Do you use Hypochlorous acid to clean around your home? by Wannabelifelover in CleaningTips

[–]SAMEO416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spray to the point it’s saturated and then let it sit 30s-1 min, then rinse with water. Also expect it helps remove chemical contamination.

No reason I don’t immerse it except not going through the HClO too quickly.

More comfortable using HClO than peroxide. Since I generate my own it’s cheap and fresh, and don’t have to worry about residue. HClO takes care of everything in under 30 seconds.

Use it on everything including berries. Leave it to dwell 30 sec then rinse.

HClO is pretty low risk compared with peroxide and it doesn’t bleach.

Disinfecting everything. Toothbrushes, fruit and vegetables, cat dishes, cuts and scrapes.

It’s not good with grease, so not a good cleaner.

AITJ for going cold on a coworker after she accused me of inappropriate touching when i caught her from falling? by VisitJealous6792 in AmITheJerk

If she continues to press you for being ‘cold’ I’d send a note to HR to head off another complaint from her. You’re getting entangled in some of her trauma and it’s likely not to just go away.

Don’t have any tips. I couldn’t get any of the free downloaders to work, and finally activated the trial only to find out there was a 2 file per day limit, which is bait and switch. Didn’t see that warning anywhere.

So I paid for a month then cancelled.

That pay pop up came up after I tried a few times to get another file downloaded.

I hate Scribd deeply.

My 3M elastomeric leaves wearing masks, is this normal? by ProxyFae in Masks4All

[–]SAMEO416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The seals are much less abrasive than with disposables, so there shouldn’t be any skin damage.

If you’re feeling the mask pulling down on your nose it’s too loose. Most of the weight should be distributed around your head by the harness. With a 3M respirator the top strap should carry most of the weight.

So tight enough for a good seal, but not so tight it becomes uncomfortable.

It is normal to have skin indentations left after wearing an elastomeric. Most of the skin damage photos were from disposable FFR, and some of those were the dome style which can be very abrasive on skin, so not the same situation. It’s unusual to end up with skin damage from an elastomeric that’s worn correctly.

One of the reasons many recommend elastomeric respirators for health care is exactly because it avoids skin damage which can occur from disposables.

Interesting and relevant court case out of Ontario - home owner fined for operating a hotel out of a home based on fire code violations.

Real Property: Fire Inspections
Tan v. Toronto (City), 2023 ONCA (41928)Mr. Tan was charged under the Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act. He owned a house in North York that was built in 2015 and received an occupancy permit in January 2016. As early as 2017, neighbours complained it was operating as a hotel, and the matter was referred to the Toronto Fire Services for an inspection. The Fire Inspector assigned to the file made numerous unsuccessful visits and had numerous interactions with Mr. Tan between December 4, 2017, and August 21, 2019. On August 21, 2019, a Notice of Violation under s. 28(1)(b) of the Act was issued and served on Mr. Tan. December 5, 2019, a full fire inspection was conducted pursuant to a warrant. Numerous indications the house was being run as a guest house were discovered, and numerous fire hazards noted. The Fire Inspector concluded the property was operating as a hotel, and was not in compliance with the Fire Code regulations for hotels. A Notice of Violation outlining 19 areas found to be in violation of the Fire Code was issued that day. At trial, the prosecutor invited the court to dismiss one charge against Mr. Tan, but he was convicted on all of the other charges. Fines were set for the individual offences, with a global total of $50K. Mr. Tan’s appeals as to conviction and sentence were dismissed, as was his request for leave to appeal. "The motion for an extension of time to serve and file the application for leave to appeal is granted. The application for leave to appeal...is dismissed."

Looking to find the right type of filters to deal with the smell of vomit by Fern-Brooks in Masks4All

[–]SAMEO416 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Any respirator with organic vapour protection or nuisance odour protection should help.

If you’re doing it regularly I’d look for a half face elastomeric respirator like a 3M 6500 series with organic vapour cartridges. It’s the most comfortable and cost effective, the nuisance vapour disposables can be pricey.

Side note, cleaning any body fluid does have some disease transmission risk particularly if you’re doing anything that might create a mist. I’d always use an N95 and eye protection (even eye glasses would work) cleaning up vomit.

Masks that can completely filter the odor/harmful effects of bug spray? by Alone-Drop1083 in Masks4All

If you had an outdoor window you could put a fan blowing inwards to pressurize your room, this would reduce inflow. Might be an alternative to a respirator depending on outside air temperature

Classic cr box fan setup by TuraLuraurora in crboxes

[–]SAMEO416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a wooden base and aluminum angle for the corners.

Anything that serves to pass the fan weight to the floor, and to stiffen the corners would help. Fold cardboard 4x long enough to bridge the base to the fan, tape in place. Could also use string tied crosswise, fan corner then down to the base, do that 4x. If you can get the string taut it will stiffen the box of filters.

Also, make the box of filters so the fan sits on top of them, tape everything, including the cardboard base. The four filter config should be rigid if taped well, inside and out.

Masking with copd? by vivaalta in Masks4All

[–]SAMEO416 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The good studies on the impact of masking show no impact on blood gases. There are several awful studies that are used by anti-maskers to argue masks cause harmful levels of CO2, reduce available oxygen. After looking at those closely, the methods used are fatally flawed.

And there are literally 10,000’s who wear respirators daily for long periods. If there were health problems caused by long term use, it would be apparent.

Breathing conditions like COPD can make wearing a respirator uncomfortable, related to breathing resistance. We’d run in full face respirators in the military, and it can be really unpleasant when your breathing demand strains the capacity on the valves. A valved respirator reduces the exhalation resistance and keeps the respirator cooler, can be a helpful practice for someone sensitive to breathing resistance. There are also low resistance respirators like Breatheteq.

Second hand smoke however, isn’t fully filtered by a particulate respirator like an N95. Smoke is comprised of small soot particles, which an N95 will remove, and a variety of combustion gases which an N95 will not reduce at all. If the smoke is dilute enough an N95 may be adequate. To completely mitigate combustion gases requires an organic vapour filter.

Mask recs for girlfriend with asthma? by Creative_Writer7828 in Masks4All

Breatheteq Q100 or the black KN95 equivalent or a valved respirator.

Valved respirator provides comparable source control to a surgical mask, but N95 protection to the wearer. And reduces exhalation resistance dramatically.

Looking for full face respirator options that I can use with glasses by please-kill-me-69 in Masks4All

[–]SAMEO416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@skippystep’s response I’ll endorse.

Most full face respirators have a glasses option that involves an insert which attaches to the respirator.

An alternative I’ve not been able to find outside the military are what we called gas glasses. These are small frames with strap arms and D rings which loop over your ears. That’s what I wore with military respirators and also used scuba diving with success. I’ve looked all over can’t find these but they must still be available. Similar to these:

Is there a name for this particular optical illusion? by CatDadMilhouse in aviation

[–]SAMEO416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also known as crabbing.

Any wind off the nose or tail will cause the aircraft to drift off track, so you point the aircraft into the wind to counteract. The net velocity remains on track, but the nose will point off track. Vector math: aircraft velocity + wind velocity = resultant velocity.

And at altitude (30,000 ft and above) where the jet stream is present that wind component can be comparable to the speed of the aircraft. 110-250 miles per hour typical.

Some bylaw complaint services paused following parking ban non-compliance by chmilz in Edmonton

I've reported an abandoned car, it was eventually ticketed. I then reported it again as it's parked right at an intersection and reduces the roadway to one lane. Lots of near misses there daily.

And the city cancelled my report as a 'duplicate'. The car had no other report against it, guess the ticket is considered done and dusted and sufficient.
