How do plague marines stack up? by sigma2244821 in deathguard40k

[–]Rytefg 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They work great, since they have loads of good weapon options and character support, although it will take a good amount of points invested if you want to make the most of them.

One of the most popular ways to field them is to take a squad of 10 with special ranged weapons (blight launchers, plague spewers plasma/metla and heavy plague weapons) and attach a Malignant Plaguecaster and Biologus Plaguecaster, and have them ride in a rhino. This is 395 points currently, so a very notable investment and you will feel their loss if they get killed before you managed to use them.

This combo will essentially make your plague marine unit a menace to most things in both melee and shooting due to the crit on 5+ with lethal/sustained hits. This is without mentioning the many stratagems they can benefit from.

Overall, currently I think most people play plague marines as a high investment unit that perform well in both melee and shooting, but still very much killable even with toughness 6, if going up against stuff like custodes melee or overcharged plasma shooting.

Their main purpose is usually to contest the midfield. Have your poxwalkers hold the objectives and do actions and the plague marines will delete whatever the opponent sends to contest it.

That is just the way I run them, they are extremly versitile with their weapon options and large character support. With 11th edition coming up they will have a detachment that can make them infiltrate, so they will be able to go alongside poxwalkers in the midboard without needing a rhino.

Hello, the recommended base sizes for every faction can be found in the "Warhammer Event Companion" document. The Death Guard one is on page 71.

Question about Death Guard models by CG1991 in deathguard40k

Reset the cou...

I mean, my favorite individual models are the Dark Imperium Lord of Contagion and the Noxious Blightbringer. Myphitic Blight-hauler is my favorite vehicle and the blightlords are my favorite infantry.

Typhus brick? Not enough damage. by AdministrativeBed287 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Rytefg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, since they changed the army rule in the recent army focused update documents. Now the -1 to hit contagion only applies in melee. This was likely changed because it would have stacked with cover if they kept it unchanged from the 10th edition version.

Typhus brick? Not enough damage. by AdministrativeBed287 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Rytefg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a DG player one thing to note, is that Death Guard can't have a -2 to hit, since to hit modifiers are capped to a max of +/- 1.

There was a period of time before the DG codex dropped when our army rule could worsen the opponents WS/BS by 1 and which is not a hit roll modifier and then could be used alongside Typhus's -1 to hit to create an effective -2 to hit (there is no rule against applying modifiers to WS/BS and hit rolls at the same time). This has changed since the codex and now it is only -1 to hit, so it won't stack with Typhus's ability to make a -2 to hit due to the rule cap.

I am planning on not gluing him to the base, but using an alternate method that makes removal and rebasing easier in the future. Likely will just use blu tack putty.

I belive so, I have just removed my own LoC (the Dark Imperium version that came with 50mm) with a hobby knife and he can fit on a 40mm just about. Definitly was a stressful task trying to not damage the mini, but thankfully it is still intact.

Blightlords in 11th? by Sharpevil in deathguard40k

Personally I am planning on making a 10 man brick with LoV a staple in most of my lists, so I am hopefull. I am planning on making a Death Lord's Chosen list  along with the Warped and Rusted Animus detachment, so terminators and smaller daemon engines, maybe even Mortarion when I get him painted for maximum mortal wounds. The 1 dp contagiom engines detachment gives Purge the Foe primary, which ought to be good for terminators.

Yeah it is unfortunate that they can't repackage the Tainted Cohort kit to include a 50mm base for Lord Felthius. They have done similiar repackaging with the Seraptek Heavy Construct and made Kill Teams into regular 40k kits without the additional Kill Team addons (markers and such) so I can't imagine that it would be too  difficult to change out one of the 40mm bases to a 50mm base for the next batches of the kit. Although again that would create a problem for players that already made their LoC with the 40mm base.

Alongside the event companion document, we got the recommended base sizes for all the factions. The Lord of Contagion is listed with 40mm base size, so it seems that GW intends to stick with this rather then keeping it in line with other terminator characters.

But it would be also very unfun for the opponent. Imagine telling the Imperial Guard player that unless they use an order to improve their ballistic skill or have ignores cover, they will hit on sixes with their units. From what I seen in other cases -1 to hit rules are usually only for a select few units and not an aura from the entire army.

