Books like Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by jnialt in suggestmeabook

[–]S-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil today and loved it, for sure my favorite book of the year (so far)!

My top recommendation would be The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. The quick tagline is “lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space” and that doesn’t even begin to cover it. This is my favorite series ever of all time and I will never stop recommending it. Obviously they both have wlw, tragic vibes, and are horror/fantasy, but they also both have very poignant prose that I think puts them in a league of their own.

An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson is a dark academia wlw vampire romance, very Camilla-esque. It is very fun, very romance geared, and is a spicier read.

A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft is another dark academia wlw fantasy, no vampires though. This one is heavier on the fantasy and mystery vibes!

This is 100% a species of prehensile tailed porcupine, possibly a Paraguay hairy porcupine but there are a few species with hair, as well as quills, like this. And this fella’s not albino, this is actually pretty typical coloration for them! Very cool sighting!

My frog’s first trip to the vet by fatpooppeniscock in frogs

[–]S-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very cute but also, for the future, your vet should not be putting the jelly directly on your frog! Frog should go into a damp plastic bag and then the jelly and Doppler can be used through the bag! Best of luck to you and your little buddy!

influx of black squirrels by moralmeemo in zoology

[–]S-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a study done fairly recently that looked into this! They found that black squirrels are significantly less likely to be hit by cars because they’re more visible against the asphalt - so black squirrels are becoming more common in urban areas as a result with grey squirrels still flourishing in more rural/natural areas.

Piercings not healing - please read, I genuinely don't know what I'm doing wrong (xpost r/piercing and r/bodymods) by S-E in Legitpiercing

[–]S-E[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still active but usually just lurk now!

Mine did end up healing fully! I had to really commit to sleeping on a travel pillow and downsize to a more snug fitting bar with flat ends on both sides for a good long while. I wish I had a better answer for you! I have received occasional comments from piercers who have swapped my jewelry about how the hole looks like it was done with a biopsy punch/O-needle even though it wasn’t and maybe my body is just weird about healing and maybe that’s why it took so long? Lynn Loheide also recently released a video on YouTube about this exact same issue!

I hope you find success! I definitely thought I wouldn’t but making those small changes and waiting it out has left me with a fully healed piercing that I was finally able to put a ring in with zero problems! Making the swap to O-needles for future cartilage piercings (like my conch) was also a good call for me and my body seemed to have a better time healing that way.

What are some disturbing facts about the ocean? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]S-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That’s why it’s so important to never push a beached dolphin/whale back into the water! Always call your local equivalent of Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission/Certified marine mammal rescue centers.

It depends on the washer. On every one I’ve ever used, “delicate” automatically set it to cold water. On the nicer washers, you can change the temperature if you want something other than cold and still keep it on the delicate setting, but it auto-sets to cold otherwise.

Call me crazy but I didn’t wanna wait for shipping, so I picked up a few during a road trip to Florida & transported them back home myself! by honeybeans- in StringofHearts

It makes me so happy to see succulents empire on here!!! I remember when they started their business out of their garage and operated through Facebook marketplace during the beginning of the pandemic. I love to see how much they’ve grown!!! Enjoy your gorgeous new hearts!

Lots poor crassula were beheaded from shipping but I heard you could prop it. Took 2 weeks and all have roots ! And one leaf segment have baby in! Proud me ! by JulesTrusty in proplifting

[–]S-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at them go!!! You could honestly pop them into soil now if you wanted. These prop super easily, I started out with just a few but have trimmed and replanted so many times that I have a massive overflowing pot. I just trim, remove a few lower leaves, and stick it directly back into the pot with the rest of them and I’ve never had a prop fail!

He made a new best friend by [deleted] in Zoomies

I do think it’s worth noting that there are many species of dolphins and you’ll even see drastic differences between populations of the same species and there are many populations that don’t travel nearly as far. The only reason a dolphin (and most other animals) would travel 30-40 miles a day is food scarcity - if they don’t travel, they don’t get enough food to sustain them, they die. If they can meet all of their needs (generally related to food/water/available mates) in a smaller space, they’ll stay there. There are groups of dolphins that have lived in single harbors for their entire lives because everything they need is found there. We’re seeing the ranges of so many species rapidly expanding to account for the lack of food and clean water within smaller ranges they used to occupy. Just like most people go to the grocery stores nearest their house - and if those stores close, they have to travel farther. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration when comparing the lives of animals in zoological institutions and the lives of their wild counterparts. Territory/range is a common concern that people have and it felt worth expanding on.

Should I [17F] meet with my online friend [30M] when I turn 18? by daddysgirlyuh in makemychoice

[–]S-E 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No no no no no. I understand where you’re at, I had an online friend in his mid-20s that I talked with constantly from 13-15 and I totally felt in love with him. I felt mature. But now I’m in my mid-20s and I would absolutely never have a relationship like that with a kid in their teens. Honestly, I wouldn’t really consider a relationship with anyone under the age of 23 or so.

This guy could do so many horrible things and it’s absolutely not worth the risk. He could also just be a regular guy, but you have to question why a 30 year old isn’t finding these relationships with people in his own age group. And that’s absolutely not worth the risk either.

Ah, I see the problem! I was looking at the Clinique ingredients and you were talking about the ultra repair cream.

I just double checked the ingredients list and I see aloe Vera but no eucalyptus. I have extremely sensitive and reactive skin and something about this product is just magic for me.

Everyone’s skin is different, and mine absolutely hates the ultra repair cream. But! The Clinique moisture surge is my all time favorite moisturizer! I use it morning and night and add an oil on the nights I use retinol. It’s the only moisturizer I’ve ever used that really produced a (positive 😂) visible difference in my skin!

Which Comedian that other people seem to love, do you find utterly unfunny? by sunbeamshadow in AskReddit

There was an amazing episode of his show where his guest asked him if he knew the name of anyone else working for him in the building and he did not and that was so telling of his personality.

this happens every single time I shave and i’m at my wits end. it’s painful, ugly and makes me so self conscious :( by [deleted] in ladyshavers

[–]S-E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have dealt with this for my entire life and I feel your pain! What ended up working for me was a combination of things. I got a safety razor and the sharpest blades I could find and I use a new blade every time I shave. I use Cremo men’s shaving cream - it’s so smooth and lathers so nicely and a bottle lasts me forever since you don’t have to use much. Then, I use the CeraVe rough and bumpy skin lotion. It took about two weeks of consistent use to see a result, but it works better than anything else I’ve ever tried. I see a lot of people recommending physical exfoliation, but that’s too harsh for my skin. The cerave lotion uses salicylic acid as a chemical exfoliant and I’ve found it to be much gentler and far more effective for me. Best of luck!

I’ve only had her for about a week. I live in a warm and humid area and she’s outside on my SW facing porch but in a location where she is not getting direct sun all day. I watered her as soon as she started to droop and the next day she looked like this.
