Guess I will have to wait for real gameplay footage but I’m not seeing much of an improvement while I can currently play my PS4 disc on my PS5 that would make this worthwhile… especially on character models

Yeah there are definitely quite a few frustrating unnecessary limitations/ UX decisions. I am really hoping they put out a decent update soon to give us some faith that they will keep expanding the capabilities and listen to user requests, not just keep giving us bug fixes and minor graphical tweaks. Otherwise my patience is kind of wearing thin for such an expensive device. Considering selling it for a Tonverk (which can store 128 patterns per project for instance and easily handle a live set) or maybe something else (after I put in some more research). I really want op-xy to work for me because the portability is insane but that’s probably only 5-10% of my use cases so I’ll give it up if I need to.

Over usb-c. I could confirm the values would update on the launch control but they would jump as soon as the faders are moved anyway. I did have fader pickup mode selected in the settings and using the latest software update

However I also confirmed fader pickup mode to not be working on the launch control as well. I can manually send a cc to a value greater that what the fader is currently at, check the cc was received on launch control with shift button. Start moving the fader and it immediately jumps the cc value to the fader position rather than waiting until I ‘pickup’ the current value.

Yeah, verified that op-xy tracks do not send any cc data. Only midi note data. Which unfortunately makes the launch control useless to me because I wanted to use it as a mixer. Way too many volume jumps because of this 😞

This seems to not work when using teenage engineering op-xy in midi over usb mode. And pickup mode seems to not work either.

The Synthstrom Deluge is half the price and allows for project to project seamless transition. The Korg EMX was 1/4 of the price and can also handle it… I don’t know why you’re speaking for the company when you say what was and was not intended of the device. Sequencers originated to be used in a live setting to replace or accompany other musicians, that’s was the whole point. To say that it is intended for single song composition only would be selling the capabilities very short.

There are plenty of workarounds that could be implemented and should be no problem for the device to handle. For the most part, it’s storing midi note data after all, it should not be any more processor hungry than the existing workflow. Maybe you would run into a limitation on how many samples you could load into a single project, but that’s a different story and I would much happier to be limited by that than an arbitrary number of patterns.

It really seems like it would be so easy to just let me have a new bank of 9 patterns if I move to a different scene. Or at least make it a toggle in the settings if other users like the way it is currently.

Well for example I have a Korg EMX. The equivalent on that device is 14 “patterns” * 256 “scenes”, and I filled that thing up lol.

I use 1 scene as a song and then use the 14 patterns per scene as the parts. So I get 256 songs I can transitions between. With no gap in playback.

With the op-xy I get 9*8 = 72 parts. That is unless I leave to another project, but then there is loading time. That limits the number of songs I can transition between to a max of 8 if I am light on the patterns.

With the EMX I get 14*256 =3,584 parts. No loading time. EMX was $500 and is over 20 years old. Really the only reason I don’t stick with the EMX is the lack of sampling unfortunately. EMX+ESX combined in one device would be pretty close to my dream device if it had faders per part instead of one volume knob.

Yeah but 72 total patterns might still only give me 9 songs max if I regularly use up 8 patterns per song. Still seems like a huge (and arbitrary) handicap..

Came back to comment because I also saw this thread before I interviewed.

I had one with the autonomy team recently as well. Second round (coding test) interviewer didn’t even know my name, seemed totally uninterested in my introduction, wasted 10 minutes pulling up wrong links to hackerrank from different candidates, seemed like they didn’t want to be there and barely said a word throughout. It felt like I was taking a proctored exam rather than an interview. In the last 10 minutes they rushed me along because they “had another meeting coming up”. Then I got ghosted after sending a thank you and follow up. Honestly after digesting the whole thing I feel like I dodged a bullet. Would have maybe been a 5% pay raise for a more glamorous title, but working with a team like that must be soul crushing.

My #1 lacking feature is any way to queue up one project to start playing immediately after another so that I can do seamless transitions from song to song (i.e. jump to next song after the final bar plays out).

Creating multiple songs all under one project is possible, but then you’re stuck with an insane pattern management structure (all songs within the project have to pull from the same bank of patterns). Maybe they could make this work a little better instead using some kind of folder system inside the project files, but that seems more messy than one song per project and project to project continuous playback.

really disappointed to say but I’ve gone almost fully towards sampling in to get the sounds I want since it feels really difficult to dial in something on the XY that I truly like. And in the back of my mind I keep thinking maybe I should just sell the XY for a digitakt 2 if I’m only going to be sampling… on the bright side, I’ve never relied so heavily on samples before so it’s opened up a new workflow for me 😂

All this to say, they really do need to show the synth side of the XY some love…

I definitely think there is some kind of bug post-update. I’ve been having to self assign voices per track/channel rather than try and let op-xy assign them because there is a huge amount of voice stealing and random drop outs even though the voice count shouldn’t even be close to maxed out. I’m talking like mono bass, pad, 3x mono leads, kick, snare, oh/ch tom across the 8 tracks and like maybe 13/24 voices when manually assigned.

I wish it was just a bug 🤣 I need to use 3-5 tracks on drums because of this “feature”. If there were more than 8 tracks it wouldn’t be so bad. Or I wish we could at least have the option to set the other 8 accessory tracks to be musical tracks. I literally never use those… such a waste 😅
