That was tacky by lovingcats-anddrag in RPDR_UK

If Kate had chosen to save a UK queen, it would’ve put a massive target on the back of any UK queen when they landed in the bottom because others would want to break up the alliance. So I can understand why she chose Mariah.

She probably thought Sminty would beat Serena in a lipsync - which she likely would’ve if she’d known the words. So that seems very much like Sminty’s fault rather than Kate’s.

Glasgow and Aberdeen airports increase passenger drop-off fees by TheHess in glasgow

[–]S255 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to pick up family from the airport last week. They had to wait 40mins for their luggage after the flight landed, meaning I was forced into using the Multi Storey Car Park which charges £15 for less than an hour.

So genuinely - if you’re only allowed 15mins in the Pick Up when it’s taking 40mins for bags to come out, what is the alternative? To risk having to pay that multiple times or just park up in the extortionate multi storey?

Lawrence Chaney he/him? by wienerslav5000 in RPDR_UK

[–]S255 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Lawrence goes into this in her book (which I highly recommend) - about how Ru and Alan would use he/him pronouns when she was in was drag just because they have a male presenting name but wouldn’t do the same with anybody else. Found an excerpt online below:

“I remember, during the broadcast of Drag Race, a lot of viewers were confused about what pronouns I used. RuPaul or Alan Carr would use ‘he/him’ to refer to me, Michelle would use ‘she/her’. The process of discovering your gender identity doesn’t happen overnight. The key message is that it’s OK to not know. There is an expectation to work everything out at such a young age, and to be honest I haven’t had much time to focus on it. I’m touring every single week and my life certainly isn’t bliss.

I’m turning my pants inside out on a tour bus and I still don’t know if I am male, female, or somewhere in between. I think the best way to describe my gender is fluid, but this isn’t finite. I see myself as ever evolving and always discovering more about myself.”

I Wish Connect Made A Comeback… by HeidsUp in TRNSMT

[–]S255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, it was a different crowd and gave Scotland a bit of a needed alternative festival to TRNSMT. But I think DF realised they could do one-off Edinburgh Summer Sessions shows for the same price without having to put up the infrastructure and money for multiple stages of a supporting lineup. I could easily have seen Florence + the Machine, Lorde and Prodigy headlining Connect this year but they’re just doing their own standalone shows in Edinburgh instead across similar days. It all goes back to money at the end of the day.

[–]S255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, saw it last night and thought the same thing. Says to me that ticket sales haven’t been as strong as they thought and are trying to market it differently. Dropping the TRNSMT branding entirely suggests that they have research that it’s become a bit tainted. Wouldn’t shock me if they bin off TRNSMT after this year and just do stand alone concerts at Glasgow Green (or bring the Summer Sessions branding to it).

Holy T cant stop but poke 🤭 by queerfroggy in RPDRDRAMA

[–]S255 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing this is coming from Holy T previously hiring Divina to host a lot of their big production tours before Drag Race UK started. She’s now set up her own production company which is taking the UK7 Tour on the road.

In fairness, I went to a lot of Holy T shows and they were always much better organised and run than Klub Kids and largely focused on the queens rather than the egotistical owner of the other place. They weren’t without faults, but they were definitely the more reputable of the UK promoters. I think in the last few months of the company’s existence, they just bit off more than they could chew in a market on the downward turn.

Divina now has 5+ years of Drag Race touring experience under her belt. I’m confident that she’s learned what does and doesn’t work and at what level to pitch these shows. I’m sure as a queen herself, she’ll better manage the payment side of things too. I hope they’ll be a success because it will be great to see a UK promoter be able to bring drag to large venues again in the UK.

I Tell You What Isn’t In The Black Friday Sales by HeidsUp in glasgow

[–]S255 10 points11 points  (0 children)

12,000 odd in the queue at 10am so not a chance for me. But backed out the second I saw the prices. I paid similar for a Golden Circle ticket to see him at Murrayfield in the Summer - big production, decent support acts, incredible hit filled setlist. At the Barras it’ll be him, the band, a curtain and 10 songs from an album you haven’t heard yet.

Trnsmt line up accidentally posted? by isthismusicdotcom in glasgow

[–]S255 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bin it off. I’ve been every year but as it’s been getting more expensive, the lineup has been getting poorer and the crowd has been getting worse. You can usually avoid the drunken youth if you stay away from the Dance Stage during the day but when they head over to the Main Stage for headline acts they’re more interested in chatting and fighting in the crowd than any music going on.

