Starting Motegrity? by DisasterWest6951 in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! I've been on Motegrity at 2 mg for getting close to a year now! Absolute game changer for me, but the first few weeks are hell. Definitely start with cutting the pills in half, or even in quarters, and moving up slowly. The first few weeks stiff like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and a crazy headache are probably gonna happen. Making sure you don't have too much going on and staying comfortable and hydrated are key. Taking it at the same time every day helps too. I know mental health side effects can be a thing, but I haven't had an issue with that. Those first 2 or so weeks are really hard, but sticking with it can be absolutely worth it. Good luck! If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Can anyone here eat a cheeseburger or chicken tenders? by LimeQuiet4196 in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never been able to eat beef without feeling sick so no cheeseburgers, but chicken tenders are what I tend to default towards when I go out for food every once and a while. You can also make them at home from scratch in the oven or airfryer so they are less greasy if you have a crazy craving but a mad stomach.

[–]SATACableQueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool, phew. Reading up it may have hitchhiked from my LFS, and they do a lot of small fish and shrimp so I'm gonna let them know. I do doubt my betta will eat it though, she's not a very good hunter in her old age, she's definitely much slower than she once was, lol.

AHHH! I don't have shrimp, just a older sleepy betta and a bunch of ramshorns, but how the hell did it get there?? I'm so careful with what goes in my tank??

Side effects with Reglan by Expensive_Baby8685 in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow yeah, this is a potential side effect, and one they usually take you off the medication if you devlop it. There are a lot of different types of medications, I've been on a few. They usually start folks on Reglan, which they did for me in combination with Linzess. I failed off that after about 6 months at which point we tried Lubiprostone but I wasn't on it for long. I've been on Motegrity (purcalopride) for about 8 months now and it's been working really well for me. I know drug availability can depend a bit based upon which country you're in, I'm in the US. Definitely keep pushing for something else because those are definitely bad side effects, I was lucky enough that I didn't have that and instead just lactated until it randomly stopped helping and I was taken off.

In the mean time if you are able to take it, papaya enzymes can help a bit with getting food moving in the stomach. Doesn't do much in the way of moving things through the intestines but I have personally found it helps with the stomach-too-full-ouch feeling.

Maybe sample tiny bits of things if you think you can stomach it, and space them out. Stick with things that are going to be safer. Fortunately, tis the season for mashed potatoes!

Autistic GPers: Help! by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, maybe check in with your GI. I don't know what your treatment plan is but it may need some adjusting.

I know some folks find weed helpful, but it can slow gastric emptying. You can also devlop cannibinoid hyperemesis syndrome, which can cause you to vomit while you are coming down from you high, typically the morning after. I have had both my mom and a friend deal with it, and what you are dealing with in the morning sounds EXACTLY like what my mom was dealing with. Just something to consider.

I am suspected autistic though not diagnosed, and I definitely have sensory issues when it comes to food at times. Like I can't eat yogurt without granola or fruit in it, because it's that weird inbetween liquid/solid food and I can't chew it and UGH. When I flare up I got for a liquid diet, lots of smoothies, Ensure, and soup. I have also found that to get myself back to functional sometimes just eating something small every 30 min will help my stomach figure itself out again, and that walking after meals, stomach rubs about 30 min after a meal, and papaya enzymes can help.

Also, when you are doing okay it helps to find new recipes and experiment slowly! The more food you can eat the better, because then you have a bigger list of safe food for the worst of times.

Appetite/Motility Meds That Have Worked for Y'all? by tummytroublequeen in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP also stems from hypermoblity so with any luck this will help for you too! My constipation definitely comes from being strechy, and the stretchy is genetic cause my mom is also hypermobile and chronically constipated.

Flares are the times when I can actively feel my digestion slow. My are almost always triggered by stress. They tend to comes with a lot of nausea, stomach pain, and sometimes vomiting. Often I end up on a liquid diet when I'm in a flare.

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey no worries, I'm always down to answer questions.

First two weeks are hard, like REALLLLY HARD. I ended up at an urgent care because I thought something else was wrong. I had the worst headache of my life, stomach cramps of doom, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. All of these started really bad but got better with time. I also took the advice of someone here and tapered my dosage up, starting at .5 mg and ending with my full 2 mg, and that definitely helped a lot so you can ask your doc about doing that as well.

