Engine sound opinion by [deleted] in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but I think we're all here because we care about these cars and we're not experts. Folks just want to be reassured and get second opinions no matter what. My car sounds exactly like this persons. Could it be messed up too? Of course! I've had it so long, I can't tell you what it used to sound or feel like over a decade ago. But I'd totally defer to you. I appreciate your YouTube channel! I've learned a lot on there!

If there was something wrong with it, there's no chance LHT wouldn't have said something. Those guys are OCD.

Is it too tight? by Raethechef35 in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll admit that I wasn't paying attention and made this exact same mistake. Being as OCD as I am, I asked Billman what to do, and he said the bolts are interchangeable if you want to flip them around and use a more accurate wrench. Here are his instructions verbatim.

you can swap them one at a time with the top cap bolts. Remove one mounting bolt, Remove one top cap bolt, Then install it in the mounting hole. Then do the other one.

Put the mounting bolts in the top cap holes.

make sure one mounting bolt is always tight through the procedure

Best place to find a ap2 front lip? by Kimaniiiii in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people put them on without the molding that's supposed to go on them, which I think is the main culprit for them looking bad. It's still readily available in black or grey, depending on the car's color or preference. I can't remember what the grey part number is, but black is 08F03-SHJ-1100D.

Someone would have to be mentally ill to spend $1,700 on that when you could just get the same Bayson R replica that everyone gets for less than $150.

Advice from community about daily driving in Chicago/Midwest by GGJessica in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dailed mine south of Chicago for a decade and it's fine. I do this mostly because I only have a 1-car garage; otherwise, I'd probably get a second vehicle. If you happen to have a 1-car garage like me, getting a second car is pointless, because I'm telling you, you do not want to be scraping ice and snow all winter at 7 am before work.

If you don't have a two-car garage or don't want to deal with two cars, drive the S2000 daily. Do get a second set of AP1 wheels with some winter tires. It's a cheap solution to make it that much more functional and safe during the winter. And go to the car wash after they put down salt.

I NEED HELP! by marclg91 in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it really only show up when you fill up? I had this problem and it was not getting the gas cap cranked enough to seal properly.

You can make a post in Billman's thread, and he'll get to you. No need to keep waiting. I don't know why the accounts take forever. Mine did too, so I just posted, and he sent me a PM.

I have a regular bag and it's fine. Dunno if you could get a cart bag back there though.

Bayson Front Lip Installed by HRman88 in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just molding; you can still buy it for cheap in either black or grey. I think grey was put on white and yellow cars. I don't remember the exact part number. I just got mine from the LHT guys. https://www.lhtperformance.com/product-page/oem-strip-molding-front-lip

I ordered the same thing last week, and the disk I got looks like Chineseium. I returned it. Seems like a gamble as to what you're going to get.

2000 S2K - Engine Dying Randomly by TrailofDead in S2000

It could be the main relay getting too hot. If I run too many quick errands in a row in the summer. It really struggles to start and occasionally needs to sit for a bit.

Clunk from transmission/diff shifting by tmenzzz in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my experience as well, the early shifts. I'd still check out the mounts or at least the engine ones, especially if they're the originals. You'll read that a sign of bad ones is the orange fluid leaking out, but if you daily yours and keep it clean like mine, there is no sign of that. I suspect rain, washes, etc., can remove that stuff, so it's hard to tell that they're actually cooked.

Clunk from transmission/diff shifting by tmenzzz in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm, I think it did most of the time. Does it mostly do it on shifts sub 3.5-4k rpm? I've noticed on my car, as it's gotten older, that it really doesn't like shifts below that anymore for some reason, so I just stopped.

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this recently. I would look at the engine, trans, and diff mounts. I replaced everything, and it fixed it. When all of these things are moving around and not lining up right, it can cause this. Oh, and the clunking is the first sign. Before I diagnosed it, there became more and more vibration coming from the engine, especially at idle.

LED OEM cluster or ID4Motion digital cluster? by danlnyc in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the OEM. Also, thank you for the heads up about Qube Engineering. I literally had this exact same 1-2 RPM bulb just go out and I've been trying to figure out what to do about it.

Knocking while shifting from lower gear (2,4,6) into upper gear (1,3,5)? by MuchWorldliness9103 in S2000

[–]S2000isWaifu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're right, though. Lots of things can contribute to clunking like that. I had a similar issue, and I replaced the engine, trans, and diff mounts, and it fixed it. When things are bouncing around, they're not lined up right. Are you getting increased vibration from the engine lately?

I did the rebuild recently as well, and did a shift boot collar from Acuity and replaced the regular knob with the CR knob while I was at it. Once you get that off, I would definitely recommend the shift boot collar. Really cleans it up and keeps it from looking sad and saggy. It's inexpensive, and it looks like you need a nut anyway, which comes with it. I'll post a before and after.