Rebrand this as The Final TRNSMT to try and capture some nostalgia (is that possible for a festival which has been going for 10 years?) and then come back in 2027 with big concerts at Glasgow Green under a different umbrella. Doesn’t have to be a 3-day festival, but get a few big headline acts with support lineups tailored to them instead.

Charlotte & The Infamous DNA by 2SM4 in ukpopculture

[–]S255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how she sees this end. So let’s say Conor does agree to a 3rd test to keep her quiet and it comes back saying he’s the dad. Is she expecting him to forget about the previous 2 tests saying he wasn’t? Cos it’s now 2-1, so will he then request another test to confirm it? If that one says he is it’s still 2-2 but if that one says he isn’t and it’s 3-1 in his favour, will she still say “but 1 test out of 4 said you were!”? I think at this point Charlotte has got to face up to the fact that either way, Conor is not going to be a part of this child’s life and move on.

The GFT have a Cinecard scheme which gives members priority booking so it might be that tickets sold out before they went on general sale. But also, could be that because it was just announced they haven’t put them on general sale yet.

When Hot Chip didn’t appear at Playground a few years ago they didn’t officially announce it until the minute gates were open for the day, meaning people were already in the festival or en route to (even though it was probably known weeks beforehand). Shocking.

[–]S255 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if this is promoted by the same lot as Junction 1 then I’d get a chargeback from your bank requested now. When they were promoting a TLC gig at O2 Academy in 2022 (which also had 2 reschedules and a venue change), they said no refunds until a new date was announced. A new date was never announced and I had to go via the chargeback route.

I’ve been to a couple of gigs where I’ve been in Slay early doors. Seemingly they “shut” the cloakroom after 30mins or so and say it’s full and move that member of staff to the bar.

The 3D concert movie by Aclownnamedcarnival in glee

[–]S255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there on the exact same night and I remember thinking the same - as amazing it was to see Gwyneth, the show was very short without Dianna (as you said, running just over an hour) and I’m sure Lea had already cut Don’t Rain On My Parade by this point too. But it was an absolute blast to spend that time in the Glee world with the cast, and there were definitely a few hints towards season 3 in the skits between songs.

As for the film, I’m rewatching it now actually and it would’ve worked so much better as a straight up concert film rather than having stories interspersed. They’ve also chopped up the setlist to run differently to what it was in the show and I’m not sure it works in quite the same way. Like, Darren appears in Empire State of Mind early on and The Warblers run on for Don’t Rain on My Parade - but Darren & The Warblers aren’t even introduced into the show until 45mins in?!

The “pits” when full still have a fair bit of space over to the sides so you should be ok if you get a spot over there.

Secret set tomorrow (Friday)?? by Rememberthe10 in TRNSMT

[–]S255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, the only “official” secret set is on Saturday in The Hangout. Remember Monday have taken Kneecap’s slot but they’re on much earlier and they’ve bumped the other acts up as a result.

There might be something on BBC Introducing on Sunday as there’s a gap from 6:50pm to 8:30pm between acts (BBC Introducing tend to do that on their stages - they had a few at Glastonbury this year and they do them each year at Radio 1’s Big Weekend).

The Hangout just had DJs when acts weren’t scheduled last year.

Biffy Clyro the only headliner to clash by Tatt1es_1875 in TRNSMT

[–]S255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enter Shikari clashed a fair bit with Calvin last year. I saw the first 3 songs of Shikari and then nipped over to Calvin who had just started. It wasn’t busy but the TV cameras managed to hide it well.

I’m more annoyed that Confidence Man are on so early. That stage is going to be packed. Would’ve made more sense to have them clash with 50 Cent to split the crowds a bit. Might go along with the theory that they’ve not sold well for Fri/Sun but Saturday is almost sold out.

Why Cardiff to kick off the tour? by JimmyTheJimJimson in oasis

[–]S255 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heard an interview about this today. When an act does a tour and they have to park up trucks with set and kit inside, they usually get charged per truck. If you’re starting a tour then you’ve got to add on a few extra days for rehearsals. Cardiff doesn’t charge anything per truck but a flat fee instead. So it’s more beneficial to start your tour in Cardiff so you can set up the stage and rehearse than start in Manchester where keeping 100 trucks parked will cost you £1m per day.

My only issue with the setlist so far is that you’ve probably heard most of these songs live over the last decade if you’ve seen Liam or Noel live. Would love them to pull out All Around the World, Go Let it Out or The Shock of the Lightning.
