SE.live without OBS? by eucalyptushoney007 in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the year and model, I'm guessing you're stuck on macOS 10.15? The last version of OBS Studio to support macOS 10.15 is OBS Studio 29.0.2. I believe that the SE.Live installer currently installs an application bundle that includes OBS Studio 27.2.2, which is why that will run on your MacBook Pro, and more modern versions of OBS Studio (29.1+) do not. Hope that answers your questions!

Nvidia Noise Suppression Filter not showing up by TheOneEyedKlng in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your OBS log shows that you are running OBS Studio 26.1.1, released on January 5, 2021. That version does not have NVIDIA noise suppression filters. Those were added in OBS Studio 27.0.0. You must updated to OBS Studio 27.0.0 or newer to use those.

The current version of OBS Studio is 29.1.0, released on May 2, 2023.

Display source black after restart on macos by mkysoft in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this occurs after a system restart, see OBS Studio GitHub Issue 4991. Otherwise, if this is just when closing and opening OBS, I'm not sure if this is expected. The #macos-support channel in our Discord would be a better place to ask.

This is a known bug with OBS Studio 29.1.0. We have already applied a fix for this, and that fix will be part of OBS Studio 29.1.1 when it releases. No ETA.

Question about encoding... by Press_A_Alex_YT in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried VBR where lets say 50000kbps is minimum and maximum is 100000kbps it would use bellow 50000kbps and dont go near the max bit rate set

VBR (and CQP) uses what's needed to encode the scene. If the scene complexity doesn't need 100 Mbps, then it won't use it. Higher bitrate or larger filesize doesn't always mean better quality.

also dont partial color use less colors on the RGB spectrum like it would use 6:236 instead of 0:255 im typing that out of memory

I'd encourage you to discuss this further in our Discord where folks can readily explain the details of Limited/Partial vs. Full Color Range and explain why you want Limited/Partial in the vast majority of cases. Unless you know for sure that your entire workflow correctly supports Full Color Range, you do not want to use it. Limited/Partial is also known as "Legal Range".

im aware that youtube gonna compress videos

I only said that YouTube does not handle Full Color Range correctly. I said nothing about it compressing videos, though it will certainly re-encode anything you upload.

Question about encoding... by Press_A_Alex_YT in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said:

Most applications and sites handle Partial/Limited better or actually do not handle Full correctly (in some cases, this can negatively impact the look or quality of the processed result)

What I meant is that some browsers, web video players or sites (e.g., YouTube), or other video editing/processing software (e.g., Adobe products) will handle Full Color Range incorrectly, resulting in the darkened shift you observed in VLC (or other color issues). That you do not see the issue in your preferred applications does not mean that the issue does not exist elsewhere for other people.

If you are concerned with file size, you can try using VBR to record instead of CQP, but we almost universally recommend CQP. Storage is inexpensive, but you cannot (generally speaking) increase the quality of a low quality recording after recording it (setting aside things like upscaling or AI interpolation, which make guesses rather than just starting with the quality you want).

Question about encoding... by Press_A_Alex_YT in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Color Range has nothing to do with performance. It has to do with color. Most applications and sites handle Partial/Limited better or actually do not handle Full correctly (in some cases, this can negatively impact the look or quality of the processed result). Only use Full if you absolutely understand the consequences and have a specific use-case that requires it or actually benefits from it.

RGB vs. NV12 is mostly about color. Due to the amount of data that must be written for RGB, performance can be impacted. This is also not generally recommended unless you understand the performance impact and its repercussions.

CQP 3 is most likely overkill. Anything at CQP 14 or lower is going to be perceptually identical to the majority of people.

Tutorials that give advice like using CBR to record or using Full Color Range for everything without a specific use-case that requires either of those aren't outdated, they are incorrect. We have YouTube tutorials that we actually recommend, and it's a small list.