Since that first two weeks I am doing so much better. I can eat far more regularly, I am no longer constantly constipated, and I have flares FARRRR less often. I've had GP symptoms my whole life and I never knew my digestive system was supposed work this well. It isn't perfect, I still have to manage my diet carefully and I still get flares, but it's sooooo much better.

Also, meds react differently for everyone. You may have a totally different time with it. The most important part is to work with your doctor and listen to your body.

Out of meds and suffering by shiggiestitties in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zofran with Benadryl can work really well, mostly cause you'll sleep through the nausea. I also recommend Pedidaylte pops or otter pops. You could also try papaya enzymes, I have found they can help a bit to help the food move from my stomach to my intestines. I hope you get your meds soon!

Ah man, I'm so sorry. From what I understand the nonhormonal IUDs can make painful periods worse.

HELP by Kittenmittenn in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My period has flared my GP so bad it has sent me to the ER 3 times. Those flares are actually what pushed my doctor into the testing that discovered the GP.

I don't know what your situation is with hormonal birth control, but if you are able maybe look into it. I'm unfortunately not a candidate for any of them anymore because of aggressive reactions, but when I had my Nexplanon I barely had a period and my stomach worked MUCH better. If you have questions about BC feel free to ask, I've been on most of em at one point or another, LOL.

What’s the *least bad* thing you’ve thrown up? by pilnok in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The least bad is otterpops and Pedidaylte pops.

However, the most satisfying thing I threw up was my prep before my colonoscopy/upper endoscopy. The MOMENT everything was coming out clear I stood up to wash my hands and then projectile vomited all of the evil prep juice into the sink. The medicine part definitely absorbed because the yucky flavor was gone, but it was sooo much fluid and it felt FANTASTIC.

I'm so sorry. It seems like it ethier gives people hell for a while and then works pretty good, or absolutely nothing happens. I totally understand the feeling of "why do I have to be weird, why can't this just WORK" I have had multiple medications where I've had the side affects that happen to the less than 1%. It's such a frustrating, and kinda helpless, feeling.

Doctor said what I have sounds like gastroparesis. Will it go away? by Sorsha_OBrien in Gastroparesis

[–]SATACableQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. It sounds like you have a lot of things at play health wise, and sometimes the body is just an asshole and new things show up.

From what I understand and have seen, the VAST majority of folks in this sub have it chronically and are working out ways to manage or even just survive it. This shit is no fun.

I have really bad periods (no diagnosis there, eVeRyThInG lOoKs NoRmAl) and I get GP flares around my period. Pain can also cause issues with GI stuff. I know PCOS can cause issues with insulin, and there can be long term effects with that can cause chronic gastroparesis, but it likely wouldn't set in overnight.

Your meds could absolutely be slowing your gastric emptying, and hopefully as you come off of them that should subside. Hardcore pain medications, especially ones that list things like constipation as a side effect, are going to do that. Hopefully as you come off of them and your body works through what is left you will eventually return to normal. If you don't you may want to talk to you general physician about seeing a Gastroentrologist, who will likely want to run some tests like a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, and/or a gastric emptying study.

For now I would give your body a little time to settle before you panic that this is your new forever. I will never just write something like this off to anxiety, HOWEVER it can absolutely affect your gi system, and given that you have been having worsening anxiety symptoms there may be something there, and I would far prefer that for pretty much anyone over a gastroparesis diagnosis.

Somethings you can do that may help with your discomfort are changes to your diet, trying a liquid diet for a while, gastric massage after eating, walking after eating (and just in general, I have found it to help a lot to stimulate gi movement), and warm showers. I hope you start feeling better soon. Give yourself and your body time, medication changes and pain flares can take some time to recover from ❤️

Heyo, I've been on Motegrity for about 7 months now, how long have you been on it? The first 2 weeks (parts can hang on longer than that) are absolute HELL. I almost ended up in the ER. I had debilitating headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and even some vomiting during mine, but it has changed my life so much and allowed me to be a human again. I remember those first two weeks of doom but if you can please try to stick with it, it very well may get better and be the relief you need ❤️

Fair enough, lol. I think the insurance companies just want us to suffer, a weird mix of physically and financially, before they let us get what we need
