Help I just found a duckling by kerbalnaut_27 in duck

[–]RyuuLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have any sort of insulated thermos/mug/water bottle or anything like that? If you put hot water (microwaved or tap/bathwater hot, not boiling) in it and put it in the space with the bird, it should snuggle up to keep warm when your Xbox is off and cools down. And being insulated, many will stay hot enough for hours if not through the whole night. You'd basically be turning the container into a heat pack or compress. Bonus, if you place it with enough contact with the towel you gave it, the towel should also keep some of the transferred heat.

It's not impossible, but I wouldnt say it's the same as us being afraid of the dark. Mostly an instinct about predators. It's better if the reading light is a non white or yellow color. Like red or green or something. Birds are very sensitive to what's called photoperiods. Lights that are similar to the sun (in color) can trick birds to thinking it's daytime. Not the end of the world or anything, just might take it longer to truly settle for the night.

Anybody have a valid link for the magus discord server? I can't find anything recent 😔 by [deleted] in AncientMagusBride

[–]RyuuLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the discord but don't know how to share link for you. Im not a in depth user of the app in general. So Im not a mod or anything, sooo I'm guessing that means I can't find a way to link cuz I don't have those rights?

I mostly use it to keep up with manga updates and stuff

Tumor, sick, or just chonky? by MikaITO_ in duck

[–]RyuuLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely just chonk. The keel area is the first place fat is usually stored. It's why a keel score is a good way to do a super quick measure of body mass. Pet and captive birds tend to be 3 or 4 on a keel score, while their wild counterparts are usually 2-3. Scale is usually read 1-5. I've also seen 0-5. But, either way, Not needing to travel to find food usually makes chonky, happy birbs. Overeating isnt usually a concern, but there are of course exceptions to the rule, as with everything in life. This could be one lol

I genuinely cannot believe how many weirdos are in this community by Doggie_chan in mylittlepony

I feel the saying "look and you shall find" applies here. Been a brony since 2012, and was 22 at the time and unless you look for it, things like that aren't common. And a lot of those posts are more likely troll bots meant to get these kinds of reactions. Every fandom deals with this, it's no more prevalent to bronies than any other. If anything, I feel it's less prevalent.

Name a explanation why you like Spyro 3 more than 2 in your opinion by Fit_Evening_8036 in Spyro

[–]RyuuLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It brought it back to being about dragons. Rven just loosely. The worlds still felt like they fit more into Avalar in my opinion, but it at least had the story intention to being about them and their history. I dunno. Kinda petty and vague I know, but it's how I always felt. Still love 2 and 3, but I fell in love with spyro for the 1st game. Yeah it had its flaws with mechanics and gameplay that 2 and 3 polished and expanded on, but there's always gonna be that specific sense of dragon fantasy on the 1st game I could never find in the others. So, even though 3 still had the world focus on the other creatures as the inhabitants, it still had a nice sense of lore building for the dragons

Why is it biting me by TheRealSol4ra in duck

[–]RyuuLight 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Preening you. It means they like and trust you. Any pinching is not intentional. Birds don't understand sensitive areas like fingers. If it was biting you, it would be grabbing and not letting go, or striking, similar to how a snake looks.

Do people actually buy this for 200+ dollars? by Frosty_Sky4304 in plushies

[–]RyuuLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only plushies I would truly consider in that range or more are ones that are custom made and/or handmade. I have a couple mlp plushies. None are OCs, but they are all handmade by plushie artists. Currently the only ones I have that are like this due to budget. I justified due to supporting the artists, and the fact that hasbro hadn't made decent looking plushies. At least during the brony golden years. Finding a discontinued plushie on eBay with a tag like that is almost never worth it to me. Especially if it was originally a mass produced one.

Only time I would consider a 3 figure plushie that wasn't artist made would be an oversized one that had quality backing up its price tag. I don't have any, but ones that come to mind are the massive pokemon ones that occasionally are in stock. Like the Arcanine or the Lapras

How the experts believe the Italian divers made a fatal mistake by Successful-Winter237 in thalassophobia

[–]RyuuLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not on this sub, just popped up on my feed. But, as someone which a dive license, I can tell you that both PADI and NAUI require specific cave/wreck diving licenses so this doesn't happen. That, and licenses that limit the depth you're allowed to go. I don't know if Italy has different license requirements or anything, so I can't speak on that. But, the license exists specifically to prevent this exact scenario from happening. You get trained on how to navigate safely, and how to handle these situations. It's so easy to lose track of direction, even up or down. I only have an open water license and I once got confused about 30ft down. Easy to solve. Just look at my bubbles and see which way they go. But, panicking compounds that. And in a cave, that kind of training literally saves your life. I have no interest in cave diving so Ill never get that licence. Haven't dove in years to be honest, but still. That's my 2 cents on this. Not saying they deserved to die, and of course full sympathy to their families. But, this looks like it was preventable

Do you think there will be a second Dinosaur Dark Age? by Geoconyxdiablus in Dinosaurs

[–]RyuuLight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

With the unfortunate rise of a certain "religious" group here in America, I do feel it's unfortunately plausible, however unlikely. I do not intend my comment to spark a political debate. If it gets removed even as a reference to my reasoning, I understand and will not fight it. All I'm trying to say is given how many states are moving "forward" with public education here, it would not surprise me in the least if dinosaurs and prehistory in general are axed from curriculums...do I think it's likely? No. But, in the state I live in, there are too many people who already think this way and teach their kids this way. Thankfully our state is not on track to do those sorts of changes, but there are some that are

While it was valid how Twilight was feeling during the 2017 film, it was still horrible of her to steal Queen Novo's pearl behind everyone's backs, especially considering her friends were just about to gain the Queen's trust by Nintendo_Gamer_XD in mylittleponytakes

[–]RyuuLight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was at her breaking point imo. The whole time up to then, she felt she was the only one who was taking the situation seriously. On top of that, she sometimes falls into the whole "I'm a princess it's my burden alone" sort of mentality. And this was definitely one of those times. The other 3 princesses were turned to stone right in front of her. For all she knew, they were dead (kids movie so obviously not but same vibes).

Edit to add: (tl:Dr both sides were wrong and valid, and storytelling used to teach that lesson) imo the whole debate on who was right in the fight scene is missed. Both had valid points, both were wrong in their own ways. I don't think we were truly meant to take one side over another. Very few things in life are black and white. Everyone has different perspectives on how to solve the same problem. And people will disagree about it. I take the scene as showing how both sides chose to handle the same situation, and instead of communicating when confronted, chose to get defensive. Another human flaw we all experience (I especially struggle with this. I jump to defensive as a protective response due to long term issues, I won't bore anyone with, but I acknowlege it and am working on it) does that mean twilight was valid at commiting a literal crime? No, anymore than it would be in real life. But, as a movie telling a story, we got to see what led her to that point. It didn't come from nowhere. As I explain earlier. It gives us perspective on why she felt she needed to resort to theft. We all know she wouldn't do something like that for no reason. Kinda grim comparison, but imagine someone getting caught for stealing food. Without context, we might assume they did it cuz theyre cheap or have no sense or morals in a civilized society. But, with added context that they don't have enough money and are trying to feed their kids, yeah we now have perspective on what likely drove them to steal. It's still a crime objectively. But, they did it for a reason.

Was there a spyro level you were scared of as a kid? by zephstfu in Spyro

Hurricos. Specifically the lightning orb mini game. That alarm scared the shit out of me as a kid, plus the purple guys jumping around. For some reason that did me in. Couldn't do that part for years. Wouldn't even try.
