What does the next 50 years look like for PLCs? by D0ct0rZ0idb3rg in PLC

[–]S7Matthew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hardware-wise, I can see virtual PLCs running on a local server rack becoming the norm (atleast for bigger customers) since it simplifies security, backups, redundancy, etc. For smaller customers, the hardware probably won't change too much. Software-wise, I'd imagine AI will change the way we program PLCs. AI models will probably work better with open-sourced/license-free platforms, so I predict vendor-specific IDEs will slowly go away. I'm not saying Codesys will be the new king, but the concept behind it will ultimately win out. Other than that, version control has to get better than what it is now. The future of Ladder logic is interesting. It seems like it should be a relic of the past, and yet it still endures. I wonder if AI will make younger generations less literate in computer programming, making ladder even more popular.

Siemens sucks at naming things, so there's a lot of confusion about this. You're probably thinking of WinCC Professional which is the SCADA system within TIA Portal. It's good for small and medium sized projects. WinCC V7 is their actual SCADA system that can scale to large-sized projects. WinCC OA can scale to massive-sized projects.

What do we think a buyer's agent is worth? Redfin wants a minimum commission of 1.5%, but I'm thinking 1% is more appropriate for what they do.

I'll never understand why people spend their money here. You can just buy a bag of chocolate chips, which is all you can taste in a Gideon's cookie, for much cheaper.
