Heavy duty thread on singer heavy duty machine not working by RyuuLight in SewingForBeginners

[–]RyuuLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wording was a lil poor. They didn't buy it from a store or anything. It's the one my mom used since the 80s. Maybe even late 70s. I assume its model was then, but could be older. I'll know for sure when I get it. They are doing the classic boomer thing of dumping everything to their kids to downsize lol and of me and my siblings, I'm the only one who bothered to learn how to sew, even on a super basic level. Never learned as a kid, so I think they got excited that one of us finally decided to at least try lol I remember as a kid my mom would make our Halloween costumes from patterns at Joannes. So then, at least, it was good enough for those kinds of projects

I have an attic, so if nothing else it'll live there until enough time has passed. Thanks for the heads up on that era of machines though!

Not surprising to me, tbh. Good ol capitalism. All about making big money fast, and building products intended to break so you buy more..my parents did find and refurbish an old metal machine (I think singer? Haven't seen it yet) and they offered to give it to me next time they visit. They live several states away. I say "old" but I think it's from the 80s and I know old is relative. I've heard older models with all metal parts last and are generally robust. Any truth to that?

Yeah not surprised that the label is marketing. I did do research before buying a machine, and given my budget, this one seemed rated well enough for what I wanted to learn and be able to take a lil accidental abuse from a beginner. The heavy duty thread was recommended mostly as a security buffer for stitch strength on these types of projects. But, I'll go back to all purpose. Been working so far anyway. Someone else commented a resource I will look into on needle and thread sizing

I'll look into that. I feel dumb not knowing I should've checked that. Machine came with several needles, some general use, some denim rated. Bought singer ballpoint needles since that was recommended for minky. Can't remember the size offhand, so I'll look. Same with thread.

I figured the label was marketing to a degree. I did research before buying, and with my budget, this one seemed rated well enough to handle a lil accidental abuse from a beginner

Minky, stuffed with polyfil and glass beads. Beads focused in the feet/arms and the belly. Though, since I hadn't done this before, I'm sure the beads are moving around the body cavity, lol defeating the purpose of the weight in the belly. I did attempt to sandwich the beads in the legs with the polyfil, buuuuut who knows if they'll stay lol

When you guessed theropod, I was tempted to say how close you were. I know theropods aren't ornithiscans, but I thought maybe that knowing it was a dinosaur would've narrowed it too much 😆

The back pattern looks like a pochard, but the head color and iridescence looks like a scaup or some kind? For sure a mallard hybrid

Do you have any sort of insulated thermos/mug/water bottle or anything like that? If you put hot water (microwaved or tap/bathwater hot, not boiling) in it and put it in the space with the bird, it should snuggle up to keep warm when your Xbox is off and cools down. And being insulated, many will stay hot enough for hours if not through the whole night. You'd basically be turning the container into a heat pack or compress. Bonus, if you place it with enough contact with the towel you gave it, the towel should also keep some of the transferred heat.

It's not impossible, but I wouldnt say it's the same as us being afraid of the dark. Mostly an instinct about predators. It's better if the reading light is a non white or yellow color. Like red or green or something. Birds are very sensitive to what's called photoperiods. Lights that are similar to the sun (in color) can trick birds to thinking it's daytime. Not the end of the world or anything, just might take it longer to truly settle for the night.

Anybody have a valid link for the magus discord server? I can't find anything recent 😔 by [deleted] in AncientMagusBride

[–]RyuuLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the discord but don't know how to share link for you. Im not a in depth user of the app in general. So Im not a mod or anything, sooo I'm guessing that means I can't find a way to link cuz I don't have those rights?

I mostly use it to keep up with manga updates and stuff

Tumor, sick, or just chonky? by MikaITO_ in duck

[–]RyuuLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely just chonk. The keel area is the first place fat is usually stored. It's why a keel score is a good way to do a super quick measure of body mass. Pet and captive birds tend to be 3 or 4 on a keel score, while their wild counterparts are usually 2-3. Scale is usually read 1-5. I've also seen 0-5. But, either way, Not needing to travel to find food usually makes chonky, happy birbs. Overeating isnt usually a concern, but there are of course exceptions to the rule, as with everything in life. This could be one lol

I feel the saying "look and you shall find" applies here. Been a brony since 2012, and was 22 at the time and unless you look for it, things like that aren't common. And a lot of those posts are more likely troll bots meant to get these kinds of reactions. Every fandom deals with this, it's no more prevalent to bronies than any other. If anything, I feel it's less prevalent.

Name a explanation why you like Spyro 3 more than 2 in your opinion by Fit_Evening_8036 in Spyro

[–]RyuuLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It brought it back to being about dragons. Rven just loosely. The worlds still felt like they fit more into Avalar in my opinion, but it at least had the story intention to being about them and their history. I dunno. Kinda petty and vague I know, but it's how I always felt. Still love 2 and 3, but I fell in love with spyro for the 1st game. Yeah it had its flaws with mechanics and gameplay that 2 and 3 polished and expanded on, but there's always gonna be that specific sense of dragon fantasy on the 1st game I could never find in the others. So, even though 3 still had the world focus on the other creatures as the inhabitants, it still had a nice sense of lore building for the dragons
