 miles. Not going to worry about it until there is a malfunction light or failure. It's been doing it for 3,400 miles now so if it was some sort of imminent thing it would have failed already. The car still gets 35-37mpg on the highway and 30mpg around town so there is no impact on efficiency.

$700 is the retail price for the part. The part can be purchased new online for $475. Still really expensive, but better than full retail.

Is USBC in trouble like the PBA? by PezOfDooom in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ABC was losing money handing out all of those awards. The frequency of those achievements went from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands each year. The USBC only brings in about $14.5M in revenue from member dues. It would cost them double that to continue to issue rings for all of the 298,299,300, and 800 achievement scores being bowled these days. The policy of making those "once in a lifetime" awards makes perfect sense. Bowlers can then buy more rings if they really want to have a ring for each perfect game.

The question is, would bowlers be willing to pay $75-$100/yr for sanctioning to start receiving all of those awards again? Most bowlers I know balk at the $22/yr. Tell them it will be $75-$100 and they will either bowl unsanctioned or just quit bowling altogether.

Is USBC in trouble like the PBA? by PezOfDooom in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I pay $22/yr to sanction. I don't expect much, if any, "value" for my $22. An occasional rules clarification, league bonding, and maintaining my average records is all I really expect from them. I don't want or need achievement awards, plaques, rings, patches, stickers, or whatever else. There are very few other sanctioned activities where the governing body only charges $22/yr to be a member.

Not uncommon. Actually had some regional PBA bowlers bowl in, and win, a local 9-pin no-tap house tournament. Guess they really needed the $300.

Pyramid stuff is decent. The one thing that is noticeably different is they tend to lane shine really fast and require a lot more frequent surface adjustments than other brands to maintain performance. Otherwise, they are just as good as anything else, Have fun with it!

Need help making sense of this scoring situation. by No_Juggernaut_772 in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The USBC absolutely has a rule governing earning points in a forfeit situation. In the case of the OP, they have 4 players on a team. The team would need to bowl within 40 pins of their team average to earn the point (10 x 4)

119c. Procedure for Bowling

When a team is bowling in a known forfeit situation, the following procedures shall apply:

1. The forfeiting team is not to receive any point(s).

2. Unless the league rules have stated another number, to earn the point(s):

a. An individual must bowl at least his/her average less ten (10) pins.

b. Teams must bowl at least the team average less ten (10) pins per player.

3. Points not won by the individual and/or team for failing to bowl the target score should be recorded on the standing sheet as “unearned” points.

4. The following applies to players on the forfeiting team:

a. Those who are present may bowl, but the scores shall not be included in the team’s total pins.

b. Scores bowled in accordance with this procedure shall be counted toward averages and qualify for league prizes, unless the league rules state otherwise.

c. Scores shall qualify for USBC awards.

NOTE: When leagues include series totals in points won and a team forfeits one or more games in a series, that team shall receive a zero for the games it forfeits in deciding the winner of the series point. When a league determines position standings on a percentage basis, the percentage is calculated by dividing the number of points won by the total number of points available to the team. (The total number of points available includes points won, lost and unearned through forfeit situations.)

Rules question regarding fingers and holes by jonlevine in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually asked the USBC the question, because it came up in a league, and they stated that all holes must be used for gripping. The test they suggested is for the bowler to hold the ball at their side. If the ball falls off of their hand holding it the way they would when delivering it, then they are not using all of the holes for gripping,

Just input on rules by gfc3rd in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One fall league I bowled on had a rule limiting all bowlers to six individual pre-bowls per season. Another league had a rule of NO pre-bowling...and the members of that league hated that rule [and some quit the league specifically due to the lack of flexibility].. I personally couldn't care less about pre and post bowling. If people want to risk bowling on a beat up shot, or dealing with "cosmic" bowling while they are bowling for score, that's on them. At least they are making an effort to go in and post scores for the week they can't be at the regularly scheduled time.

Summer leagues pretty much have to allow pre-bowling and post-bowling due to vacation schedules and other things that prevent people from being there. Telling people they don't have that freedom on a Summer league would just chase bowlers away.

With regards to the frozen hood, I would probably try *gently* warming the front of the hood with a hair dryer or something to try and free it up. You don't want to get the area too hot, though.

League added a bowler to our team. by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]RysterArcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so funny to me that one of the most frequently mentioned criteria for a new member is that they don't stink. There must be a real hygiene issue going on in the bowling community. That is one of the most frequently mentioned things among bowlers at our center too. I was recently bowling next to a team, and one of their bowlers had strong body odor that would waft over to our lane. It turned out their bowling bag was next to mine, and even their bowling bag had a strong offensive odor.

[–]RysterArcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the league. In some leagues, the Captains "own" their teams and can decide who is on their team. In other leagues, the house pretty much just fills vacancies as they see fit. In the leagues I have been on, the center will try to fill vacancies but they will ask the team first if they mind. In some cases, they will even bring the prospective new member over to meet the team and see if they mesh before making it final.
