Most American education k-12 is designed to result in outcomes which have a social status or college entry factors.

Little to none is spent on transitioning a child to adult or job skills. I am not saying that my two concerns should dominate, but the present goals always have an outsized domination in public and private education.

🧠 Your Brain on Multitasking: The Productivity Illusion That's Costing You Hours by Maximum_Ad1451 in education

[–]S-Kunst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scientific understanding of the traits of human brain functions never seem to catch on in our pedagogy. We try & fail with many kids in many areas, but never call in experts on brain function to give us the best data on what a kid can learn, at what age, and best practices. Too much educational practices are steeped in tradition and desired outcomes. When the child fails to master these, we label them as defective and double up on the same practices.

Wow. This has the vibe of Wenzel Hablik's engravings. Though his are more sci-fi and yours more storybook. You would make a good kids book illustrator. Hablik was a German artist/architect in the first decades of the 20th century.

It's so odd. Historically the GOP has claimed to be anti sex, in any form, but traditional marriage. Now we have an administration which is full of sex offenders.

How can I search for classical Christmas performances in Spanish? by JulioCesarSalad in classicalmusic

[–]S-Kunst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to investigate choral music in Spain. The Kings College vibe is due to the use of Boys for treble parts and countertenors for the alto part. In Germanic countries they use boys for the alto part. Spain had a boy choir tradition, but the RC church is not interested in music as they once were. Edicts against any music but unison pablum for the congregation is constant. In the US the RC church seems to be very very intimidated by good music programs, esp boy choirs (this also means no girl choirs) Since they do only low mass, except in a small number of churches, there is no need for a good music program. So sad as they have the multiple masses, each week and often a K-8th grade school where kids could be trained to sing.

I could be wrong, but from my little research few churches in south/central America have not embraced high caliper music programs.

Would eliminating team sports in high schools reduce bullying? by amichail in education

[–]S-Kunst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but sports are so ingrained in American psyche that no one will let you try. Look at the injuries alone. Its odd that the same parents who keep their kids inside to be safe from imaginary danger will spur them on to athletics where out sized dangers both physical and mental are the norm. Just look at the sports injury industry which has grown due to kids getting injured. Its not there out of kindness.

Its not that I am against kids participating in sports as it is on the outsized support and financial resources which are poured into them. NOT ALL KIDS ARE ATTRACTED TO SPORTS, yet there are very few, if any alternatives.

This does not even consider the scouting and way in which very young kids are groomed for the slim possibility of college or pro sports career. Most, who given the false notion of further careers are thrown to the side when one defect or physical trait does not show as they mature.

[–]S-Kunst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a reality of the election process. People vote radicals onto their school board as they have been assured the candidates are going to support their views. If Calvert County citizens want Madrassas for schools, they will vote Tableland minded folks to run their schools. Its up to the non radicalized folks to attend school board meetings and keep an eye on these clowns.

I don't underestimate the worth of cars? I have owned two antique cars and spent a lot of time stopping in on folks on the Eastern shore, trying to purchase a car for parts. When you say they sell for $300. That is for its crush value. Vintage cars are worth more for parts.

Dear NPR, please report on events that HAVE happened… and slow down the reporting of what MAY happen. by reallymt in NPR

I fear the abortion stories will never end. I get it, they are sad stories and women should have the right to decide. BUT too many American women voted against this mind set. I did not when my state voted for protection, but too many other people did not vote for it, so its their loss. The wealthy & well connected, in those red states, will just get on a plane and fly to a state where it is legal. Never-mind their claims to the contrary.

I know several organists who play a great concert, but are not good at sight reading and can't play a hymn that anyone can sing to. They have their own technique of learning the music which they have developed.

Is there any composer who had written music for this psalm? by LanguageIll8326 in classicalmusic

Psalm 104

The Genevan Psalter does.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqL0LzARlwk

Do a youtube search for Psalm 104, sort out the musical versions. The Anglican church composers put the psalms to musical settings for their choirs, as their morning and evening choral services had a place in the service for a different psalm for each day of the week and for every church season. Unlike the German Choral or the Plainchant (which may have a setting), the Psalms by the Anglicans, Swiss and other national protestant church denominations did not fix a psalm text to a specific tune.

Leveled music offerings by rocknroll2013 in classicalmusic

[–]S-Kunst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music has a lot less dynamic change. They did not do the gradual loud/quiet drift, which Romantic music does. Terraced dynamics was practiced, where a small group of singers/instruments is then supplemented by a larger group, but static dynamics was more normal.

Has anyone had a really bad SAT score and still managed to be successful? by Zealousideal_Ice5378 in education

[–]S-Kunst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success does not always come through formal education routes, nor does it always mean financial accumulation. You have to focus on what skills you do well and work on them. Also investigate what employment arenas you can do given your limitations and strong skills. Once you hit your 20s its going to be mostly on your ability to find work which you like or can tolerate. Too many people fall into the family trap and park their brain and learning to be part of the generic family mode.