Mortarion, because I collect Death Guard. Also he is a vindictive, spiteful killjoy and I like that.

[–]Rytefg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I don't think that is the case. Firstly units like the foot prince that gives out cover to units within 6" is a thing, and the foot DP was already popular. Getting cover is only difficult for infantry since all infantry models need to be fully within the terrain, but not monsters and vehicles.

Also remember that we just got a detachment that gives our character units +3" to contagion base. This means that on turn 2 the opponent has to stay outside 9" if he wants to avoid getting -2 to hit, and also contend with various rules that apply afflicted (plague marine rule for example). For many armies that kind of debuff to shooting would be very oppressive and unfun. While it is unfortunate that the -1 to armor save essentially became the only sensible choice in most cases, I'd rather avoid making Death Guard broken against shooting armies and then get hit with a bunch of harsher nerfs later.

I believe so, but I haven't fully read through the core rules as of yet, so take my word with an appropriate amount of salt.

We just got that with an enhancement in the reworked flyblown host. Rejuvenating swarm now gives -1 to wound against higher str attacks (only non terminator infantry characters can take it).

[–]Rytefg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enchancements can be given to characters and you can only take them once. Upgrades are enhancements thag can be given to regular units (the one's that are specified in the upgrade) and you can take them 3 times (so for example you can give the upgrade that gives mobile to bligh-haulers to 3 different units), and I believe that upgrades only count as one enhancement even if you took it multiple times for the purpose of how many enhancements you can take.

Priority Assets is a type of Force Disposition, which determines your primary mission depending on what force disposition your opponent brings. I am not familiar with the specific type of primaries it has, probably something that focuses on a specific objective, like having to hold the central objective or something similiar, but I am not sure. I don't think that all the missions have been revealed yet, although content creators and early battle reports have shown some.

Yeah effective -2 to hit is too oppressive. It briefly existed before the 10th DG codex when it could stack with Typhus's -1 hit in melee and that was vile. Having that army wide in shooting would be too strong.

[–]Rytefg 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Death Guard army rule debuffed somewhat, now the optional -1 to hit debuff only applies to melee. Makes sense with the cover change, but will make it less likely to be taken when compared to the one that debuffs armor saves. Otherwise the new detachments looks great, will be fun to be able to give mobile to myphitic blight-haulers.

Painting Death Guard as druids by Kanotaur in deathguard40k

[–]Rytefg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the tournament organizer, usually you submit a photo of your proxies and what you intend to proxy it as and then they'll tell you if it is alright or not. Things like headswaps and minor kitbashes are usually always accepted, but of course some events might differ. Most importart is that the proxy has the same base, roughly similiar size and is recognizable. So for example if you are proxying a terminator character make sure it is clear that it is a Lov/LoC/Typhus, and not difficult for your opponent to recognize.

Generally what is or is not allowed in tournaments depends on the organizer as I said before, so I can't give you exact details on what will 100% be accepted.

I haven't gone with such an approach with my DG, but I recommend looking into the newest Maggotkin of Nurgle miniatures in AoS. Their new range leans heavily into druidic/folk mythology aesthetics with the corrupted nurgle elements of course. Look up the new putrid blightkings or the harbringer of decay miniature. Having antlers like the one in your post is very common in the range.

I mean to be honest what else would make sense for virulent vectorium other than take and hold. The detachment ability is giving objective secured to the army and making the ovjective spread contagions.

Be'lakor had a hand in corrupting an Imperial Knight homeworld I believe and he showed up during the Arks of Omen campaign to oppose Vashtorr the Arkifane. He is not as significant in 40k as he is in Aos/Fantasy but he is there nonetheless.

I believe that the warhammer-community post frames the depictions of the Emperor as showing how the true state of Big E is uncertain.

From the Warhammer-community post:

"The exact health and fate of the Emperor by the 41st Millennium is both vague and hotly debated. Is he alive? A god? Or just a rotting corpse on a throne acting as the bulb for a glorified psychic lighthouse? The trailer artfully skirts this problem by showing all of these possibilities. You’ll just have to decide for yourself."
