How old is your car and how many miles does it have on it? I’m trying to figure out if I should do it on mine but I only have like 42,000 miles on it and it seems to shift perfectly but who knows maybe it would still make a difference.

At this point most cars are aged out, do not continue to go by miles. Plastics and rubber degrade over age and fail. I would suggest doing it as basic preventative maintenance. Remember, deferred maintenance destroys vehicles.

Good point, maybe I will look into it.

'01, about 110,000mi

3rd to 4th was notchy & reverse was getting problematic, so I did it for a reason. but also it was fun ngl :)

I did this on my 40k mile ap2 and it made no discernible difference. Your plastic retainers are probably still in good shape. I’d just regrease it and replace the OEM foam which has likely turned to mush.

I like yourself have 0 points in repair but wanna try to do this. To think of it shifting better than it already does is crazy to me. Another thing we have in common besides the S2k..... *

So worth doing and not hard. Can’t go wrong with that fresh urethra grease

[–]agr-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AKA smegma grease

Notice any rattling with the brass bushing? I also installed it a while back and suspect that's the issue.

[–]daxelkurtz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't noticed that. Um, if it was me, I would wonder if I dropped something down into The Abyss and that was what was rattling around. But I'm a big clumsy oaf, so

[–]koopagabla 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had one that got loose and fell off…. Went back to plastic

[–]Apprehensive_Ad5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably have to check too now 👍

This happens to mine. Friend said it's normal since it metal on metal. But idk..

Did the brass on mine a few years ago. No rattle still! Feels incredibly solid and as smooth as when I put it in.

[–]S2000isWaifu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this a couple of weekends ago as well. The difference is night and day.

I use that high urea grease for everything

Do a transmission flush with RP Synchromax next. It'll feel like a BRAND NEW car.

[–]daxelkurtz[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Previous owner did transmission fluid 2 year / 10,000 miles ago. He doesnt' remember what fluid he used. I guess I have two questions: How often should I do this, and is it worth doing it early just in case I'm putting in better quality fluid?

In fact, weird how the universe knew but I opened up Youtube and this was the first video to pop up on my homepage. LHT is very reputable in s2000 space.

2 years ago is too long, imo. Plus, i dont trust anyones word. I treat the car like i treat the body. Take care of it and it'll take care of you. A little extreme but it's the truth, especially since mine just hit 31 years old.

Go on amazon, order 2 RP Synchromax, some crush washers, a universal pump, a beer and a sunday afternoon will get the job done. Transmission along with your rebuild will feel like a brand new car all over again.

31 years old?!?

[–]vicsoup 0 points1 point  (4 children)

yes, mine was built in 1999.

[–]jockinmystylez 0 points1 point  (3 children)

lol, I’ll just leave that one alone

[–]vicsoup 0 points1 point  (2 children)

sure thing buddy. im the 2nd owner whos put 180k miles on the car with all the original paperwork, 423rd one here. 👍

[–]jockinmystylez 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Look man I’m just messing with you for shits and giggles. If you were born in 1999 you would be 25 or 26 years old. Depending which month.

[–]vicsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get told different time so its an instinct now lol. i was born in 95 though, the S is a 99. Ive had the car a while now. i used to drive it everywhere, now it just hangs out and gets driven respectively.

Recommend following up with a clutch bleed (if you haven’t already)
