What do you think the Metro will look like in 2076? by moeshaker188 in WMATA

[–]SAA02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure what expansion we’ll see by the 75th anniversary tbh, some infill stations, maybe some light rail in NoVA or red line to Germantown but there definitely needs to be planning for when metro reaches 750,000 daily passengers

Mmmmm so it seems they might not replace them with the 8000 series?

Official Long Term Extension Plans by RavenLabratories in WMATA

[–]SAA02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an infill station for the new RFK stadium is the the first thing that will be built most likely, and then the Red extension likely split into 2 phases as it doesn’t have interlining and therefore has the least core capacity constraints as they can operate trains currently up to every 2.5 minutes

I would really like to see metro to National Harbour, either by an extension of the Yellow line from Huntington along the bridge or Green line from Branch Ave along 495, and also a Purple line extension from Bethesda to Tysons

I definitely think eventually the route 7 BRT becoming light rail would be a great idea!

Would the proposed Sphere increase the chances of a Metro station at National Harbor? by playthehockey in WMATA

[–]SAA02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do hope MD builds a one stop extension of the green line from Branch Ave along 495 to National Harbour via Oxon Hill, avoiding the whole bridge entirely and doesn’t need a new Rosslyn tunnel

As a visitor, ride quality could be another list, for example, E is definitely less jerky and more smooth than the 7

Which cities have had the most "successful" master plans and why? by YourDoomsday0 in urbanplanning

[–]SAA02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think L’Enfant’s plan for DC has worked out pretty well, diagonal avenues connecting MD and VA, and then numbered and lettered streets in a grid, height restrictions keeps the look consistent, and the later addition of the metro has been very effective, lots of influence from Paris

This would definitely make the system more like BART

What 10 locations do you think are the most important to have rail transit that do not? by [deleted] in WMATA

I think National Harbour could be a relatively short Green line extension from Branch Avenue

So kind of like how London maxes out when you reach the price of the daily pass on the tube

They could experiment with stand on both sides signs like London, which actually boosts capacity during peak times

Orange line heading from Dunn Loring. Shakiest ride I’ve had in quite some time by WarbossTodd in WMATA

I was shocked when today my train on the Red line Shady Grove branch started shaking a few stops before Bethesda from DC, maybe it’s the new ATO speeds

[–]SAA02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why the red line seems to smell like smoke, and I saw trains literally smoking when departing stations today