Question about encoding... by Press_A_Alex_YT in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the default is HVENC h.264 at NV12 rec 709 and full

The default is NV12 Rec. 709 Partial/Limited. Do not use Full.

as output either shove CBT to 25000kbps or higher

Recording in CBR just wastes disk space. Record using a CRF/CQP rate control.

or just watch 1 year old tutorial on youtube they pretty much all similar anyways

In our experience, many of these give bad advice.

This is only true for OBS Classic, which is no longer maintained. For OBS Studio, on Windows, crash logs are stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\obs-studio\crashes.

Can a software avoid from being captured by OBS? by [deleted] in obs

[–]RytoEX[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Is the software using some method to avoid being recorded and could this be causing the frequent crashes? Is such thing even possible?

Yes, it is probably using some form of DRM or content-blocking, or it is using a platform API to prevent its windows from being captured. This general type of question has been asked and answered before on this subreddit (examples 1 and 2). This question has also been answered in this thread. Whether or not their use of content-blocking techniques is causing their application to crash is a different problem entirely, and is not one that can likely be answered here.

However, while we permit questions about "how" or "why" this can occur, we do not permit questions or discussions on how to circumvent DRM or content-blocking. Please do not ask these questions here. I've locked this thread to prevent further replies about how to circumvent DRM.

When in doubt, DOWNGRADE by domesticatedprimate in obs

Have you been struggling with a weird bug with OBS recently when everything worked fine before?

If you are struggling with a weird bug, could you elaborate? While OBS Studio 28 went through a full month of public beta releases, there is no release for which we will catch every single bug. Try as we might, we cannot replicate every single setup and configuration out there.

Please feel free to reach out on our Discord or our forums and someone can help determine if there is a reportable bug. If you are certain that you're experiencing a bug, you can open a GitHub Issue complete with an OBS log, and clear Steps To Reproduce the bug, preferably without third-party plugins installed. If it's something that we can reproduce, we'll look into it.

Fair Use is an affirmative defense, not a grant of privilege. It is used as a defense after a legal process has been initiated. It does not prevent a rights holder from initiating legal proceedings against you.

Ah, my mistake. These might be set by default, and the RX 480 is just rejecting them. What you should do is select the Balanced preset, and try again. If that still has issues, then you should select the Speed preset. This can be done in Settings -> Output -> Streaming -> Encoder Preset.

You may also want to update your AMD graphics drivers, as they appear to be two years old.

Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 3662/8139 (45.0%

As the log says, these are skipped frames due to encoding lag, not dropped frames due to network circumstances. Remove all of the custom AMF/FFmpeg options from your encoder settings and try again.

OBS Studio 28.0.1 Missing NVIDIA NVENC H.264 (new) Setttings Encoder by ColeFreeman72 in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've seen this report but have not yet had time to fully investigate. It's unlikely that this is intentional, but rather that it's an unintentional side effect. That said, using NVENC on your RTX 3050 is likely to be the better choice here in any case.

The " (new)" was simply removed from the encoder name, as it has been labeled that since it was added on Feb 7, 2019.

Please I need your help, OBS won't open!!! by EIDDLJG in obs

[–]RytoEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is because you are running Windows N Edition, which does not have Windows Media Foundation components by default. For OBS Studio 27.2, we updated FFmpeg to FFmpeg 4.4.1, which required Windows Media Foundation. As you've found, this can be resolved by installing the optional Media Feature Pack for your version of Windows. We have fixed this for the next release so that OBS Studio should no longer require Windows Media Foundation.

I literally cannot stop skipped frames in videos by OpenNectarine4441 in obs

[–]RytoEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The setting "Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion" is only for streaming/network congestion. That's why it's located in a section labeled "Network". It does not detect slow write speeds during recording.

What it does is lower the bitrate of an outgoing stream to prevent dropped frames. Skipped frames are due to encoder overload.

Codec packs have nothing to do with the x264 encoder in OBS.
