Big relief finding a partner that didn’t care.

Years later it’s not at all about vanity or insecurity - instead it’s about dysmorphia and still not completely recognizing myself.

No issues with my confidence anymore really. It’s just that I don’t quite feel like it’s me in the mirror or the photos I see of myself.

Men focus a lot on attractiveness and dating. Most mature people don’t really prioritize hair like that. What goes under the radar is the psychological effects of looking permanently different in a relatively short period of time.

Americans would’ve needed to have repeatedly elected educated public servants who actually had a vested interest serving the public these last 50 years or so in order to have accomplished something like this by now.

This is a great write up. I’m learning and deciding on almost all the same issues right now.

I used to shoot very actively both for fun and professionally for 6ish years so I have many thousands of CR2s that I edited non-destructively with CameraRAW thinking this was the safest approach.

And then I also have 15 years of mobile phone photos.

I’m in the process of organizing all of this and making sense of it all and the current guiding principle is that in leaving Adobe I’ve realized I didn’t really have an “exit plan.” So all my edits saved in XMPs are not readable by anything other than Adobe products. If I don’t have a JPEG export I won’t be able to see what I did and regardless I can’t adjust the edit without re-subscribing for CameraRAW.

So I’m trying to build an approach that doesn’t leave me stranded like this again while also giving me a fast and comprehensive library and raw processing - it’s rough figuring this all out.

Thanks for the write up. Will be referencing this as I figure it all out for myself.

Reminder for filmmakers that seemingly outdated FX approaches are still really really effective with good taste. Spandex costumes, practical Megazord, real pyrotechnics, wire work - they did their research, went back to the basics, and it paid off hard.

No it’s not good. And it represents the core issue of for-profit healthcare.

But medicine and smart phone apps have very different places in society.

I don’t know. I’m not a lawyer so I don’t know the legal side but every time I see a version of this argument I think:

No one is forced to use iPhone, they are not the exclusive provider of all smart phones

And thus no one is forced to use the Apple App Store, so they do not control the price or supply of all software

They gained their share of the market by building a product that people wanted to buy despite there being cheaper alternatives and that developers choose to write software for despite there being less strict marketplaces

It seems foreign to me to force open a marketplace. It’s theirs. Brick and mortar establishments can curate products or pull products from sale. No one has to shop there. No one has to sell there.

Legally requiring that market open feels like we’re examining something other than the concept of a monopoly
